Fantastic place to stay, convenient location

June 2023 - Villa Gisella A is a fantastic place to stay, and the large private terrace has amazing views. The house is well equipped and very comfortable.

It is convenient for bars and restaurants in Praiano. There are shops nearby, so it is easy to pick up groceries. Praiano is a beautiful town, relaxed and quiet compared to some other places on the Amalfi Coast!

We have stayed in Villa Gisella A three times in the past 15 years, and we will be returning again!

Thank you very much to Adriana [the owner] and her family for making our stay so comfortable and relaxing!

Excellent communications and service from Summer In Italy.

Comfortable and super clean, with unforgettable view

June 2023 - Villa Gisella A is a perfect property to us. The view on the terrace is unforgettable, it overlook the sea with Positano in view. We have breakfast every morning and watch all the yachts sails by. In side the house, it is very comfortable and super clean.

Adriana [the owner] stocks everything you can think of from pots and pans for you to become a gourmet cook, and enough dishes for you to throw a party! Adriana is a very kind and a welcoming host. The airline lost me luggage for two days. Adriana helped me to make contact, she even went out of her way to drove to Positano and pick up my luggage. WE are thankful for her help.

I would have no hesitation to recommend Villa Gisella A to anyone who want to come and visit the Amalfi Coast. Just to mention to get to the villa it is 90 steps up. It can not be avoided but it is worth it, after all Amalfi Coast is build on cliffs!!

Travel tips

  • Praiano is a perfect place to stay. It is a small town situated in between Positano and Amalfi. The bus stop is only 5 min walk and the ride is only 15 min to either town. We even took a bus to Sorrento. Even if Praiano is a small town, it has many many excellent restaurants with reasonable price compare to the crowded Positano. A flower shop, a pharmacy and even a fish stall carried fresh catch fishes and shrimps that open everyday till 1 o'clock. It also have a nice coffee that carries bakery needs.

What an amazing stay we had! We are already talking about coming back :)

May 2023 - Don’t let the 90 steps up intimidate you, they’re not bad at all and you get to enjoy the view every step of the way.

Beautiful and huge succulent plants and lemon trees all around you. The house is very private with a huge patio and wonderful views of Praiano and Positano. We never tired of the view, perfect setting to relax at night with a glass of wine. The place had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable with plenty of room for our clothes; kitchen is well stocked (great quality pans) and every type of glass you could possibly need. The place is spotless! Every corner of it!

Hostess Adriana and her daughter Michela were most gracious and helpful! They greeted us with a bowl of fresh fruit from the garden, snacks and Prosecco. Mid week, Adriana lowered a basket from her patio to ours with a delicious pie, flowers and some limoncello for our anniversary. What a sweetheart! Both of them so sweet and helpful. Their English is limited (and so was our Italian) but again there’s always Google translator.

We enjoyed our stay at Villa Gisella A immensely (despite some rainy days) and by the way, the patio is covered. The location is perfect, close enough to other Amalfi coastal towns without the business and the large tourist crowds. You are a 5 minute walk to great restaurants, bars, and shops, and beautiful Church of San Gennaro. What an amazing stay we had! We are already talking about coming back :)

Excellent

May 2023 - This property is exactly as the photos show. There is a large balcony from which to enjoy beautiful views of Positano without the hustle and bustle of staying in Positano itself.

The property was clean and very comfortable; kitchen was well equipped and we particularly appreciated the welcome package of Prosecco, fruit and snacks. The bedroom and sitting room were comfortable and our hostess Adriana was very willing to help out with anything that we needed. Adriana has an ingenious freight elevator to get your luggage to your room.

There are steps to reach the property from the main road, but this is par for the course on the Amalfi Coast. We were able to get around by the SITA bus and the local grocery stores were within walking distance for all essentials. There are 2 restaurants close by: “La Dolce Vista” and “La cucina del Tramonto d'oro” both of which had excellent food, great service and stunning views of the Mediterranean and neighbouring Positano. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect location, unmatched views

September 2022 - We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Gisella A. The views of Positano and the sea are unmatched. The location was perfect for beach club, restaurants, groceries, etc. The villa has everything one would want or need and is impeccably kept.

If you enjoy walking and hiking, you can also walk to the eastern side of the town. We walked to Restaurant Il Pirata and spent an afternoon at the beach club there.

Nothing but great things to say about the villa.

Summer In Italy provided outstanding service. Very responsive and property was impeccable.

Staying here was fantastic

July 2022 - The terrace and view were amazing. Inside was very comfortable and clean with everything you need provided.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. She had left us home made jam and fruit - one evening she gave us a homemade cake and a bottle of cold limoncello - delicious!

Summer In Italy was also absolutely fantastic - responding very quickly and helpfully to our questions. We will definitely use them again if we return to Italy. Keep doing what you are doing!

Travel tips

  • There are shops nearby where you can get everything you need.
  • The bus system is very good - and cheap. But beware if you get travel sick!

October 2021 - Where do I begin to describe such a wonderful place? I would soon run out of superlatives! The property is perfectly located, very well stocked with everything you could possibly need, spotless clean, the views on Positano and the sea are just stunning.

But absolutely outstanding is Adriana [the owner]. She is such a loving and caring person, a really "superhost"! She thought of really EVERYTHING she could do to make our stay memorable.

The only problem we had was leaving... We hope to be back one day at this magical place.

Everything perfect with Summer In Italy. Very well run!

Excellent rental with sublime view

July 2020 - The apartment is very well located near shops, restaurants and bus stop, at the bottom of the Path of the Gods. You have to climb steps, the suitcases follow the goods lift, to arrive on a magnificent shaded terrace with a sublime view from Positano to Capri.

We were very well welcomed, the apartment is clean and well equipped, we highly recommend this rental!

Amazing vacation rental

October 2019 - Most amazing view of the coast from our private terrace!!

The host family members were just wonderful! Their English language is limited (but far more than our Italian) so it took longer to communicate but they were very caring and made sure we were comfortable with our stay, connected us to a great private boat tour company to Capri, and made the celebration of my mother’s 70th birthday there so special.

We were also able to hike the Path of the Gods from this property by going upwards. It was a long way up with lots of climbing (and a few times lost) but we eventually found our way and enjoyed the hike tremendously. It took us 5+ hours but even my 70 years old mother made it and loved it!

This is the best vacation rental we’ve ever stayed due to the amazing view and hosts!!

A superb apartment in a great location

October 2019 - A superb apartment in a great location. It was very clean and well equipped. The shower worked well and the beds were comfortable. There is a very well equipped kitchen and good food can be brought in the village shops. The view over the Amalfi peninsula is fantastic, particularly in the evening as the sun sets.

The owner is very friendly and helpful and lives further up the hill if you need anything.

We had a great time exploring the Amalfi Coast and would recommend it to anyone.

The booking process was very straight forward.

Travel tips

  • The SITA buses are the best way to get around the Amalfi Coast. Don't hire a car there are very few parking spaces along the whole coast and the busses are more fun.
  • Be aware that the traffic around Naples is bad, so allow extra time to get to the airport.
  • The food in Che Bontà is very good.
  • We enjoyed walking the "Path of the Gods", up to Ravello and Anacapri.
  • Swimming is good at the Marina di Praia Beach.

We had a brilliant time. The property was well equipped and we had everything we needed for our stay

May 2019 - We had a brilliant time. The property was well equipped and we had everything we needed for our stay. It was spotlessly clean and a pleasure to stay there. We highly recommend it.

We found the location on the coast perfect for exploring as we were roughly in the middle of the sites we wanted to see.

The owners were extremely kind and very understanding about our late arrival and early departure (due to flight times).

I have to say that Summer in Italy were excellent in the way they dealt with us for our holiday. Whenever I needed to ask a question they were quick to reply and extremely helpful. If I returned to Italy they would be the first company I would look at.

Travel tips

  • Even in low season there were huge queues for the local buses, so make sure you always have extra time planned in case you can't squeeze on to the bus you were hoping to get.
  • Don't even attempt to go up Mount Vesuvius if there is any cloud about - we did - climbed all the way up and couldn't see a thing, an expensive mistake.
  • Watch out for people trying to sell you 'skip the queue' tickets at Pompeii, check to see if the queues are long first otherwise you will pay extra for no reason.
  • Be aware that if you stay at Villa Gisella there are 93 steps up to the apartment from the road to be climbed after a long day of site-seeing.
  • Great bar on the way down to the Gavitella Beach at Praiano - but 272 steps up to road before the ones to the apartment!
  • If you need to take a taxi to/from the airport, remember to budget Eur 150 each way for this and it takes about 2 hours because of the traffic.

The apartment is comfortable and has everything you need

October 2018 - I LOVED staying at Villa Gisella A! The apartment is comfortable and has everything you need. But the terrace and the view is what makes this place spectacular!

There are 90 steps to climb from the road to reach the property. But you are only going to do that once or twice a day! The shower stall is a tad small but there's plenty of hot water and water pressure. I would definitely stay here again if opportunity presents itself.

The owner Adriana was wonderful!

You were very helpful and I appreciate all the information you sent, especially with the transportation. Thank you very much, you were great to work with.

Travel tips

  • The nearby grocery store is excellent.
  • We found plenty of excellent restaurants.
  • The property is located near the SITA bus stop. It's very easy to catch the bus to Positano, Sorrento or Amalfi, and pretty cheap.
  • A couple of nearby stores sell bus tickets.
  • The house is on the western edge of town so it's about a 30 minute walk to the Marina di Praia Beach.
  • I would recommend taking a boat excursion along the coast. There's one that will pick you up at the Marina di Praia Beach.

Very good

August 2018 - Very clean, nice and spacious apartment with two big bedrooms and an amazingly beautiful view of the Amalfi Coast. Breathtaking!

We could park our rental car in the owner’s garage, reachable in a 10 min walk. We stayed 6 days and did everything by bus because parking your car in the area is almost impossible.

Summer In Italy provided all the information we need.

Travel tips

  • There are enough restaurants in the area with beautiful terraces overlooking the sea.
  • There are two small grocery stores in walking distance. Also a nice bar where you can have a simple breakfast or coffee and in the evening a drink.
  • There is a tourist office in Praiano.
  • We booked a nice full day boat trip to Capri.
  • If you are in a good shape, walk the Path of the Gods, the scenery and views are very beautiful.

Enjoyed Villa Gisella A immensely

June 2018 - Enjoyed Villa Gisella A immensely. The kitchen was very well equipped for anything you might want to make. The bathroom is just standard but fine. The bed was not as hard as we were warned but that is the normal style. Air conditioning and Wi-Fi were very good and, of course, it's a million dollar view. We ate outside every day on the nice terrace. Even the buses honking around the curve below fades when enjoying that view. Of course it stops at night so no problem sleeping!

Everything worked and we were given some fresh eggs and fruit by the owners, which was a nice gesture.

Summer In Italy service is great.

Travel tips

  • It is so well located that a great deal is quite nearby and if one wants to go to the Marina di Praia Beach (recommended), you get the bus (there are a few that stop there) and the stop is less than 50 meters from the house.
  • One Fire Beach at the Gavitella Beach in Praiano is below after many steps (maybe 300).
  • Restaurant La Strada is a very good consistent restaurant a few meters away and Restaurant Voce e' Notte on the roof of a hotel is also quite good for cocktails.
  • The steps to the apartment are approximately 90 so be aware. They do have a cable lift for the bags so that makes it a lot easier.

Our stay at Villa Gisella A was fabulous!

May 2018 - Our stay at Villa Gisella A was fabulous! I honestly cannot say enough good things about the apartment. The space was more than adequate, the furnishings functional and the location fantastic. If you are reading this review wondering if you should book this apartment, stop and go book it!

We were two couples traveling together and stayed nine nights in the apartment. We found everything we needed here, more space than if we had taken hotel rooms, and enjoyed the amenities. We would book Villa Gisella A again if were were to return.

The apartment is three rooms and a bath. The two bedrooms are small and simple, but for sleeping and dressing were all we needed. Both bedrooms had french doors that opened onto the terrace and we slept at night with ours cracked open. There was a wardrobe and a dresser in each, and a nightstand on either side of the beds. There was adequate space to unpack and store all the clothes we brought, and enough hangers in the wardrobe. We had no issues sleeping due to the firmness of the bed.

The living/kitchen/dining area was small but sufficient. The kitchen had all the tools we needed; plates, mugs, bowls, all shapes of glasses and utensils, including several sharp knives and a cutting board. The dining table seated four, and while there were only three comfy chairs in the living room we pulled a fourth from the first bedroom when we sat inside.

Out on the terrace there is a dining table with four chairs, and also a set of outdoor seats for socializing under an overhanging roof so that even if it rains you can enjoy being outside. There were some folding lounge chairs that we did not use, and a collapsible clothes drying rack that we did. There is a divider on the deck separating the two apartments, but we rarely saw or heard anyone in the one bedroom unit.

The bathroom was small but functional. The shower is the weakest component, and the one aspect of coming home that I enjoyed most was washing my hair without having to tuck my elbows. That said, the bath was entirely functional and I have no complaints.

There is a utility wardrobe in the hallway to the bedrooms that held cleaning supplies, electrical adapters and other miscellaneous items like washing machine and dishwasher soap. We loaded the dishwasher every morning after breakfast, ran it while we were out for the day, and it was great to come home to clean dishes.

The location of the apartment was ideal. Yes there were approximately 90 steps to get up and down, but they got easier and easier. There is a bus stop right out the door, and it is a short walk down the street to the mini market. The house sits directly over the tunnel at the western end of Praiano, and while we could hear the occasional vehicle (or Sita bus horn), the sounds were unobtrusive and not bothersome in the slightest.

We had no issues on arrival, being greeted or getting to the apartment. The cable lift for sending the luggage up when we arrived and down when we departed was a godsend. The apartment was immaculately clean, and the hostess warm and gracious. The day we left she told me, "I love what I do," and it shows. My wife's birthday was halfway through our stay, and I told that to our hostess when we arrived. On the morning of her birthday the hostess came out on her deck above us and lowered a basket with a vase of fresh cut roses and a homemade tiramisu cake with a candle on top. My wife (who is half Italian) declared it to be the best tiramisu she had ever eaten, and I agree - incredible is insufficient to describe the taste. Thank you thank you thank you.

Summer In Italy was just exactly perfect. They were extremely responsive and quick to any and all of my inquiries. For example, the pictures for the apartment showed a king (double) bed in one room and two singles in the other, with a notation that the two singles could be made into a king (double). I requested that through an email and when we arrived it was done. The business end of dealing with Summer In Italy was completely professional. The payment schedule was appropriate, and after making the second payment we received a thorough letter explaining how to get to the apartment, what to expect, and some humorous notes on cultural differences. I had full confidence that everything would be correct before I arrived, and it was. I would both recommend Summer In Italy and use them again.

Travel tips

  • Restaurants: La Strada is the closest and has the best pizza. La Brace is the next closest and has excellent food as well. Kasai is a bit of a walk (try taking the steps up to Via Croce and then going across) but was also excellent. Da Armandino in Marina di Praia is a hike but well worth it.
  • We took the path that descends near the watch tower that wound along the edge of the sea and marveled at the scenery.
  • Bar del Sole has some pastries to go with your morning espresso or cappuccino, and delicious gelato for an afternoon snack.
  • Shops: the mini market near the main bus stop has most everything you need for a stay, and sells the local bus tickets to Positano. The ceramic shop next door also has some supplies not found in the mini market, like Kleenex tissues. The sita bus tickets are sold at the tabacchi shop.
  • Tourist office: this is well worth a visit, because the woman working there doesn't just dispense pamphlets and information but acts as a concierge. She made calls for us to book reservations for a boat tour to Capri and to a winery in Tramonti. She will make dinner reservations. She is an excellent resource and I highly encourage anyone to utilize her services.
  • A note on the bus stops. If you are going towards Amalfi buy your tickets the day before and wait at the bus stop below the apartment (#5). We got on there one morning, the bus was full and did not stop at the main bus stop (#7) for the 10 or 12 people waiting.

Wonderful place to stay when in the Amalfi Coast area!

October 2017 - Villa Gisella A is a wonderful place to stay when in the Amalfi Coast area! It is so peaceful and quiet and very close to the other towns along the coast. The terrace is amazing and the views are equally beautiful from the terrace. The living room is really part of the kitchen which really wasn't an issue overall for our stay but I note it just so future renters will be aware of it. It did not detract from the overall stay. The amenities in the apartment were excellent. I would highly recommend staying here over Positano and we would definitely stay here again.

The apartment is excellent and I don't have any improvement thoughts or suggestions. The owners were responsive and very friendly, they even provided us with fruit, lemon cake and Limoncello! So nice!

Summer In Italy was a great help! They were responsive to my questions and requests and provided very easy to understand directions and guidance on arriving at the apartment. I would definitely use them again and recommend them highly.

Travel tips

  • The bus stop is just a few feet away from the bottom of the steps coming down from the apartment making it very, very, easy to use the bus system. The ticket office is also very close by to the apartment.

You could not have asked for a more beautiful view

October 2017 - Villa Gisella A was a wonderful place to stay and use as a "home base" to explore the Amalfi Coast. Even though it was on the main road, it was surprisingly very quiet. You could not have asked for a more beautiful view as you get from the terrace. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

The owner even lowered a basket with fresh baked goods for us!!

Travel tips

The location is fantastic - amazing views

August 2017 - The location is fantastic - amazing views. Villa Gisella A is very clean, well equipped and has everything you need for a wonderful holiday.

Within walking distance of the shops and restaurants and great access to public transport. There are a lot of steps up to the property but nothing unusual for the Amalfi Coast. The walk down to the beach is via a series of steps and walk ways but the little pebble bay and the clear blue sea is well worth the effort.

The owner, who lives in the apartment above, was extremely helpful.

Great service. Lots of helpful information on the web site. Will definitely use Summer In Italy again and recommend to friends.

Travel tips

We loved our stay

May 2017 - We loved our stay at Villa Gisella A. The most spectacular thing about it is the unparalleled view from the terrace. This is the most understated feature of the property in the write-ups. From the terrace you can view the mountainside of the Monti Lattari chain, including an excellent view of hikers on the Path of the Gods. One can view the entire harbor of Positano, all of the boats, the beach, and the entire town which is absolutely gorgeous, especially when lit at night. Finally, the island of Capri is in plain view from the terrace, separated by water from the tailing coast.

We would recommend Villa Gisella A to anyone who prefers a realistic and authentic visit to the Amalfi Coast, its beautiful views and completely charming local people!

Had a wonderful time

April 2017 - My husband and I stayed for a week in April at Villa Gisella A and had a wonderful time. It's a lovely unique home. The entire house is faultlessly, spotlessly clean. We cooked most of our meals during our stay, and while the kitchen is small it is well-equipped, clearly the kitchen of a cook. Although the place is simple and basic, it is very homely and was really perfect for us. The terrace is just a joy and the views are fantastic from every room.

It's extremely well-located, with everything you need a short walk away. We loved shopping for our supplies every morning at the local alimentari and fishmongers, and going to Bar del Sole for a nightly aperitivo and people-watching. We intend to come back again, hopefully for a much longer stay!

The owners, Signora Adriana and her family, were extremely kind and caring; she even lowered a basket to us on Easter morning with a beautiful traditional Easter cake. Keep doing what you're doing!

Great web site, vetting of properties, communications and support! You really know your properties and hosts and that is key to your success. We would definitely book with Summer In Italy again, and will recommend you to our friends.

Stunning location!

August 2016 - We stayed at Villa Gisella A in Praiano on the Amalfi Coast for 1 week. I can say without hesitation it was the most beautifully stunning location I have ever stayed in. Situated on a height above the famous coast road, approximately 90 stairway steps... The reward for climbing these steps is well worth it. High mountainous cliffs at your back, the rugged splendor of the coastline stretching out in front, looking down at beautiful Positano and on out to the island of Capri. Looking down below at the super yachts moored in the bay. On the terraced climb up to the villa is a fruit and veg garden at every turn: lemons, figs, tomatoes. The apartment is spacious, very clean, and had everything we needed and more! There was a travel adapter plug, plug in mosquito repellent, dishwasher tablets, insect sprays and lots of other items we thought we would have to buy. There was even a pair of binoculars for viewing the coastline in more detail! During the day we explored up and down the coastline... Off to Pompeii and Vesuvius, Capri, Sorrento, etc but I was never more happier than sitting out on our terrace with a glass of wine or beer in the evening watching the sunset over the Amalfi Coast. I would have no hesitation in coming back here... Indeed, it is on my to-do list.

We were greeted with a bowl of fresh figs in the fridge, a bowl of supersized lemons, and a bowl of fresh eggs. On one of those evenings we had a surprise gift from the owner (who lives in the villa above). She lowered a basket down to us with a homemade cake, a bottle of homemade limoncello, and a bottle of homemade blueberry liqueur. The cake was delicious, the limoncello was rocket fuel! :) Touches like that help to make your stay even more memorable. Keep doing what you're doing.

I can't fault Summer In Italy. Their response to my enquiries was very fast and always helpful and pleasant.

Travel tips

  • So long as you've no problem climbing a few steps every day, you won't have a problem. If you are coming to the Amalfi Coast you must be prepared for lots of steps. The climb up to the villa was a bit of a workout but nothing that would put me off recommending this location to anyone other than people with restricted mobility... My 67 year old mother in law managed the climb twice a day every day!
  • Within a few minutes walk you have a shop with all the essentials, a pharmacy, some restaurants, cafes, souvenir store, tourist office, etc.
  • There are plenty of bus stops along the road to help you explore the coast in both directions (and the bus journey is an adventure in itself).

  • We were very glad that we decided to stay in Praiano as it is much quieter than Positano.
  • The bus stop is just 20 meters outside the property which makes travelling to Positano and Amalfi very easy as well as to the local beach.
  • Transportation very easy, with local buses and Sita buses (going to Positano and Amalfi). You can buy tickets on the local buses, but not on the Sita buses for whom you have to buy your tickets beforehand.
  • There are several restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance.
  • Loved the Restaurant Il Pirata.
  • Bring mosquito repellent as there are lots of mosquitos after dusk.

All the information that was sent to us was very helpful. Easy to email and very quick response.

Beyond my expectations!

June 2016 - Villa Gisella A and location were beyond my expectations! Perfectly located (few minutes walk to tourist information office, restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacy, bus stop, beach) stunning view on Positano and the coast, squeaky-clean and fully equipped, owner not only kind but also generous and caring, what else can you ask for? I strongly recommend Villa Gisella A!

Very proactive, professional and personalized service from Summer In Italy. I also enjoyed reading your tactfully humoristic voucher... I would recommend your agency to anybody, the best service I have ever had. Your approach made the difference, I felt secure and confident. No more research for Italy! ;)

Travel tips

  • Bus transportation: take a few minutes to understand the 3 bus lines (one for Praiano, one for Positano-Praiano and the Sita bus, which is often full by the way), ask for help to tourist information office if necessary. You can also take a boat from Positano to Amalfi, if you are tired to wait for the Sita bus.:)
  • Beach: 400 steps down Villa Gisella you have the most amazing beach and beach club (Gavitella Beach): take your time, your bottle of water and enjoy!
  • Avoid the trip to Capri, unless your main purpose is going for the boat ride: too crowded and frankly Praiano is more pretty!
  • Best pizza ever: Restaurant La Brace! Best pasta with vongole: Trattoria San Gennaro.

October 2015 - Villa Gisella A is an absolute gem on the Amalfi coast and offers breathtaking views of the ocean, Positano as well as the isle of Capri in the distance.

We were welcomed by the very friendly and helpful owner and she showed us around the property. The apartment was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. A lot of attention to detail. There were fresh lemons, eggs and a jar of homemade jam in the kitchen to welcome us. The one evening we were absolutely overwhelmed with surprise when the owner lowered a freshly baked cake in a basket onto our veranda.

What an amazing experience! I would definitely recommend Villa Gisella A to anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful stay on the Amalfi coast, away from the hustle and bustle of the more popular tourist villages.

We didn't want to come home!

Summer In Italy were very efficient, friendly and helpful. We would definitely use them again.

Travel tips

  • I would strongly recommend Che Bontà restaurant. We ate there on several occasions - good food, friendly staff and reasonably priced.
  • If you are planning a boat trip to Capri use Positano Boats, especially if Maurizio is your captain.
  • Also a visit to the lovely bar located half way up from the beach is a must. A cocktail as the sun is setting is bliss.
  • If you are going to Pompeii I would recommend getting the bus to Sorrento and taking the train from there. We went on a organised tour which took two hours to get there as we had to stop at several locations to pick up others. We then had a whistle stop tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

July 2015 - This was our 2nd stay at Villa Gisella A. Our first visit was for a month in 2013. This time we stayed for 3 weeks. We hope to return in 2017. We love it there.

While the bathroom is small and the work area of the kitchen is small, everything that you need is provided and in excellent working order. Never any complaints.

Because Praiano is not touristy as are Amalfi and Positano, you can enjoy a truly relaxing vacation at Villa Gisella A. Trips to Bar de Sole, the various alimentari, the fish monger or butcher, are part of the daily routine--the fun of being there. While there, it is easy for us to pretend we live there! Ninety steps--every one of them is worth it!

Adriana and her family [the owners] are very warm and gracious. They welcome us as family and continue to provide basket gifts of veggies, fruits and baked goods. She maintains a beautifully clean and efficient property.

We were very pleased with Summer In Italy for both visits to Villa Gisella A. I have recommended you to many of our friends.

Travel tips

  • There are plenty of good restaurants but our favorite restaurant is the terrace of Villa Gisella A! After that, Restaurant La Brace for excellent pizza, Restaurant Smeraldo has never failed us, Vivaro Wine Bar is a must.
  • We've driven there before, but parking is a bit of a challenge, and you really don't need a car.
  • Take the local bus for jaunts to Positano and the SITA to Amalfi and Sorrento.
  • If you want to splurge and are coming from Naples, heartily recommend Marius Limo Service for Eur 100.
  • A couple of days in Ravello is also nice.
  • If you like ice in your beverages, pack an ice tray.
  • Don't forget wash-cloths.

September 2014 - Villa Gisella A is an apartment with a wonderful large terrace to sit out and enjoy the fantastic view. I don't think I have ever seen such a clean apartment.

Although the owners live upstairs (which I don't usually like) they were lovely, giving us little gifts of food and fruit, but were not intrusive.

Only small downside was the famous Amalfi Coast road. We did get used to it but difficult to stop at the little towns as nowhere to park.

August 2014 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Gisella A!

The accommodation was very good and conveniently located close to markets, restaurants and bus transportation. The best part is it was quiet and peaceful but very close to more trafficked areas (Positano, Amalfi, etc.) that were just a short bus ride away.

August 2013 - We loved Casa Gisella A. It was perfect for our family of 3. The balcony and views could not be beat.

Adriana was the most gracious hostess. She brought us eggs, vegetables, and made us a cake for our birthday. She also loaned some of her grandson's toys to my son.

My only complaint (which is not even a complaint) is that the beach in walking distance is not kid-friendly so we had to take the bus everyday to the other beach or into the other towns. The stop is right there so it's not that big of a deal, just a slight annoyance given the buses don't run on much of a schedule and were really crowded.

Everything was perfect!

Travel tips

  • Praiano is pretty much a one street town so it's quiet and pretty sleepy. Everything was in walking distance and we were fine with this as we have a small child, but it's something you should know.
  • The restaurants are definitely cheaper (and better) than what you will find in Amalfi or Positano.
  • One Fire Beach is a cool scene, but not for small children.

July 2013 - We very much enjoyed our month's stay at Villa Gisella A, so much so, that we hope to return again for another month as soon as we can.

The villa was accurately described and advertised. The views were fantastic from the very large terrace. The villa was complete in every way with all that we needed.

Signora Adriana [the owner] and her family were so welcoming and gracious. She made us feel like family sending us fresh vegetables and fruits, homemade cakes and jams, fresh tomato sauce and salad greens. They are such lovely people. And we loved Praiano for its less touristy feeling.

Summer in Italy has got it all figured out. You are fantastic and deserving of all the good reviews we read. Thank you for your professional service. You assisted us in every way, answered immediately all questions that we had and provided so much helpful advice before our trip. You really made it easy for us. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • Praiano lies between Amalfi and Positano and is less touristy and more quiet, allowing a visitor to feel more "at home".
  • We had a car which we used to drive to Ravello for an overnight stay. Parking for villa guests is about a 1/2 mile walk, not real convenient, as it involves unlocking several gates off the main road. You really don't need a car, however, as the local buses will take you to Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento, and other places of interest. The red bus (to Positano only) runs about every hour. The SITA bus runs more frequently and goes to a variety of towns. Tickets for both can be bought at the tabbachi shop and grocers.
  • There are three markets. We used them all -- such fun to buy daily provisions for meals outside. There are 2 butchers and a fish market. The fish was so delicious.
  • There are 6 or 7 excellent restaurants on the main street, and several on the beach level. We didn't go to the beach, as the 400 steps down and back seemed a bit daunting for us seniors. However, our daughter and her boyfriend joined us for 10 days and enjoyed Capri for 2 nights and the 5-hour hike on the Path of the Gods to Positano. We settled for driving up to Ravello. Driving is not for the timid, however.
  • Make sure you pay a visit (or two) to Vivaro's Wine Bar and to Bar del Sole for coffee and people-watching.
  • Would definitely recommend day trips to Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento and Pompeii.
  • Because we stayed for a month, it was wonderful some days to do nothing but relax in the sun on the terrace and enjoy the vista of sea, mountains, Positano and perhaps fireworks at night! Just savor it all!

May 2013 - We absolutely loved Villa Gisella A and would definitely stay there again.

The owner was wonderful and even sent down homemade goodies for us. One day when it had rained while we were out sightseeing, she even brought in our laundry so it would not get wet.

The villa was very clean and homelike with everything needed for a comfy stay -- sightseeing brochures, every type of kitchen utensil you might want, etc. We cooked in several times and loved having our breakfast out on the beautiful patio with the 180 degree view of the coastline, Positano, and Capri.

We look forward to another visit someday and would definitely stay here.

We booked with Summer In Italy when we saw the pictures of Villa Gisella A and we are so glad we did. Summer In Italy was extremely helpful and we would highly recommend both. Our experience was perfect. We loved Italy and dream of a return visit.

Travel tips

  • You will love a stay at Villa Gisella. The bus stop (number 5) is close to the villa and we made daily trips to Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, and Sorrento. Praiano is a peaceful little town, but very convenient with Amalfi and Positano only short bus rides away. We bought 3 day bus tickets and traveled easily back and forth. Pompeii and Herculaneum can be easily visited by taking the SITA bus to Sorrento and the train which we did.
  • The ride on the Amalfi coast road was awesome -- glad we did not have a car ! The markets, tobacco shop (where you buy bus tickets), restaurants, and bars are within easy walking distance. We went to the church right down the street and even walked down the 400 steps to the beach!

March 2013 - Adriana [the owner] made us welcome from the moment we arrived. The apartment is extremely well equipped and our one week stay was memorable.

The weather was not great so we were not able to enjoy sitting on the terrace with its million dollar view of Positano and Capri as much as we wished.

The SITA bus service enabled us to visit Amalfi, Ravello and Positano without worrying about parking.

We carried away the remains of the special Easter cake that Adriana baked for us and great memories of Praiano. We tried the local restaurants and found them excellent.

October 2012 - We had an amazing time at Villa Gisella A - it was very comfortable - the view was fantastic and the owners were very friendly and helpful. We couldn't fault it.

We explored the area on foot and by bus and found some wonderful places to eat. It is very hilly so not to everyone's taste but if you are reasonably fit it won't be a problem.

September 2012 - We had a wonderful time in Villa Gisella A. It was for us a beautiful peaceful location with excellent hosts.

We enjoy walking so the stairs up to the property were not a concern and the reward was the outstanding view. We virtually lived on the terrace so the combined kitchen dining living room did not affect our stay.

The house was very well presented with care for detail which we really appreciated. There was fresh tomatoes, basil, figs, onions, garlic and grapes from the owners' garden which greeted us upon our arrival, and Adriana gave a lovely homemade lemon sponge cake during our stay.

This is a villa that I would return to in my next visit in the Amalfi Coast.

September 2012 - I stayed at villa Gisella A for a week with my parents in September 2012. It really is a beautiful apartment, equipped with everything we could possibly need, from a hairdryer to pegs for hanging out our laundry!

The apartment was spotlessly clean, and the owners have obviously taken great care to make it as comfortable and welcoming as possible with really thoughtful little touches.

When we arrived Adriana (the owner) and her daughter met us, and took our heavy suitcases up the 96 steps on a really clever little pulley system. We climbed the steps to the apartment, resting for a few moments on our way up! and were warmly welcomed to the apartment by Adriana, who showed us around and gave us plenty of useful information, like local bus timetables etc. Adriana had also provided us with a gift of fresh eggs, lemons, tomatoes and figs from her garden, and her own delicious home-made jam. We arrived late in the evening, and it was dark, so we didn't have an opportunity to see the view until the next morning.

What a view!!! Villa Gisella A is lovely apartment, but the large terrace with such a breathtaking view is definitely the very best thing about it. We found it really difficult to tear ourselves away from the terrace to explore the area. You can clearly see the Sirens rocks from the terrace, and on a clear day you can even see the famous arch of Capri (or on a duller day using the binoculars that are thoughtfully provided in the apartment). We certainly made good use of the table and chairs on the terrace, eating most of our meals there. We also appreciated the deckchairs and sun loungers that are provided for guests use.

The kitchen was well equipped (except no mugs - only cups and glasses), and was a pleasure to cook in, especially using Adriana's fresh produce. The living area is limited in space, consisting of a large dining table and chairs/benches, and three comfortable armchairs in a small area adjoining the kitchen, but we didn't find this to be a problem, as we were fortunate enough to have good weather during our stay, so the terrace was our living area.

The bedrooms are very spacious, with comfortable beds and lovely French doors leading to the terrace. I loved drinking coffee in bed in the morning with the doors open, looking over the sea towards Capri.

The bathroom is small, but adequate. It was as spotlessly clean as the rest of the apartment, and well equipped with plenty of storage space for toiletries, hooks, towels and dressing gowns. The only thing that caused us a problem was the shower curtain - the shower itself was big enough, and sufficiently powerful, but the curtain was attached to a series of metal 'arms' (like a spiders legs), which were awkward and caused the wet shower curtain to stick to us. I believe this is quite a popular design in Italy (I have experienced the same thing in other apartments I have stayed in across Italy), but it just doesn't work for me!

I cannot recommend this apartment highly enough, it is in the best part of Praiano if you are looking for peace and quiet (right on the edge of the village - the Positano side), but within easy walking distance of the shops and bars. Adriana is a very generous and welcoming host, she even shared a cake she had baked for her family with us one evening - putting half of it in a wicker basket and letting it down from her terrace above ours on a string!

Summer in Italy were very efficient, answering all my queries promptly and efficiently.

Travel tips

  • We found the best restaurant to be Restaurant La Strada, and it's only a couple of doors down from villa Gisella. It was reasonably priced, good quality food, with a good selection of meat, fish, pasta and pizzas. The service, although not the quickest, was friendly, efficient and welcoming, and the food was certainly worth waiting a little longer for!
  • A short (less than 5 minutes) walk into the village we found Angela's shop on the left, it is a tiny shop crammed full of everything you could imagine. Angela and her son were really helpful, finding all we needed for the evening meal we were planning to cook, and her son even delivered our groceries to villa Gisella on his moped!
  • La Gavitella beach is several hundred steps down towards the sea from villa Gisella, but Marina di Praia is the other side of the village. We walked there the first time, but after that took the local bus there for a boat trip to Capri with La Sibilla, and we also used La Sibilla for a water taxi to Amalfi. We found them reasonably priced (70 euro's for a return trip for 3 people to Amalfi), reliable (they picked us up to return to Marina di Praia at the pre-arranged time), and informative (pointing out the landmarks on the way, and a quick detour to get a good view of the Fuore gorge as we passed by).

September 2012 - We had a fabulous holiday at Villa Gisella A.

We were made very welcome by the owner, and although our Italian is not great, we were able to communicate easily with her in French, which she speaks fluently. The gifts of fruit and vegetables from her garden terrace and even a home cooked cake lowered down to us in a basket were very much appreciated, as was the solar powered light when we had a power cut in the village one evening!

The view from the villa was stunning, one of the best in the village in our opinion and being able to sit out under the olive tree and enjoy a drink while watching the sunset was wonderful. We would be happy to visit again.

You have a great web site and service which we have already recommended to friends.

Travel tips

  • There is a most stunning view from the villa and a very welcoming owner. English is not spoken much, but she speaks fluent French.
  • Not a place to stay if you are not fit, as there are a great many steps to negotiate especially if you want to visit the beach.
  • Sun beds at the beach are between 8 and 15 euros a day each, so not a cheap day out especially if you also buy lunch or drinks [public beach is also available].
  • The fishmonger in the village sells amazing freshly caught fish every day, but you will need some Italian or a phrase book to converse with him and there is an excellent butcher and a good green grocer just down the road.
  • The nearest restaurant, which is very good, is yards from the foot of the villa steps and we were able to get a meal even though we arrived at nearly 11 pm.
  • A trip using public transport(bus and train) to Pompeii was easy and well worth the early start. We even managed to have dinner in Sorrento on the way back, even though we were very dusty! A highly recommended day out, don't miss the 4 wheel drive trip through the national park to the crater of Vesuvius, which you can get from outside the Pompeii train station. Although it was an extremely hot day, we went to the crater in the morning and the air at the top of the mountain was cool and refreshing. Pompeii in the afternoon was much quieter, as the hoards of cruise liner guided tours had gone. We paid 10 euros per person for a superb guide, who spent a couple of hours showing us details of Pompeii we would have completely missed if we had wandered around on our own. Fascinating and well worth it.

August 2012 - I absolutely loved Villa Gisella A. I can honestly say it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed.

The view from the terrace is breathtaking and instills a feeling of total calm and relaxation. The terrace itself is absolutely charming, We could hardly tear ourselves away.

The owner was warm and welcoming and really made us feel at home from the beginning.

Ok, the parking 800 meters away and there are lots of steps to the apartment, but it really didn't matter. The apartment, terrace and views more than made up for that.

We really enjoyed our stay there and would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.

June 2012 - We loved living in Villa Gisella A.

The terrace has the nicest view ever. The kitchen is better equipped than our own and the view from the bedrooms is hilarious.

The owners have an "elevator" for bringing your luggage upstairs to Villa Gisella A. We even got home grown vegetables from the owner's garden for cooking.

I would recommend Villa Gisella A to everyone who wants to be a bit away from the crowds of Amalfi.

Travel tips

  • Grocery can be done just around the corner. But expect to find some first necessary food gifts from the owners in the kitchen when you arrive.
  • The beach in Praiano is nice, but if you do not want to walk down a hundred steps, just stop at Marina di Praia. Beautiful beach with own parking lot.
  • A parking lot at Villa Gisella is about 5 minutes walk, but I would recommend renting a motorbike as the parking situation is a mess all around the Amalfi coast.

May 2012 - We absolutely loved Villa Gisella A and, based on other places we stayed during a month in Italy, it was also extremely good value for money.

The villa was in a stunning location with an exceptional view which we could enjoy from the generous terrace. It was also very well stocked, with a full kitchen and the best hair dryer I used during our time in Italy!

The location was also excellent. Praiano was quieter and less touristy than the other Amalfi towns we visited, but Positano was easily accessible in one direction and Amalfi in the other.

But what really made it was the unobtrusive and lovely help of Signora Adriana [the owner] and her daughter Michela and the thoughtful touches they put into the place including home grown produce, a freshly baked cake and his and hers dressing gowns. Signora Adriana also helped return some belongings I left behind (even dry cleaning them for me before sending them).

The villa is up 90 or so stairs so if you have limited mobility this may cause you some difficulty. The proprietors have a cable trolley and helped us with our bags.

I would highly recommend this place to others.

The service from Summer in Italy was excellent. We always got prompt replies to any queries and thorough (and humorous) information. I was also extremely impressed by the efficiency and helpfulness of the staff who helped to organise the return of belongings I left behind at Villa Gisella A.

Travel tips

  • Although the coast is rightfully the main focus of visits to this area, we really enjoyed a visit to Ravello for stunning views and a different atmosphere.

April 2012 - Villa Gisella was above and beyond what I expected. The pictures online are very accuratA r an entire week and I could have stayed longer, the view is amazing.

Our landlady far exceeded her duties, she was very friendly and delivered several baked goods to us as well as helped us plan some of our activities.

I would recommend this villa to anyone travelling to the Amalfi coast area.

Travel tips

  • Praiano is in my opinion the best place to stay. It is not a touristy area so you are away from all the touristy things but close enough to attend any if you so desire.
  • The grocery store was just down the street from us as well as butcher shop, many restaurants and shops.

October 2011 - The villa itself was very nicely appointed - there was everything we could have needed. The only thing we feel we could have improved on was the "living" space, but this was adequate.

The view was stunning - possibly one of the best you can get along the whole of the Amalfi coast. And the sunsets were to die for!

Our hostess - Adriana - was wonderfully welcoming, presenting us with a couple of plates of fresh, homegrown produce on our arrival. Then the next evening, she produced a plate of small homemade cakes - delicious!

All in all, we felt very much at home and fell madly in love with place.

Travel tips

  • The "Path of the Gods" is a most stupendous walk, a must for all visitors. I even managed to overcome my fear of heights, it was so beautiful and spectacular.
  • It's a great area for walks, both in the immediate surroundings and further afield. There are good walking maps on sale in the local tobacconist.
  • The local food stores have everything you're likely to need. Avoid shopping in rip-off stores such as the one we inadvertently shopped in, in Amalfi (can't remember the name of it). So don't feel any sense of urgency to do your shopping before arriving in Praiano - move in first, then have a wander.

October 2011 - We enjoyed our stay at Villa Gisella A. The property manager, Senora Adriana, was very friendly and hospitable. She even made us a homemade tiramisu which was delicious!

The villa is in a great location in town, making it close to everything. Don't worry about the 90 steps - you quickly get used to them and there is a neat lift to take your luggage up to the villa so you don't have to carry them!

There were only two minor drawbacks for us: 1.) the shower is very small and 2.) the parking for our car was quite far making it a bit of a hassle for outings that required use of the car.

You do a wonderful job providing directions to the villa and what to expect and need while traveling to Italy. I love your links to points of interest near the villa I was staying at.

Overall, we were very satisfied. Thank you so much.

Travel tips

September 2011 - We loved staying at Villa Gisella A. The apartment had everything we could possibly need and was very clean. The view was amazing and we ate outside on the terrace every meal.

The town of Praiano was much quieter than Positano which we liked and not nearly as touristy. We loved walking down for our coffee every morning and going to the small but great supermarket for our supplies.

One of the highlights was the basket of goodies Adriana [the owner] would lower down to us from her apartment above.

Summer In Italy was fantastic especially as I kept changing my mind about a second apartment. They were so helpful, professional and always responded to my e-mails promptly. Thank you so much

Travel tips

  • Be prepared to walk up 90 steps to your apartment but with the view that you get who would mind.

September 2011 - Villa Gisella A is in an amazing spot with some of the best views in Praiano.

The best part is definitely the terrace and the living area is quite small because of this. This is not a problem as no one would want to sit in there when they could be admiring the view.

The apartment was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. The view from the terrace was breathtaking.

We liked Praiano because it offered the charm and beauty of the Amalfi coast without the crowds of other busier towns.

Our caretaker, Signora Adriana was a very friendly, generous and extremely helpful woman. Signora Adriana and her family made our stay even more enjoyable. We felt just at home.

We look forwarding to returning to Villa Gisella A and would recommend it to anyone. The 80 steps to the apartment are very much worth it.

July 2011 - The hospitality at Villa Gisella A was terrific!

They've thought of everything you might possibly need - from a cooler-type bag for packed lunches to all of the local tourism info to a well appointed kitchen. There are a few staples in the cupboards such as tea, sugar, olive oil and the like. The owners even provided fresh produce from their garden, fresh eggs from their chickens, and a lift back from their parking/garden further along the coast, which is really going above and beyond.

The apartment is really nice. Bedrooms are large by European standards. The bathroom was spotless. The kitchen/living room/dining room combo is small but functional. But this space is really all about the terrace. It's big, beautiful and has the most spectacular view overlooking the sea and Positano. Sundowners on the terrace are a must!

And while the walk up to the Villa (100 steps or so) may be daunting, especially after the end of a long day in the sun, at least when you first arrive, your bags will be hauled up for you by a nifty little pulley system.

Travel tips

  • If you'll be driving in yourself, try to get there before the height of traffic on Saturday afternoon. It can be harrowing for a first-time Amalfi Coast driver. After we arrived we only took the car out once to go to Pompeii and we did that early morning when the traffic was non-existent, which made the drive much more pleasant.
  • The area is well served by two different kinds of buses that will take you to Positano or Amalfi, etc.
  • Know that parking is 0.8 km away, because that's where the owners have their additional property (their terraced garden). There is no parking at Villa Gisella itself.
  • There is a small market just south of Villa Gisella where you can purchase any groceries/liquor you might need. The butcher is a little further south than the market.
  • Two very different oceanfront experiences can be had nearby - the first is essentially straight down from the Villa, following the steps cut into the cliffside that begin just a bit south of the Villa. At the bottom of 350 or so steps (plus the 100 down from the Villa!) you'll find a couple of restaurants that will rent loungers and keep the glasses topped up and bellies filled. Water entry is off a concrete dock, with a ladder to get back out. You could also come down and just sit on the large rocks/boulders here and there, without paying for the 'beach club', but you'll want a mat for comfort. The other oceanfront experience is a little further away, heading south on the main road to Marina di Praia. Once you find the stairs it's a more gentle walk down to a kid-friendly large pebble beach. Again, there are two beach clubs plus a number of restaurants to choose from.
  • We didn't have a single bad restaurant experience, so won't make any recommendations. Have fun trying them all out yourself!

July 2011 - We enjoyed Villa Gisella A thoroughly. It provided everything we needed and more in that the pictures almost don't do it justice.

The bedrooms are a great size and the kitchen/diner/living room was perfect for the 4 of us. The villa was so clean and polished and the kitchen was so well equipped we couldn't have asked for more. What was really special tho was the terrace, outdoor tables and fabulous view.

The welcoming baskets of lemons, peaches, plums, eggs and the lemon cake given to us by Adriana - really made our holiday special.

The only tiny gripe was the car parking space so far away - even further in the heat and along busy road - but at least we had a parking space!!

Travel tips

  • Use the local buses for local trips - much cheaper than the SITA buses. Buy tickets from the little supermarket down the road - which incidentally has everything you could want for wonderful lunches on the terrace.
  • Don't miss Ravello and Amalfi and hire a boat locally - fab!

June 2011 - We enjoyed our stay at Villa Gisella A.

Adriana [the owner] kept us well supplied with home grown lemons, beans, eggs, peaches, apricots just to mention a few.

The apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The terrace was the best feature. We could enjoy the view and watch the sun set in the evening over Positano.

The Summer in Italy website was easy to navigate and all queries promptly answered. We would use Summer in Italy again and also recommend them to others. We were guided through the booking process which went through smoothly. Overall a very positive experience.

Travel tips

  • Praiano is a small village half way between Amalfi and Positano. The Sita buses run frequently past the villa so it was easy to get around. There is a small grocery store, gift shop and post office close by plus several restaurants. It is a quiet place but that is exactly what we liked about it.

June 2011 - We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Gisella A. The place was just like described in a Summerinitaly web pages.

Maybe the best thing was the very friendly and helpful host-family at Villa Gisella A and also in general very friendly people in Praiano which was a very positive bonus for our stay.

For Summer in Italy I don't have nothing else than positive to say. Everything went very smoothly and well organized and especially the tips you sent for us they were very useful. We selected Summer in Italy just when reviewing the web pages. I would say I can warmly recommend you to my friends.

Travel tips

  • Maybe the transportation is a thing I could shortly comment: please reserve enough time for the transportation at least if you move by the local SITA buses. The distances are short in kilometers but in time long and the buses are full. And in general be careful of the traffic in a main street, the cars and the scooters they use to drive that narrow mountain street, they don't brake. So reserve enough time for the transportation and prepare for the surprises.

June 2011 - Absolutely loved Villa Gisella A. I think we were so lucky to have stayed there. Our host Adriana was just so hospitable. Sending us fresh eggs, jams and baking us homemade cakes and treats.

The villa was very clean and comfortable and the view to die for! Bedrooms were a good size and plenty of wardrobe space. Kitchen and living room also very adequate. The only downside perhaps the shower was quite small with a shower curtain clinging when washing.

Public transport up & down the Amalfi coast straight outside the gates.

But lots of steps to get to our villa-but as expected - the view from the top worth it.

Suitcases were sent up by a cable trolley system which was no problem at all.

Would thoroughly recommend.

Using Summer in Italy was a very easy and pleasant experience and would recommend it. All emails answered promptly and information given as required. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • Praiano situated between Positano and Amalfi so you can catch the local bus either way. Lots of lovely restaurants and pizzerias in the town and a small supermarket and macelleria nearby.

May 2011 - We LOVED our holiday at Villa Gisella A and really had a great time there! Our host Adriana was very kind, helpful and generous and the clean and spacious apartment is very good suited for 4 people.

We travelled with our two small children and got a baby cot and two baby-chairs for the apartment as well as lots of toys for our daughter - she was delighted - and we were too!

The large and sunny terrace offers stunning views - one of the best we found at the Amalfi coast!

We were VERY happy with Summer in Italy - nothing to complain - we would book again!!! Very professional, informative, quick and kind!

Thanks for your help!

Travel tips

  • The town Praiano was the perfect location for us. It's a nice little town and well connected to the other bigger and more touristic towns. Additionally we think it's a very good place to start great hiking tours, which offer wonderful views and good exercise.
  • The closest beaches are nicely located, but they are more pebbles than sand beaches. If your children expect to build sand castles they might get disappointed.
  • We came to Praiano by car because of our two toddlers, but we found it is nearly no advantage have a car at the Amalfi Coast. The public transport is very good and cheap and nearly everywhere it is hard and quite expensive to park your car. Villa Gisella has a parking space approx. 8 minutes walk from the house.

April 2011 - My wife, daughter and I just returned from a wonderful week at Villa Gisella A. It was everything we hoped for and more. My first impression on walking in the front door was that the Villa was spotless. Everything was immaculate, and everything worked.

Mrs. Adriana looked after us wonderfully. There was fresh fruit jam, fresh eggs, even a surprise birthday cake on my birthday.

Praiano is excellently situated for seeing the Amalfi coast. It's peaceful and quiet, but an easy bus trip to either Positano or Amalfi. Or Ravello, or Sorrento for that matter.

The villa is not for the mobility challenged - it's 96 steps up. But - the reward for those 96 steps is the forever view - absolutely stunning.

If you are considering Villa Gisella A, don't consider it any longer - do it. You will not regret it for an instant.

June 2010 - We loved staying at the Villa Gisella A. The view was unbelievable and the property owners were generous, helpful and kind.

Positives:

The owners are wonderful. The deck is fantastic, along with the view. The kitchen has great appliances and every detail is thought of. The bedrooms are comfortable. Praiano is quiet and small, which was very relaxing. Best of all: we enjoyed our egg and vegetable deliveries each morning, and our cake on the last day!

Drawbacks:

The beach is far away and there's not all that much to do with a 3 year old in Praiano. We needed to go other places most days and getting around wasn't all that easy. I found the living room to be too cramped - particularly because we had children's toys and so on to accommodate. The lack of a comfortable couch or side table was more difficult than I had thought it would be.

March 2010 - We really enjoyed staying at Villa Gisella.

The owners are very nice and friendly people. The place is beautiful and view from terrace are unforgettable. Villa is fully equipped and very clean. It was very pleasant to receive the fresh eggs and home-made jam.

The last night of our stay Adriana [the owner] made us a wonderful surprise to bake lemon cake for our daughter.

Everything was done excellent by Summer In Italy. All our special requests have been fully done.

Travel tips

  • Villa has a secured parking place.
  • Praiano is a small town and all shops and restaurants in walking distance.
  • The squid in the restaurant La Brace is superb!
  • Don't miss the roads and views.

February 2010 - Vila Gisella was more gorgeous than any pictures could ever show. We had a view of the spectacular Amalfi Coast from every room through the french doors and the patio went the entire length of the apartment looking out over the most beautiful view I have ever seen in my life. The mountains plunging into the sea over the Mediterranean at sunset took our breath away.

The apartment was clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable and perfect for us in every way. We were treated to huge lemons and clementines from Andrea's grove and fresh eggs form her chickens as well as other delicious treats.

The town was the perfect getaway for us as we went for hikes and took walks into town daily for pastries or espresso. This town is in the center of the Amalfi Coast yet away from the big towns offering a spectacular home base to explore by. We loved it.

Thanks so much. We were so happy with our choice and loved everything about Italy and where we stayed.

Travel tips

  • Andrea was so generous and thoughtful. She speaks very little English, but her daughter Marzia speaks it fluently and the graciousness of these Italian women makes you feel so at home immediately.
  • We loved the hike to the "path of the Gods" just behind her home starting from town.
  • We also loved the local market and the church in town is incredible with its lemon mosaic tiles.
  • Off season it's best to rent a car to have a chance to see the rest of the coast line.

October 2009 - Villa Gisella was an excellent base to explore the Amalfi coast. Quieter than Positano and Amalfi, yet set between the two.

The owners are lovely people who made us very welcome. Adriana [the owner] even baked me a birthday cake! Thank you so much.

The villa had every conceivable convenience - even a dishwasher and washing machine. I enjoyed my daily helping of fresh Italian coffee using the supplied filter coffee machine.

The 96 steps up from the street helped to work off the effects of the superb Italian cooking to be found in Praiano.

The views from the very large balcony were spectacular.

Although the traffic noise didn't bother us, Italian drivers like their horns!

Travel tips

  • Be aware that the local shops seem to run a two-tier pricing system. One for locals and one for tourists!
  • You must be ok with steps -we climbed over 1000 steps in 1 day!
  • We found a great bar just down the road called Vivaro. The owner was friendly and spoke good English, served free food with every drink order, and was still the cheapest place to drink in Praiano!!!
  • The highlights were the trips to Ravello - breathtaking, and Capri - once you got out of the shopping area.

October 2009 - Our stay in mid October 2009 was just wonderful. The view of the ocean and the Amalfi cost from the terrace was breathtaking, and you could enjoy it not only from the terrace but from any room in the villa.

The villa is quite new and offers anything you could wish for in modern facilities (dishwasher, washing machine).

But first and foremost our hostess was extremely friendly and nice to us. All in all a memorable vacation.

Travel tips

  • Just a word of warning: the bus system works fine and you can get around the Amalfi coast easily, but be prepared for buses so filled, that they cannot take you on! Try to avoid "tourist rush hours".

October 2009 - I went to Villa Gisella with my 2 teenage nephews and we loved it.

The view was stunning and we were looked after beautifully during our time there. Fresh fruit, home made jam and cake were way above our expectations and we were so grateful to Adriana for her kindness and hospitality.

The kitchen of the Villa is very well equipped and we even had the use of a dishwasher and washing machine with powder provided to see us through our stay.

Keep up the wonderful standard of accommodation and hospitality - it was a real pleasure to be treated so well!! Thank you so much.

Travel tips

  • The stairs to the Villa require a reasonable degree of fitness but the view at the end makes the effort all worthwhile.
  • The village is lovely with all amenities such as a Tourist Information office, bus stops, an ATM, a pharmacy and a supermarket only a couple of minutes' walk from the Villa.

September 2009 - Excellent location. We easily forget the steps to arrive at the suite.

The host, Mme Adriana talks very well french and gave us many advices to help our visit.

The suite is exactly what we expected. No surprise.

Everything was perfect.

The location is better than Positano for the view and the atmosphere of the village.

We loved the little grocery where we could find all what we needed.

Excellent communication and advice. We will, I hope, do and other trip in Italy with you. Thank you for your help to make this trip an excellent souvenir.

Travel tips

  • Don't hesitate to choose this location compared to Positano. Much nicer.

The landcouple was so very nice and friendly and made our stay even better!

Travel tips

  • Don't bring a car, use the buses!
  • Bring trainers and climb up to the old monastery behind the house on an early morning. The view is breathtaking!
  • Rent a motor boat in Amalfi and go for a ride on the coast! It was the best!

August 2009 - It was the most perfect view you could imagine.

The owners - who lives upstairs - are very very nice - and want the best for you.

Everybody was very nice - also the people in the little quiet city.

There was everything you needed in the kitchen for making your own food - and very clean everywhere.

Travel tips

  • If you need at quiet place with a perfect view this is the best place, just be aware of the steps - there are 90 of them from the street to the flat. But they go easy.

August 2009 - We were really impressed by the hospitality and the cleanliness of villa Gisella. Mrs Adriana is the best ever, she thought of everything that one might need staying in a furnished apartment and I MEAN EVERYTHING! And the view was really breathtaking.

However we were really exhausted by the number of stairs we had to climb coming and going especially that we had two young children and the parking designated was almost a village away so we had to look for a place to park which wasn't really easy, other than that we fell in love with Italy, the Italians are the warmest people ever, and the Amalfi and Sorrento coast is simply a piece of heaven.

Travel tips

  • It is an excellent place but only to people with no young children and preferably who should be renting a Vespa and not a car.

Keep up the good standard.

Travel tips

  • Make walking up lots of steps your friend. Villa Gisella is conveniently located with shops, restaurants and transportation close by.

June 2009 - Villa Gisella was quite honestly one of my best ever holidays! The Amalfi Coast is stunning and staying at Villa Gisella made it all the more perfect.

The host was lovely including fresh fruit from her garden and a homemade pie!

The huge terrace really makes this property with amazing view to Positano and Capri.

Great price compared to a lot of other properties but you're not compromising on anything - 2 good size bedrooms, full kitchen including all equipment, lounge and huge terrace. Also air-con in all the rooms.

Travel tips

  • There is no need to hire a car for the Amalfi Coast, buses will take you to all the surrounding towns plus Naples. Also given the roads, you won't want to be driving!

June 2009 - We cannot rate Villa Gisella highly enough! The view was absolutely fabulous, and the apartment met all of our requirements.

The location was great, with stairs directly to the beach basically opposite the apartment.

We were most impressed with the hospitality of the owners - they always made sure we were OK, and sent down lots of goodies - jam, eggs, and a homemade lemon tart - what a lovely touch!

Really great booking experience using this site. There were no surprises which is great.

Travel tips

  • If you are after a quiet, relaxed holiday away from all the tourists then stay in Praiano. The town has everything you need - restaurants, a cafe, small supermarket and souvenir shop. It is well connected to the bigger towns like Positano and Amalfi by the Sita bus, which runs approx every 30 mins.

May 2009 - Everything was even more that I dared to hope.

The terrace was spacious and the view breathtaking! Inside all was super clean, felt new and the kitchen had everything necessary even detergents for dishwasher and laundry. Not to mention lemons, olive oil etc. Though why cook when the near by restaurants are super? Bedrooms were as they are in Italy, simple but perfect. Bathroom worked well though the shower is not roomy!

The overall service from Summer in Italy was the best ever, thank you also for providing names for excellent driver service.

I have been in Italy a lot, but still left my hart after 3 weeks there, in Adriana's good care, so I have to go back and pick it up some day!

Travel tips

  • Don't insist having a car, buses work just fine! It is also possible to rent a driver/taxi and it is cheaper, safer and more fun!

April 2009 - We loved Villa Gisella... the owner was just great, generous, friendly... basically we loved the place... we knew the living room was almost non existent from the photos but it was really just comfortable chairs in front of a TV with dining room table and chairs... for us that did not matter as it was the outside that made the difference... the only reason we think the bathroom is average is because of the shower... it was very difficult with the way they had the shower curtain situated... but we would still recommend it and you to anyone who asked and we would go back..

I booked with Summer In Italy because of the professionalism and knowledge of your staff... no question went unanswered no matter how silly it was. I also liked the thoroughness of your website...

Travel tips

  • No special advice, everything is as stated on the website... Everything was easy...
  • We liked the idea of being close to public transportation to go either to Positano, Sorrento or the other way to Amalfi...
  • We also appreciated how quiet it was there...
  • The little shops were perfect for buying fresh fish, veggies etc...

October 2008 - We loved Villa Gisella. Our week spent here was one of the highlights of our trip. The view was breathtaking, Adriana's hospitality amazingly warm and the unit was wonderfully equipped so we could self cater when we wanted to.

We also loved the location - Praiano was a great base to explore the Amalfi Coast. It was out of the big centres of Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento so it had more of a village atmosphere, but it was still really close to everything and the bus stop was right at our front door.

We couldn't talk highly enough of Villa Gisella - it was wonderful.

Great service from Summer In Italy. Like the fact that you can ask questions easily and got really quick responses. Also great descriptions re getting to the property and liked the fact that we could add details re when we were arriving etc and update as the time got closer.

Travel tips

  • Very easy to take day trips to all the main attractions from Praiano - get the 24 hour bus ticket and you are set. We did day trips to Sorrento, Amalfi and Ravello, Positano, Capri and Pompeii. All very each.
  • The supermarket in Praiano was fabulous - lovely family business and they were all really friendly.

The view is outstanding and the sunsets we witnessed every evening took our breath away.

Travel tips

  • Definitely do the Walk of the Gods. You'll probably be sore the next day but it's worth it for the views.
  • Restaurant Il Pirata is a great place for dinner and becomes a night club. The staff are a hoot and know how to make you feel like a local.

October 2008 - Very, very nice place.

The views are wonderful.

We really enjoy our time at villa Gisella and the owner is very kind...

The apartment was very clean. Nice gift when you arrived and all week long (fruits, lemons, olive oil, etc).

Don't care with the car parked 800 m away. You don't really need it. We were be able to park nearby if there were no too much visitors around. And if can't... it's a nice walk.

All was perfect with you guys at SummerInItaly. No surprise.

Travel tips

  • Use the bus when you have to visit Amalfi, Ravello or Positano. You can do in town all by walk.
  • Bus is not expensive and you can take it any time you want with a day pass (24 hours)
  • If you go to Capri: you have 2 business at Praiano arbour. Don't take La Sibilla. My English is not enough good to explain you but they are not good.

September 2008 - Villa Gisella is perhaps the most ideal location for an Amalfi Coast vacation ever. Located just short bus trips from Amalfi and Positano, we relished the ability to take day trips and still enjoy the tranquility of our little slice of Italy.

And there are simply no words to describe just how wonderful the property manager and her family are! We are already discussing how to get back to Villa Gisella as soon as possible.

Thank you, Summer In Italy, for offering such a spectacular place. Any time you wake up and look out at the Mediterranean without taking your head off your pillow is truly a gift.

SummerInItaly is fantastic! I really can't think of anything you could have done to make our trip any more wonderful.

Travel tips

  • Be aware of the 95 steps from street to Villa. As a very kind signora said to us: "Piano, sempre piano." Take it slow, rest if you need to - the view alone is worth it!
  • And always order the vino locale - it's always a good bet.

July 2008 - We had an absolute fantastic time.

Adriana [the owner] made our stay perfect. Lovely lady, very helpful, obliging, kind and considerate.

The villa was in a fantastic position (Praiano was not too touristic) and the view overlooking Positano and Capri was just the icing on the cake.

I think the service we have received has been excellent. I have been kept informed of all transactions/details at appropriate times and would highly recommend Summer In Italy to friends/family and work colleagues.

Travel tips

  • Just be conscious of the amount of steps that need to be climbed to reach the villa - not really suited to the elderly/infirm, but well worth the daily climb.
  • Bus service linking to Amalfi/Sorrento practically outside the villa (well, at the bottom of the steps!).
  • Great little daily food shop just down the road in the village and there is a lovely little fresh fishmongers if you do some cooking for yourself.

June 2008 - Villa Gisella is wonderful and I enjoyed it for three weeks in June.

The apartment is immaculate with many of the appliances being brand new and the views and terrace are just as shown in the website photos, if not better.

But, the absolute best part of Villa Gisella are the owners of and hosts for Villa Gisella. They live in the apartment above, are wonderful hosts and truly just delightful people. Their English is limited (but much better than my Italian) but we were able to communicate and they want to ensure that I had the perfect stay at Villa Gisella.

The only word of caution – the website is accurate that Villa Gisella is 100 steps above the main street in Praiano. The climb up is very pleasant as there is an overhang of lemon trees and other vegetation. But it still is 100 steps – and the beach is another 400 steps down from the main road. The owners do have a pulley system to help get the luggage up the steps but there is no alternative for people so you do have to climb a lot if staying there. But, on the bright side, it helps burn off all the calories in the fabulous food!
