A 1930s era train transports passengers through time and place to the Baroque towns of the Noto Valley, known for their particular beauty and status as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The train isn't just a mode of transportation but a guided visit with a historical twist, that's fun and well-coordinated.

The train leaves from the station of Siracusa with the return in the afternoon (check times, as they may change) and heads towards Noto, Scicli and Modica or Ragusa, with calibrated tours organized by the towns in collaboration with the train, to take passengers on tours of the centro storico sections of each of the jewels in the Baroque crown of towns. Each is a wonder of fanciful style, distinct and exquisite with the details and decorations, unlike any other collection of towns in Italy.

Called a "train-museum" because it moves you through the "exhibits" -the towns themselves. It has also been dubbed "i binari della cultura" (the rails of culture). Definitely something worthwhile and an intriguing way to get an overview of these spectacular towns.

The Treno del Barocco (Baroque Train) operates in the summer months, usually July and August but check the listings on the Fondazione FS website to be sure. The cost runs €20 for adults and €10 for kids. Tickets can be purchased at any train station or through the online site.
