A 45 km from Florence and 38 from Pisa, that's Fucecchio a small living and active town. It lies in part on a small hill and partly round at its base. The steep and isolated hill, just 55 meters above sea level, is the extreme western foothill of heights that, from Montalbano slope between the valley of the Arno and the last stretch of the Padule of Fucecchio.

Here, the two converging valleys, spacious and green, blend together, giving birth to a beautiful flat basin, which extends the front for about ten kilometers between the hills of Cerbaie and those of San Miniato. and extends westward narrowing gradually until reduced to about three kilometers near Pontedera.

In the historical center you can admire the old medieval castle of Rocca with the three towers Gentile, Bernarda and Pagliaiola, St Pietro Igneo's Hospital, the eighteenth-century collegiate church with the rustic brick façade, the ancient abbey and the church St Salvatore's with a mighty bell tower. Between the two churches it opens the Poggio Salamartano, a large panoramic square which dominates the entire valley and surrounding hills.
