Located just 40 kilometers from Milan, you'd think Annone di Brianza would be more crowded, but instead offers a more placid lake experience. The town sits amidst picturesque countryside of gentle hills with the rising pre-Alps beyond, like a postcard picture. The lake comprises two basins connected by a sliver of water. The area is called the "garden of Lombardy," celebrated by writers and artists but rather unknown to travelers.

This is a place for relaxing, but it's also in a position for touring Lake Como (only 9 kilometers from Lecco), Milan, Monza, Como, Bergamo and more. The lake offers kayaking, a cycling/walking path and pretty places to sit and enjoy the views. A golf club and stables are just outside town. The green Monte Barro just beyond the lake is a regional park with outdoors pursuits. There are cafes and restaurants and stores, plus other towns in easy reach for fun and supplies.

The main attraction here is the historic Church of San Giorgio with its intriguing art. (See separate entry under "Churches").

Around town there are villas and archways leading to lanes, and a laid-back atmosphere.
