Excellent

October 2023 - It was the perfect location. A beautiful home.

This was a great experience with very responsive and attentive host! Elvira [the caretaker] was so great.

Travel tips

  • Having the bus stop steps from the door was so great and we used it regularly.
  • The local market has just enough to keep snacks and quick meals on hand. Make sure to go early for fresh bread!

Everything was excellent

September 2023 - The property has a beautiful view. 3 large bedrooms with queen sized beds. Additionally a bunk bed, tucked away off the side of the living room. Two bathrooms. The kitchen is large. The outdoor patio has two sitting areas and a view of the ocean or some houses, depending on where you sit. There was seven adults in total and it fit us comfortably.

If any or all seven of us find ourselves in Amalfi again, we would pick this villa for our stay. Everything was excellent.

Travel tips

  • The bus stop is a very short walking distance, including stairs, to get to.
  • Dongo’s bar is the next road up, you can take stairs to get there. Dongo’s is not on maps or have a website of any sort but they have amazing burgers after 7 pm. Dongo’s also sells bus tickets, cash only.

Great location, highly recommended

September 2023 - Amazing hospitality from Luca and Elvi [the caretaker]! Thank you very much for hosting us, we had a wonderful time at the villa.

Detailed instructions and assistance to get to the accommodation for both via private transfer and public transportation were provided. Recommendations for local areas were great.

It was only a 30 minute walk (down hill) to the city of Amalfi so great location. Not too many stairs considering the location to minimal issues with our luggage.

Would highly recommend. :)

We loved our stay here. The views spectacular!

July 2023 - We loved our stay here. The views spectacular! The outdoor areas are wonderful, we spent most of our time outside when home and had cocktails on the terrace nightly. The kitchen was nicely equipped for cooking. It was very comfortable size wise for the 5 of us. The beds were nice and rooms were spacious.

Elvira, the young lady who was our contact was so helpful and responsive. A very pleasant young lady who helped make our stay so enjoyable.

I saw the house and it caught my eye, I loved the outdoor areas. It checked all the boxes I was looking for. I would definitely rent it again.

Travel tips

  • A big plus is that the bus stop is right at the bottom of the stairs, that made getting around so easy and stress free. The bus runs frequently and go all over. I do suggest buying a bus pass. It was a 10-15 minute ride to the center of town where all the restaurants and shops were, along with a public beach.
  • I definitely recommend taking a boat tour of the Amalfi Coast, you get a look at all the towns and can decide which ones you would like to go back and explore further.

Enjoyed the terrace and the amazing views

June 2023 - Enjoyed staying at this villa. The location was perfect for taking the bus into town. The space was great for 6 adults. We enjoyed the terrace and the amazing views.

Our hosts were easy to communicate with.

Summer In Italy is a great management company and easy to communicate with.

Travel tips

  • Great location with a bus stop at the bottom of the stairs -- there are about 30 steps up and then another 15-20 down to the villa.

Made for the best possible experience of Amalfi and the surrounding area

August 2022 - The whole villa is incredible - from the bedrooms to the terrace, which has views onto the ocean and what can only be called Amalfitan natural countryside.

This villa made for the best possible experience of Amalfi and the surrounding area.

The property was excellent and we all really appreciated Mrs Carmela’s thoughtfulness throughout the stay!

The company all seems well organised, well advertised and have a legitimate image. The constant contact with me before the stay was appreciated, the booklet of info very helpful.

Travel tips

  • The nearby shop sells bus tickets which are necessary to get to Amalfi. The buses are your friends in Amalfi but you have to make sure to be on time, ready to join queues.
  • Positano is worth a visit but Amalfi is without a doubt the best town for restaurants and atmosphere.

Had a great time, highly recommended!

July 2022 - The home and its outdoor terrace areas were beautiful and clean like in the photos, and Carmela showed us how to use each electrical switch (some were for hot water or the refrigerator). We had a great time and highly recommend staying at their home!

Luca and Carmela were great and very kind! They were always available to help us with general information like transportation and Carmela even tried to find a taxi for us when we needed one and couldn’t find one ourselves. Carmela also gave us a recommendation to eat at Dongo’s Bar nearby, which didn’t show up on internet searches but had the best burgers in Italy (seriously)!

Calm and beautiful surroundings just outside of busy Amalfi

July 2022 - We had a wonderful vacation at Villa Marcella. Calm and beautiful surroundings just outside of busy Amalfi. Convenient with busses along the coast but also walking distance to/from Amalfi.

The view from the terrace as well as from the bedrooms is mesmerising! The house was also in great condition, super clean and very good communication with contact person(s).

The local market provides us with delicious groceries which we cooked for dinner and enjoyed on the terrace every night.

Can highly recommend Villa Marcella! We really enjoyed our stay and have great memories with us from our week in the villa.

Decided to stay with Summer In Italy based on reviews and trust worthy website with a wide variation of accommodations around Italy. Will definitely use again when travelling to Italy in the future.

Travel tips

  • Local market up the stairs is great, if you can’t find what you are looking for (which never was the case for us) you can always supplement with groceries from the markets in Amalfi.
  • Check out Marina di Conca Beach, price worthy sun chairs and great restaurant. Within walking distance and beautiful view.
  • Rent a motorboat for a day in Amalfi. We had great fun and saw every bay from Amalfi to Positano. The ferries were also convenient if you can’t drive a boat yourself.

July 2022 - This house was the perfect place to get a great taste of the Amalfi Coast. It is a bit of a hike from the town center, but the busses were easy to figure out. We liked the quietness and chance to get away from the crowds downtown at night. The house was charming and the view was beautiful.

Carmela very willing to help us in all our needs.

Spacious property with lovely terrace and view!

May 2022 - My friends and I had a lovely time staying here in Amalfi! The property is in a bit more of a residential area, but we loved that because it afforded a bit of distance from the busier areas of Amalfi, but we could still walk to the center in 25 minutes (with a beautiful view along the way). Bus stop is right near the property which is very convenient, and a supermarket is also close by.

Property is spacious, and the bedrooms have beautiful views. Lovely terrace and view!

Carmela was communicative and helpful, and checked us in and out easily.

September 2021 - It’s a very nice place where you feel yourself as a true local, spacious, clean, comfortable.

It’s was a real pleasure to deal with Salvatore [the caretaker] and his wife. They made everything to do with checking in and out very smooth and easy.

The location of the villa is something to mention since it’s up the many stairs and not for everyone.

Overall, we had a great time at this villa.

We loved our stay at Villa Marcella and highly recommend it!

October 2019 - We loved our stay at Villa Marcella and highly recommend it! The house itself is beautiful, we loved the location, the ease of using the buses, all the rooms, and even the quality of the Wi-Fi Internet connection.

Summer In Italy couldn't have been any more helpful, responsive, professional, kind, or on top of things!

Travel tips

  • We often walked to town (downhill), then took the bus (euro 1.50) home (uphill!). It takes about 10 minutes.
  • There's a beautiful beach on the way... Entrance is right from the road, then you go down a few hundred steps (it's worth it!!). We spent the day, rented lounge chairs and umbrellas for euro 25 total, ate lunch in the open air restaurant, and at the end of the day they took us by boat to town (Amalfi) for free (we tipped, of course!).
  • One day we took the bus to the trail head and then hiked the Path of the Gods. Highly recommend!
  • Another day we took the ferry to Capri and went up to Anacapri where we took the chair lift to the very top. Amazing views, great fun. Capri is very busy with tourists, but the bus rides alone are worth it!!
  • On another day we walked to Atrani, the next town over from Amalfi. Again, a great "hike", sneakers were fine, and then we took the ferry back to Amalfi.

Pictures do not do it justice

July 2019 - We had an amazing stay at this apartment. It is located in a small village with lemon plantations surrounding it, and with a beautiful view over the ocean. It has three big bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. The pictures do not do it justice - it looks even more incredible in real life.

The apartment is not in the centre of it all, but to us, the location was perfect. It was 10 minutes by bus to Amalfi, and about 35 minutes walking. We could reach the nearest beach - which also turned out to be our favorite in the area - by 15 minutes walking (and 500 or so steps). There is a supermarket five minutes of walking away. We liked that the apartment was not in the middle of a town centre, but others might want something closer to the Amalfi or one of the other towns.

Those with mobility issues should note that the area is very hilly with lots of stairs everywhere (as is most of the Amalfi coast). We did not rent a car, and did not feel like we needed to, but I think if you plan to do that then you might have some difficulty finding parking, as there are not many spaces around.

April 2019 - We loved our stay at Villa Marcella. The view is amazing, very calming and relaxing.

Salvatore and Carmela [the caretakers] were the loveliest of the hosts!!! One of the kids got ill and they took us to the doctor and assisted us in every way they could, thanks again!

Travel tips

  • Free parking on the road is not possible in any way at all during day time and we had to park the cars at a nearby garage for 20 euro a car a day.
  • The drive to the center of Amalfi takes about 10/12 minute if there is no heavy traffic in Amalfi.

We loved Villa Marcella!

April 2019 - We loved Villa Marcella! If you can believe it, the pictures do not do it justice. I was in awe when we arrived. The terrace is huge and the bedrooms and large and comfortable. There is plenty of space for everyone to not feel cramped. Additionally, it is right by the main road to grab the Sita bus.

Using Summer In Italy was great because it was easy to interact and get all of my questions answered.

Travel tips

  • I recommend going up the stairs from the house to find a market and bar. These are great if you want to cook/drink in to save money.
  • Additionally, the market has Sita tickets which you use to get on the bus.
  • The house is a great place to eat outside with friends.

August 2018 - We loved it! Property was perfect. The house was beautiful and spacious, views were spectacular, and we spent a lot of time on the terrace. The only drawback is it was difficult to get to with the terrain and steps.

I will use Summer In Italy again. I appreciated the responses to my questions.

Travel tips

  • The bus was the best. Make sure to take the bus schedule with you.
  • To get to city center is unwalkable, unless you want an adventure.
  • Nearby bar and small store was a pretty steep climb.
  • Taxi prices were outrageous.

A lovely quiet location with splendid views

August 2017 - We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Marcella. The house itself was situated in a lovely quiet location with splendid views to greet you every morning, one not to be missed for sure!! Nothing more relaxing to spend you evening sitting on the terrace. Villa Marcella was very spacious with 3 very decent sized bedrooms.

Very convenient bus stop by the road about a 3-4 min walk from the villa but do beware there are around 40 steps to the main road. Market near by which sold many things but again quite a walk up the steps to get there, ideal way to burn off any calories that you may put on!!

Carmela [the caretaker] was very helpful on the day we arrived and helped us with information on buses and the food market in particular.

Summer In Italy were very helpful before our stay and answered any questions we may of had. Good job by Summer In Italy and will use them again on our next visit.

Travel tips

  • Beware of many steps in the area, anything around 40-60 steps so good health is a good plus.
  • Going in mid August we found the buses very crowded and slow at times, very rarley kept to its scheduled time and often passed you by if full!!
  • Pleasant walk to Amalfi, around 2 miles, if you find the buses to much and all down hill to the beautiful city where you can then find buses or boats to Positano etc., however take care when walking, cars, buses and scooters can get very close to you!!
  • Make sure when eating at the villa you are tidy and clean any food that may fall to the floor as ants might come!!

Summer In Italy service was wonderful. Prompt, accurate, informative and helpful to our stay. Thank you so much!

Travel tips

Very good

September 2016 - Sublimely wonderful views especially from bedrooms and terrace, which I think are the main reason to choose Villa Marcella.

Spacious accommodation and reasonably comfortable. Kitchen and living room rather dated and basic. Electrics needed repeated re-setting, and there was a plumbing problem which should have been fixed before our arrival. It's reasonably inexpensive, and you get what you pay for I suppose.

Travel tips

  • Do not choose the property if you can't handle approximately 60 steps each time you go to the car on the roads above, or half that to the bus-stop or temporary (risky) car-parking place.
  • For the same reason, do not take heavy bags.
  • Be aware there are dogs barking and church bells ringing throughout the night, so it's not as peaceful as you might think.
  • Get the caretaker to show you all the trip-switches (there are 3 sets in 3 different places, and they each needed re-setting more than once) on check-in.

Travel tips

  • Make sure you get current bus schedules right away, you could even print them from the internet before you come. Tickets can be purchased at the little bar/coffee shop at the top of the stairs.
  • Finding parking spots on the road was easy in December, but we would recommend not bringing a car in Spring and Summer.

Fantastic

September 2015 - Villa Marcella excelled my expectations.

The views and location were superb, and though we didn't really have much time for eating at home the kitchen was well prepared. Pretty much all the bedrooms have exceptional views, and the bathrooms were clean, with good showers. The terrace was lovely, the pictures on the website are no exaggeration.

We were a party of six, and the villa is spacious enough to allow everyone to have a bit of private space if they so desire. Of course, being dog owners, we were particularly happy to be able to bring our dog with us, with no problem.

Highly recommended.

Honestly, the entire experience of dealing with Summer In Italy was flawless. I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone who was thinking of planning a trip.

Travel tips

  • Bring adapters for electrical devices. The Italian system won't take your standard two pin.
  • Shop is more or less nearby, but is pretty basic and involves a trip up many steps and a brief trip along the road which should certainly wake you up in the morning.
  • Transportation by bus is sporadic, and the bus was generally pretty packed, even though the bus is very convenient to the villa. Better off, if you don't drive, getting a cab.
  • As far as restaurants go, ask the owner. He recommended a really great place further on up the mountain which stays open later than the average and very importantly, provides transportation.

July 2015 - We absolutely loved Villa Marcella. It is in a great location with amazing views.

We loved sitting on the terrace for breakfast and dinner as we looked over the sea. The villa had everything we needed and was very nicely decorated and clean. It fit all seven of us very comfortably.

I booked with Summer in Italy based on the recommendation of an acquaintance who booked through you last year. I so appreciate that you were able to find us a home on short notice for a short stay. Salvatore the manager was terrific, he gave great recommendations and took good care of us. Both he and his wife Carmela could not have been nicer. Everything exceeded my expectations.

Travel tips

  • Take advantage of the beautiful views at night by having dinner on the terrace under the bougainvillea and lemon tree with a good bottle of wine and some bread, cheese etc.
  • There is a local store a quick walk away where you can get coffee and brioche for breakfast.
  • Enjoy your time exploring Amalfi, no need to go to Capri (which is overly touristy), Amalfi is so much nicer.

Travel tips

  • Leaving your car in Massimo's Parcheggio and making use of free shuttle service to and from the villa to Amalfi is to be recommended. Driving around the hairpin bends and in town is a little crazy at times.
  • The Duoglio beach below the villa is lovely with many facilities for guests.
  • A small supermarket above the villa provided for most of our needs or there is lovely shopping in specialised food markets in the town.
  • Temperature even in September was circa 30 degrees so protection against mosquitoes especially at night is to be advised.

October 2013 - Totally enjoyed Villa Marcella and thanks to Carmela (seemingly known as Mella judging by the shouts of people passing by) and Salvatore [the caretakers] who went above and beyond in helping us. Great views, fantastic interior and courtyard.

Slight problem with leaking main bathroom roof the night it rained heavily and flooded the bathroom, but did not spoil our stay. The sofa was old and pretty much unusable, but again in such a large villa, just a tiny blemish not worth noticing.

Fantastic holiday, would come back again!

P.S. Check out the tips, advice for future guests.

It was a great experience and I would book with you again! Good price, great interaction via email all helped make the choice for us.

Travel tips

  • Just be aware there are no nearby shops or restaurants you can walk to. So get some essentials along before you get here. Because once you are here, you will not want to go out again!
  • There are steep steps up and some down that you have to traverse, only about 50 or so, but difficult if you have heavy luggage, tiny children or prams and such.
  • Car is ideal (we hired at Naples), but there is a bus stop just outside, but I believe that the times are not always convenient if you have travel planned and last buses are not that late, so you have to be back earlier.
  • Nearest good place to eat was in Agerola up the road, the Bar Jotsy at the junction coming up off the Amalfi-Positano road was recommended as a pizzeria but we never got around to trying it due to lack of parking on the winding thin roads. There is apparently a restaurant in Conca dei Marini that will pick you up and drop you back free if you call them, but again we did not get around to trying them as we cooked some superb meals in the kitchen and had fun generally as two young families of four and enjoyed the villa and courtyard and the superb views.
  • You can go to Capri for a day boat trip from Amalfi - best to get a bus to there to avoid parking issues and costs.
  • Don't miss Ravello which is above Amalfi, on a sunny day THE place to be.
  • Positano is lovely, finding parking there horrendous, we had to walk quite a bit.

July 2013 - Villa Marcella is a lovely and spacious home.

The two bathrooms were large, modern and beautifully tiled.

It was nice knowing we had the option of air conditioning but it was not necessary during our stay. We especially enjoyed the outdoor spaces and view as well as being in a non-tourist area.

A good experience with your company, we would do it again.

Travel tips

  • This is more of a rural setting and without a car, like we were, we were dependent on the bus service. We did experience two days of a bus strike so we had to do a lot more walking.
  • There is a cafe/bar about a 20 minute walk down the winding road and also a market up many stairs in the other direction where we enjoyed buying our groceries.

June 2013 - We stayed in Villa Marcella for two weeks at the end of June 2013. A very, very good accommodation for 6 grown ups. Three big bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and a lovely terrace with a view of Mediterranean Sea, mountains and lemon trees and much more.

Mrs Carmela and Salvatore [the caretakers] were very good. Always to our help if we had questions, good advice and tips about restaurants and other places. The restaurant in Conca dei Marini with transport service was great.

If you come with car like us, use Massimo's Park service. He takes care of your car and was always happy and helpful. It is not recommended to park in the street close to the villa.

We can highly recommend Villa Marcella to everybody but think of the stairs from street, approximately 50 steps.

Travel tips

  • A trip to Capri and/or Pompei is great and do not forget Ravello.
  • The restaurant in Conca dei Marini is very good and definitely worth the cost. We spent three evenings there.

May 2013 - We very much enjoyed our stay at the Villa Marcella.

The fact that the bus stop was near by made it super convenient to getting across all of Amalfi. Much, much better than attempting to drive and find parking.

The washing machine, however, really wasn't practical for taking care of a week-long's pile of clothing for 6 people. However, the laundry service in Amalfi took care of that for us.

Overall, this is a key location for ease of getting around the Amalfi coast. Much better in retrospect than some of the other villas we were considering. It was perfect for our needs.

We highly recommend staying here.

Travel tips

  • The water taxi day trip to Capri was great, but if you want to see the Blue Grotto you need to do it immediately upon arriving since the sun in the morning brings out the colors but not so in the afternoon.
  • The bus system from Amalfi is the key to getting around the coast. We bought a 3 day pass and then bought two one day passes since we were there for only 5 full days. There may be a week-long pass.

Travel tips

  • A good location as long as you take the bus or taxis: don't use your car -- parking is impossible in the towns.
  • The boats rides are great! Use these (not the bus) to go to Positano and Capri from town in nice weather.

April 2011 - We stayed at Villa Marcella in April 2011 as a party of eight, two families with two teenagers each!!! It was awesome to be able to get up in the morning and look out the window at the beautiful Mediterranean sea.

The location is fabulous, just remember it is quite a trek either up or down, we were well prepared for walking and really no matter what or where you go in Italy you will do a lot of walking and a lot of stairs.

The kitchen was well enough equipped for us to prepare meals for our group. The beds/pillows were a little on the hard side but that is what we came to expect in Italy. There was not a lot of hot water, but also what we came to expect for Italy, and we never actually had cold showers, just not real hot. Check in and out was smooth and easy, everything went as indicated in our rental agreement.

The apartment was clean. There is a small washer (no dryer but a line outside the living room to hang and not as humid as Rome so clothes actually dried :D )

The best part was sitting out on the terrace enjoying coffee or wine and the view.

I would definitely stay here again!!!

I have to admit I was a little trepid about the whole rental thing, after all we were 8 people who would have been in a real bind without accommodations. But everything was very smooth, emails were handled quickly and the occasional language mixup was always clarified. I would not hesitate to deal with Summer in Italy again.... in fact I hope to return to Italy and give them more business!! Soon!!

Travel tips

  • We would go up the stairs to the road, then left along the road to a little grocer. They really had everything we needed. We were a little surprised on our last night that they were closed early. Nearest we could find out it was grocers day off? No matter, we sent the hubbies down the stairs and to the right and a bit of a walk to the pizzeria. Pizza is sooooo good in Italy.
