Such a dream!!

November 2023 - This home is amazing! Out of the busy downtown area but still so close to everything. Walking to the market each day was so dreamy and the view from every door and window of this home was breath taking! Such a dream!!

Wonderful stay!

October 2022 - Our group had a wonderful stay at this location. We were 15 minutes from Amalfi and a short walk to the grocery store. The views were incredible and it was very peaceful here.

Our host helped us with information, getting taxis and helped us book a cruise along the coast, which was awesome. It was a perfect ending to a two week stay in Italy.

The location and pricing for our group is why we booked here.

Travel tips

  • Book a boat cruise along the coast.
  • Spend a day in Amalfi.
  • Eat at the Restaurant Al Pesce d'Oro as the food was amazing. Also there was a restaurant called Restaurant Marina Grande by the docks in Amalfi which also the food was delicious.

Best ever experienced

October 2022 - Our group included my wife her three siblings and their spouses. Each couple has traveled a great deal and some extensively. Without exception each couple indicated that the trip to Italy and especially to Villa Borgo San Michele was the best they have ever experienced.

The facilities were conducive to exhilarating views while being so comfortable for gatherings while having multiple outside terraces allowing for solitude reflection of the view before you.

Everyone, without exception, was so accommodating.

If anyone is entertaining going to the Amalfi Coast this villa should be on your list of places to stay. Summer In Italy was one of several sites I visited but seemed best equipped to provide what we needed. Local knowledge was a key in that determination. Thanks to SummerinItaly and the owners of the villa for making this a trip an experience to remember.

Travel tips

  • Make sure you establish a relationship with a taxi service to assure availability. The owners have references and the drivers will provide their personal contact information to assist in your transportation.

Highly recommended.

August 2019 - Truly beautiful home and location. The views were unbelievable. The rooms were air conditioned, clean and big.

It felt like we were truly experiencing Amalfi without the touristy feel. There’s even a market on the hill and a great little bar across the street. Highly recommended.

Travel tips

  • Cabs tend to charge a lot to take you up and down the hill into the town. So buy bus tickets from the little bar and get the bus right down the block. Incredibly easy. Same thing going back up.

Perfect for us!

March 2019 - We were a group of 8 and found Villa Borgo San Michele perfect for us. All the bedrooms were very good, which is unusual in a group share situation.

We found the location, just outside the town of Amalfi, to be perfect for visiting other areas on the coast, plus it was not difficult to walk or take the bus into town (you must enjoy walking to make the walk).

The owner, Romolo, is an excellent host.

Travel tips

  • Great coffee at the small tabacco shop from which one buys bus tickets.
  • The mini mart is also very near - but make sure you shop in the morning.

July 2018 - SERVICE, HOSPITALITY, SERVICE, HOSPITALITY, SERVICE, HOSPITALITY!!! If you are looking for an elegant villa on the Amalfi Coast, with breathtaking views, beautiful interiors, comfort, and easy access to everything, you will get that, and a lot more with Villa Borgo San Michele.

First you have to know that if you rent this villa you are getting way more than a luxury dwelling. There is a family restaurant associated with this villa and I think we ate 5 of our 7 meals there. The restaurant has great food, service, and gorgeous views.

You will also be getting first rate service by Romolo, the villa manager. Romolo made our stay effortless and enjoyable. Aside from serving us breakfast and taking us in his car to the beach one morning, he was there to help, guide, direct, deliver, and just in general make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I can't imagine the schedule this guy keeps but he was always calm, professional, and greeted us with a smile.

One of our party showed up on the first day with an undiagnosed broken foot that had happened on the morning of departure. When we checked in on Saturday afternoon, Romolo asked if there was anything we needed and we said, yes, a pair of crutches. An hour later there were crutches at our villa. About three days into our stay we realized that the foot was worse than we'd hoped and we needed a hospital. We called Romolo to ask where the nearest hospital was and he said, wait, I'll be there in ten minutes. He picked us up in his car and spent the next four hours with us at two different emergency rooms, (the first didn't have an orthopaedic surgeon), translating for us, navigating the process of having a broken foot diagnosed and treated, filled our prescription, and delivered us back to the villa where we continued to have one of the most memorable holidays ever.

It is impossible to overstate the friendliness and hospitality that comes with this beautiful villa. And by the way, the pictures, as beautiful as they are, don't justify this place. It made our vacation so much more than just having a beautiful home, in one of the most beautiful places in the world, to stay in for a week. If I had to sum this up I would say that my take on this villa and it's owners is that they try, in any way they can, to make this experience as enjoyable as possible. It's way more than just having a great place to stay for a week. This was not our first time to the Amalfi coast. It was, however, our most enjoyable.

Fantastic

April 2018 - Our family spent a week at Villa Borgo San Michele in April and we loved it. The villa is in a beautiful, quiet location overlooking the sea and the views are spectacular.

The villa itself is well appointed and cared for with a spacious and well equipped kitchen.

The area was great for hiking and exploring the coastal towns. Our weather was mostly rainy, so we weren't able to take advantage of the exceptional outdoor spaces... the only downside to the villa is that the living room is not a very comfortable place to gather when the weather outside is miserable.

You have been wonderful to deal with from the time that we made the first inquiry until now... thank you so very much for your kind attention to all of our questions and needs.

Travel tips

  • If you're planning on cooking while you're there, it's worth picking up groceries before arriving along the coast... we drove from Rome and did a major grocery shop in Pompeii. There is a small grocery store about a five minute walk from the villa that has some basic supplies.

August 2017 - Villa Borgo San Michele is very impressive with it's tiled floors, five bathrooms and bedrooms, lovely garden and pleasant views.

There are plenty of walking paths, up or down only!, from the door or there is an option of using the bus service. It is within walking distance of Amalfi and Pogerola, for the energetics - approx 25 minutes along a spectacular path or it is possible to walk to the nearest beach, about 15 minutes and take the water taxis - every 30 minutes, or take a bus.

The backup from the villa's owners was perfect and we were warmly welcomed.

A car is unnecessary as the public transport is adequate and the Italian style of driving makes the TT races look timid.

The service from Summer in Italy was perfect and the information received very well written and useful.

October 2016 - Our stay was great.

We did have some trouble with communication and had a hard time telling Sofia's son-in-law (whom we loved by the way) about TV not working and running the wash machine and very slow drain in one of first floor baths. Those were minor annoyances, however, and we ate at the owners' restaurant several times and were treated like family. We loved Romolo and his little family. That part made the trip so much more personal and fun.

Breakfast on the upper patio was breathtaking.

It was a trip of a lifetime for us. Thank you so much.

We found the villa on summerinitaly.com and had had a recommendation for that site from our daughter.

Travel tips

  • Do not let minor things get in your way.
  • Take tips from Romolo for special sites.
  • Drive if you can as you spend more time seeing and less time waiting for buses.
  • Bus to downtown Amalfi is fine and regular.
  • See all the towns you can. Each has its own wonderful flavor.

May 2016 - Very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Borgo San Michele. The owners were very helpful.

The Villa is quite far from Positano but the excellent bus service is right outside the door. It's not the greatest place for kids but excellent for a group of adults.

Travel tips

  • There is a great little market store just a bit up from the villa, we didn't find this till the last couple days.
  • Buy bus tickets at the Tabacchi, just down from the villa.

February 2016 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Borgo San Michele. The view was fantastic and there was plenty of space for our family.

The owner was very friendly and was very attentive in trying to remedy our first day issue of no hot water and no heat (no discount, but, they did send pizza for dinner one night).

The steps to and from the closest road were not an issue at all (around 30 steps in total), the 338 steps down towards the sea and the main road were an adventure (we took the advice of prior travelers and brought our flashlights). We made one round trip to dinner at Ristorante Pesce d'Oro and back, and also once up from the bus stop since we could not find a taxi in Amalfi.

There is a local market within walking distance that was very helpful and more than adequate.

Summer in Italy was a wonderful resource. They were very helpful and very prompt with responses. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • We would recommend a car if you are staying at this Villa. Although the market is within easy walking distance, the local bus stop is not reliable and the main bus stop on the main road requires a trek down (or up) the 338 steps. In addition, the night time taxi service from Amalfi (which is not within reasonable walking distance) is unreliable and/or non existent. [this mostly apply to the winter season]
  • The villa itself is very adequate. One shower in the upstairs bathroom would not be recommended, nor easily used, by adults. So, plan on sharing your bathroom if you are in the two top floor bathrooms.
  • As the Villa is spread out on numerous floors, it allows for a lot of privacy, but it not overly conducive to spending time together as a group. There are certainly pros and cons to the layout.
  • If you are travelling in the off season, the boats/ferries do not run from Amalfi so plan to spend a fair amount of time driving or taking public transportation. The distances can be deceiving as the roads are VERY windy and you cannot go very fast at all. For example, via car, the drive to Sorrento is at least an hour. And, by bus, at least 1 1/2 hours.
  • We hired a car transfer to and from Rome (Claudio from Amalfi Coast Car Service) and he was perfect! We would highly recommend his services.
  • We booked a cooking class in Sorrento, a mozarella factory tour in Piano Sorrento and a personal guide for Pompeii through Ciao Laura and would highly recommend all three.
  • In addition we had fun exploring Amalfi (visiting the cathedral, the paper factory and local eateries and shops), a quick trip to Positano (not much open in the off season), a carnevale experience in Maiori, an afternoon in Ravello (breathtaking) and a wonderful visit to Pompeii.

October 2015 - There were 8 of us, all having traveled to Italy before, but never to Amalfi. The villa was great, comfortable and the views over the ocean with the full moon were exquisite!

I would suggest better showers in some of the rooms and fresh linens during the week would have been great, they are available but extra.

Traveling around the coast is a challenge and, although we had 2 cars, used private taxis and buses.

We took advantage of the owners restaurant, great, and he took us on a private boat tour of the coast, with the best lunch (meal) we had during our trip, at a unique seafood establishment Conca dei Marini run by fisherman. The fish was still kicking when we got there.

Overall, a great experience.

Travel tips

  • Arrange for the boat tour by Pasquale, out of sight.
  • Park your car and ride.
  • Negotiate fresh towels and linens [or ask our staff at Summer In Italy to do that for you].

October 2015 - We very much enjoyed our visit.

Parking might be a problem. If we had had 3 cars, as planned, it would have been a major hassle. I don't know how many spaces they have for garage parking.

Villa was very nice. Bus service worked very well.

Your job was very well done. We couldn't ask for anything more. And I asked a lot of questions.

Travel tips

  • Get a very clear picture of the cost of items and services that are offered rather freely at the villa.

October 2015 - We enjoyed the property. The villa suited our needs as it was very large and allowed for the 4 of us to each have our own bedroom and bathroom.

Pasquale, the owner, is a gem. He could not be kinder and more generous. We felt extremely welcome at the villa and dining in his restaurant. The welcome fruit, water and snack at the restaurant were perfect. Pasquale also gave us a nice departure gift - a ceramic plate from his restaurant and hot croissants to enjoy on our way to Salerno and our car pick up. The walk to the restaurant includes 363 steps followed by about 1/4 mile walk.

The Villa is pretty isolated and while a car would be beneficial to get from the property to Amalfi, once in Amalfi the car would not be needed. The SITA bus stop, while close, is not all that convenient as the schedule is erratic at best. Most town residents, who waited with us at the stop, were eventually offered rides by other residents which we felt was a further testimony to the irregular schedule [not necessarily... in a small town where everybody knows each other and many locals don't even bother having a car it's just a matter of courtesy]. We spent a good bit of money getting back to the property from Amalfi. After dinner and at night, we were at the mercy of the taxi drivers, so fare prices up to Villa Borgo San Michele were not consistent. We also recommend that any future guests take a flashlight to get up and down the 50+ steps from the villa to the main road. The steps are irregular, slippery from rain or spent fruit and there is no lighting for most of the path until you reach the motion sensor directly at the terrace of Villa Borgo San Michele. 2 of the 4 of us lost footing and fell. Luckily, there were no injuries. On our second night, we did purchase a small flashlight and took turns navigating the steps 2 by 2.

September 2015 - The views were spectacular. The Villa had plenty of room for 4 couples.

The kitchen was adequate. The outdoor terrace was exceptional nice, especially with the view.

The owners' friend Bonita was a big asset in helping us to make daily arrangements. The owners' restaurant was very good, both the food and the service was excellent.

Did we enjoy it... YES!

Travel tips

  • Plan on taxi service into the main town of Amalfi.
  • Take a boat cruise to both Positano and Capri.
  • Check the temperatures for the weeks you are staying as there is no AC in the villa.
  • Take advantage of the owners restaurant it is worth it.

July 2015 - We had a wonderful experience at this villa. It had plenty of space for our group with beautiful views from 4 different outdoor places on the property, as well as the four main bedrooms.

We loved having Bonita (the villa rep) give us a thorough orientation (in English!) to Amalfi and surrounding areas. Her advice and assistance was great. The owners were very friendly and even dropped off fresh vegetables and croissants a couple of times!

Travel tips

  • Bring mosquito repellent, although some of the windows did have screens.
  • We had a car, but you could certainly survive without one due to the bus stops very near the villa (it is a couple of kilometers out of Amalfi central).

April 2015 - We had a great time at the villa. The view is out of a story book.

The bedrooms and baths were well equipped as was the kitchen.

All in all we were very happy with the villa and would definitely return but would choose a warmer climate. The grounds and veranda were incredible but due to the cool weather, much of the time was spent indoors when we were not out and about.

We could have used more heat, which seemed to work OK in some parts of the house but not well in other parts. Because we were indoors a lot, we felt that and the living room/dining room needed some comfortable couches.

The owners were very friendly and made us feel at home!

Travel tips

  • The villa is beautiful but is best rented when the weather will allow you to enjoy the beautiful grounds.

October 2014 - The villa has an excellent view and is perfect for a group due to the individual suite bedrooms, large enough for everyone to have space when needed. Yet wonderful big spaces to be together.

I would book with Summer in Italy again, all the information given was right on.

Travel tips

  • Be sure you know how you are getting home from anywhere once bus service stops, taxi's from Amalfi are very expensive and you will not want to walk home on the road.

August 2014 - We enjoyed very much our stay at Villa Borgo San Michele.

The villa is large, comfortable and well equipped. The view is really beautiful too.

The owner was very nice and helpful. He gave us all the instructions for the use of the villa and even helped us in finding a parking space... Thanks.

Everything was OK with Summer In Italy, many thanks to all the team. We'll be happy to use your services again for our next stay in Italy in 2015.

Travel tips

  • The villa is a little bit far from the beach (roughly 1 km / 0.6 miles) also considering the hilly conformation of the coast...
  • It's very interesting use boats during your stay to visit the coast.
  • Find a parking space for your car might be challenging. Don't hesitate to pay, if necessary, to have a parking spot reserved even if it's a little bit far from the villa.

July 2014 - My group had a fantastic time at Villa Borgo San Michele.

The villa was large, had a great terrace and sun deck.

The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and plates and easy to use.

The villa is located a few kilometers south of Amalfi. Although the bus stops just outside the villa, I would recommend renting a car. Although the roads are windy, if you take them at your own pace, it's really not that difficult. The buses run at limited times, especially late at night and on Sundays. Having a car makes travel a lot easier and more leisurely.

August 2013 - Villa Borgo San Michele far exceeded our expectations. Firstly the location and views were perfect.

The villa as described on your website is without any hesitation fabulous. It is ideal for a holiday in Italy both for a family or a group of people as you can access the outstanding Amalfi Coast with ease.

On arrival we were greeted by Sofia and her son in law Romolo. We were shown around the villa and Romolo took great time and care to explain how all appliances and facilities in the villa worked. He also explained where the local shops, beaches and restaurants were and invited us to dine in the family owned restaurant which was one of the most memorable dining experiences of our holiday.

We were a group of 7 people and our holiday in Villa Borgo San Michele was one of the best holidays we have enjoyed as the villa has plenty of space, and is beautifully decorated. We cannot express enough how Romolo went out of his way to ensure our stay was perfect. We were made feel part of the extended family and had the great honour of sharing in his daughters 1st birthday party which was amazing. Pesquale, Rosario and Romolo made our dining experiences very special. The food and service was outstanding and do not miss this experience.

Summer in Italy were more than helpful in organising our holiday and the villa as described on your website was perfect. We would like to highly commend Elisa as she was outstanding on all aspects of organising our trip - we would certainly use Summer in Italy again.

Travel tips

  • Just simply enjoy the experience.
  • Parking can be a problem so we booked private parking and recommend you do the same through Summer in Italy.
  • You should book a car as we did not use public transport and the driving experience is not as bad as people describe and you will miss out on the amazing scenery along the entire coastline.
  • Beaches are a problem as you must go down at least 200 steps to access - we drove 15 mins approx to Maiori beach everyday as this beach is on the promenade and is easily accessed but you must pay for parking and the use of the sunbeds and this can be expensive during peak seasons.

September 2012 - We found the location of Villa Borgo San Michele close enough to Amalfi and other cities. Grocery store, church and vegetable stand very close.

Owners did not speak English, but our driver translated early on and a waiter at the owner's restaurant spoke excellent English. Giosi [the caretaker] helped us in many ways throughout our week and made the restaurant visits exceptional. The restaurant was pricey, but great for a special evening out. We did not eat many meals there.

Once you get the bus schedule down, your week will go well with no need to spend on drivers or rental cars.

The 700 steps to the beach and back gave us a good workout each day. Don't miss it.

The staff at Summer In Italy were excellent from the beginning to the end. You replied promptly each time I wrote and I was amazed at the customer service. I will use you again within the next year.

Travel tips

  • BYO face cloth, laundry soap and kitchen spices.
  • Go to center of Amalfi and get the bus schedule and buy tickets the first day. Once you get it, you will save. Tickets good for 24 hours. You might inquire about a 7 day pass.
