The miniscule Republic of San Marino has a wine-making tradition that goes back a thousand years. There were statutes written about vineyards and wine trading in the 1200s. The area's unique vintages are still produced in here, so be sure to stop by the Consorzio Vini San Marino while you're in the area to sample wine made from heritage grapes like Biancale, Aleatico and Ribolla. The reds utilize local Sangiovese varietals and are velvety smooth. The sleek tasting room is located in Borgo Maggiore, below the City of San Marino.
