Rocce Rosse Beach

One of Sardinia's most enchanting beaches is almost a mirage. If it weren't for the lapis-colored sea, you'd think you were in Arizona with the chiseled red rock formations that rise at the water's edge. These gorgeous rugged rocks are rich in iron and were sculpted by wind and waves to create a dramatic and picturesque backdrop to the beach.

The water sparkles, not just for its cleanliness but as an optical effect of the sun glinting off the pebbles below the water's surface. The Rocce Rosse beach is outfitted with a bar, restaurant and water sports. There is a parking lot, and the evening they turn on the music for dancing under the stars. It is also the scene of an annual international Blues festival.

This beautiful beach is located near Lotzorai, in the community of Arbatax.
