Without a doubt, the defining feature of Maratea is the towering statue of Christ up on the pinnacle high above the sea.
Located in the frazione of Cersuta, north of Maratea town, is a glass-floored "sky walk" that extends over the sea.
It’s easy to whiz by the sign pointing to the Grotta della Meraviglia, or Cave of Marvels, but you should go looking for it because the underground wonders really will amaze you.
Roughly the same size and shape of Capri's uber-famous Piazzetta, this one in Maratea is a bit more laid back and is officially called Piazza Buraglia, though everone refers to it as "la piazzetta".
The area known as Porto di Maratea is, of course, the actual boat marina (porto turistico) but also a hopping hamlet with some great restaurants and sidewalk cafes.
