Mappatella Beach

Located adjacent to the park known as the Villa Comunale di Napoli, this patch of beach is one of the city's most noted. Probably because, in a city on the waterfront with miles of lungomare (seaside walkway) there are very few beaches and access points to the water. Mappatella is city property, and therefore free beach, right in the city, near the Chiaia district and across from the Tennis Club Napoli.

It is off via Francesco Caracciolo, with some stone breakwaters to keep the water calm. It can get very crowded, especially on weekends but is definitely a glimpse of Neapolitan city life.
