A Taranto organization is studying the dolphins and whales in the Ionian Sea, and you can join them for a half-day!. The Ionian Dolphin Conservation is a marine research and conservation center, studying the marine mammals, the environmental impact on them, and their subacquatic acoustics of communications.

You can join them onboard their specially outfitted catamaran and watch as they work. It gives you the chance to get up-close to the creatures to see them and listen to their vocalizations, and watch as the researchers capture data, conduct environmental checks on the water quality and gather other scientific parameters, which are transmitted to the Ocean Biographic Information Systems. They also conduct whale watching excursions in the same manner. Another way to sustain their research activities is by adopting a dolphin.

You can reserve a dolphin or whale watching excursion on their web site. The catamaran leaves from Molo Sant'Eligio port in Taranto.
