One of Verona's major churches is the Basilica of Sant'Anastasia. It was started in 1290 on the site of an existing church. The Gothic-style facade is a unique feature of this church, the only one in Verona in this style. The simple exterior is faced in brick rather than adorned in marble or other prized stones. The only decoration on the facade is the five-layered arched portal and the lunette above it that features a painting of the Holy Trinity and portraits of St. Joseph and the Madonna.

Inside, however, is an enormous space outlined in massive marble columns that draw your attention to the soaring vaulted ceiling. Be sure to pay attention to the unusual, whimsical holy water founts! There are plenty of frescoes and sculptures to capture your attention, too.
