Would stay again

April 2023 - Casa Alata was a great place to spend some days on the Amalfi coast.

All in all, i would stay here again. We chose this place for the view and it did not disappoint! The view from the terrace was spectacular. Just be prepared for walking and hills!

Travel tips

  • The market is a short distance down the road. There is a seafood market about a 15-20 minute walk down the road towards Amalfi. This had a great selection of fresh seafood if you want to cook at the unit.
  • There is a coffee shop a few meters away and we used that quite often. There was good pizza about a 15 minute walk towards Amalfi.

Fantastic holiday

January 2023 - Casa Alata was a fantastic vacation home for us. We enjoyed every minute of our vacation.

The villa is about 2 miles outside of Amalfi. We walked into town each day for a meal and enjoyed the gorgeous walk. There is a small market very close that we purchased items for breakfast, etc... There is also a coffee bar just steps away. We hiked the Path of the gods one day (and navigated the public bus system which was not difficult). We hiked the trail that leads to the paper factory in Amalfi and that was my favorite hike of the trip. Breathtaking views of waterfalls, working mules, goats, old abandoned castles. That was a fabulous hike! Amalfi was a great town to explore and eat (outdoor eating for us as covid was very active at the time of our vacation).

The outdoor terrace provided outstanding views. It was a magical vacation for us.

We plan to book again for a month next time in Amalfi. We LOVED it!!

Travel tips

  • The roads on the Amalfi coast are a little treacherous for walking. We took the meandering path (take the stairs down from the villa instead of up towards the street) that paralleled the street. As you approach the clock tower, you can take the steps up to get to the market or take the very steep stairs down to as a shortcut to the Amalfi Coast Rd. From there, it is a delightful and scenic walk into town. That being said, the stairs down are about 5 flights of very steep stairs. We LOVED the challenge and appreciated that the return trip up got easier every day. Also, calories consumed were fairly guiltless with the walk.
  • We did not rent a car but used a transfer service to get to and from the airport and we also booked a private tour of Pompeii and the Amalfi coast.

Good

August 2022 - We did enjoy the apartment, its position was good.

The service from Summer In Italy was excellent. Having travelled extensively I would give you 5 stars.

Travel tips

  • Nearby shop for all your basic needs is just 100 metres away.
  • The traffic is very busy and parking is also very difficult and costly if you find it hence we used the bus as much as possible. Buses are very regular.
  • Buy your tickets from the Tabacchi coffee shop about 50 metres from the apartment.
  • The bus stop is literally on the road bend, very regular and busy. Get bus to Amalfi town, about 2 km's away and at the bus station get a bus to any other town.

Fantastic

October 2019 - Casa Alata was great, really clean and well maintained.

The view from the terrace is beautiful and this is what we were looking for.

We did have a problem with the hot water system but after advising Summer in Italy by email, the owners had a maintenance guy out within half an hour to fix it, this was also in the evening, so well done.

The owners could not do enough for us, complimentary pizzas and wine from their restaurant. Also a ride to and from the restaurant if required.

An ideal spot for a base from which to travel the Amalfi coast, we really enjoyed our stay here. We even got used to the church bells.

Great doing business with you. Ciao.

Travel tips

  • We did have a car although this remained parked on the road for most of the 13 days we we there. We found the Sita buses to be very good and, despite previous information, on time mostly.
  • The two or three km walk to Amalfi was very easy and pleasant, although there are 300 steps down to the coast road before you start. This was ok but maybe not for the very elderly.
  • For those not keen on walking, a Sita bus from Pogerola stopped just down the road for an easy ride to Amalfi. On the half hour every hour.
  • Many things to do and see, but a highlight was when we hired a 6.5 metre runabout from Amalfi. Took this all the way along the coast stopping often for a swim or a snorkel. Went almost to Marina del Cantone and found a small cove where we tied up and went to Ristorante La Conca del Sogno. This was a brilliant place and a fantastic sea food meal.

A little bit of heaven

October 2019 - Casa Alata was a little bit of heaven. The apartment itself is beautiful, peaceful and very comfortable, well-appointed with everything you could need, spacious rooms, equipped kitchen, laundry, Wi-Fi and such. But the terrace is simply magnificent. We watched the sunrise, ate breakfast outside, enjoyed the warmth of the day, had cocktails outside, watched the sunset and the moon rise over the water with the sparkling lights on the hillside behind the house, and marveled at the perfect view of the Amalfi Coast.

The location roughly in the middle of the Amalfi Coast was perfect for sight-seeing in both directions and we were so pleased to have the garage across the street, as we drove everywhere. I would stay at Casa Alata again without hesitation.

The owners were very helpful and we took advantage of their offer to transport us to and from their lovely restaurant.

Travel tips

  • We loved the towns along the coast, the gardens in Ravello, the Cathedral Amalfi, the ruins at Paestum, and a day trip to Capri on a marvelous boat for about 12 people.

May 2019 - We were at Casa Alata for five days at the end of April. It is a beautiful location with great views of the sea. The decor was great.

We enjoyed eating at the landlord's restaurant. We walked down the many steps to the restaurant, but fortunately, his son brought us back by car. The restaurant will also deliver. Pizza delivered was terrific.

The casa is on a bus line, however, be sure to get a schedule.

We greatly enjoyed it and would do it again.

One note -- do not drive a car on the Amalfi coast unless you have experience as a Gran Prix driver.

Fantastic

September 2018 - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Alata immensely! Having reviewed hundreds of properties in the area (using this site) we finally settled on Casa Alata and we were absolutely thrilled with our choice. We were dying to get in so that we could appreciate the view that we'd dreamed of and were not disappointed! Exquisite! We awoke every day at sunrise so as not to miss the magnificent sunrise and then enjoy our breakfast on the terrace.

The home is charming, immaculately clean and quiet. The sounds of a working town and the churchbells were ever present, but it only added to the allure of Casa Alata.

One tiny disappointment: the owner was over an hour late in meeting us for a strict 4 pm rendezvous. When he finally arrived, he laughed it off a bit... not impressed. We called in advance 3 times to reconfirm the time and place. In fairness, his family did bring us fresh baked 'cornetti' on two occasions - our first and last mornings! So, all is forgiven!

Our friends were a little jealous, I think, when they saw the lovely home and incredible views that were ours for the week! I would return in a heartbeat.

We will continue to book with Summer in Italy as the level of care and professionalism were outstanding.

September 2017 - We (2 couples), thought Casa Alata was wonderful. The evening sunset and the morning sunrise... we delighted in both.

Most of our waking time at the villa, was spent outside on the patio (meals, reading, card playing etc.).

Travel tips

  • There is a small market within easy walking distance.
  • Two bus stops close by. It would have helped to have a bus schedule. We made day trips to Amalfi, Ravello, Capri, Pompeii, Positano. Morning buses were easy, return afternoon buses didn't seem to have a regular schedule.
  • There were no restaurants that we would consider close to the villa.
  • The walk (steps) were daunting for us older Americans, 70+.
  • The limit of 100 kilowatts was ample, but had initially concerned us.

August 2017 - Overall we had a wonderful time. Casa Alata lived up to the description that Summer in Italy provided. It was clean and really beautifully appointed. Minor issue was that the kitchen was quite small as we like to cook for ourselves when we can. Bigger cups would have been good - we are English! Saying that we managed very well.

The location was good and the local supermarket stocked everything we needed and more. Prices were reasonable and cheaper than the supermarket in Amalfi.

We were met on arrival by the property manager Romolo who was very welcoming, it is also worth mentioning that he also owns one of the local restaurants, and rustled up a much appreciated meal for us (we were a very late arrival - 11 pm in the evening!) without being asked. He was extremely helpful and made himself available at all times for anything we needed.

You should also be aware that Casa Alata is in a village and as such you should expect the usual noise associated with this sort of location ie barking dogs, local workmen, church bells ringing, although it did not detract from the pleasure we had from being in such a beautiful property offering the most spectacular views of the coast and sea below.

We would highly recommend this property!

Thank you for making our trip to Italy one of the most enjoyable trips we have made. The service that Summer In Italy provided was second to none, you were extremely friendly, helpful, courteous and very, very efficient. All my questions were answered fully and very quickly, and your website is both useful and informative making the planning of our trip stress free and easy.

Having found you by chance when I was searching on the internet, I would have no hesitation in using you again in the future. I will also be recommending you to my family and friends.

Travel tips

  • We had no need for a car whilst we were there and found the buses very good and easy to use, but be prepared for the lack of consideration when queuing, as the Italian concept is very different and seemed to be based on the size of your elbows not where you are in the queue!
  • We would recommend that you have a taxi to and from the airport if you are flying into Naples (220 euros for a return journey x 4 adults with luggage). We used 'Click' Airport taxis, who were fantastic, especially as we had a problem with our connecting flight which resulted in us arriving much later than originally planned. The driver, Tony was friendly, knowledgeable and very keen to speak to us in English. We also used them again for our trip to Pompeii.
  • Amalfi, although very busy, is a beautiful town with a magnificent Cathedral which you should visit.
  • As well as Amalfi, you should also visit Ravello which can be reached easily by bus from Amalfi.
  • If you buy a day ticket it will give you unlimited bus travel for 24 hours which includes using the 'Sightseeing' bus if needed. All bus tickets have to be purchased before you travel and can be bought from shops displaying a SITA sign.
  • Capri was beautiful, but will set you back about 50 Euros per person. It is a very very busy island, so either take the Funicular up to Capri Town or take a taxi up to Anacapri (which will cost around 25 Euros) and is a much quieter area and just as beautiful. The taxi's are unique! and the drivers will also offer you a guided tour. However if you have the stamina, just wander at your leisure, enjoy the sights, the atmosphere and the ice cream!!!!
  • Pompeii is also a 'must see'.

May 2017 - Casa Alata was an excellent villa, with great facilities.

The owners are very helpful and even delivered a pizza one night free of charge. If you use their restaurant they are more than happy to drive you home.

Overall a great villa and we enjoyed it very much.

Travel tips

  • Casa Alata is a great villa, bus stop very close.
  • It's a good 1/2 hour walk into Amalfi town so you need to get the bus for return journey as it is a bit of a hike. If you want to enjoy the town late into the night you will need to get a taxi home as buses don't run past about 9 pm.

October 2016 - Opened the door to a wonderful and luxurious villa with superb showers, worth washing for, and a balcony with stunning views of the sea and coastline. However the immediate vicinity, you must bear in mind, is quite rural so do expect all the noises of daily working life.

You will need a car to drive to restaurants in Amalfi or along the coast.

August 2016 - We loved Casa Alata. The view was astounding and we loved the huge terrace and the high ceilings and the spectacular tiled flooring.

It was very useful being so close to the supermarket and bus stop and a very pleasant half hour stroll into Amalfi.

The beach was a bit of a hike, but that's typical for the Amalfi coast and was well worth it because the beach was quiet and the water clean.

It was very nice to have the towels changed so regularly and not just once a week.

Delightfully quiet.

I enjoyed all your friendly e-mails and the information for finding the apartment, etc. was excellent.

Travel tips

  • We really enjoyed The Walk of the Gods from Bomerano to Nocelle (it took us 3 hours and is scary in parts) and also a good walk just above the apartment to Lazzaro and Castle Lauretano. From the castle you can see the apartment, but you are so high up you can hardly bear to look.

May 2016 - Excellent accommodation, we could not find a single fault with it.

Bus service to Amalfi only a couple of minutes away. Adequate supermarket on doorstep, not forgetting the little old lady's veg shop next door.

You do get used to all the church bells - every quarter of an hour - by the time you leave!

The walk down the steps from the apartment to the main road and the beach is rather steep, but enjoyable when you get there.

The owners of the apartment have the local restaurant - it's beautiful sitting on the terrace. The owners are fantastic, even driving us back up the hill to the apartment when we were caught in a torrential downpour and appeared at the restaurant as drowned rats!

Your prompt attention to all our e mail questions was excellent, even down to the bus timetables!

Travel tips

  • Get a price well before you travel from the companies recommended by Summer in Italy (our quote arrived too late) as the local taxi companies are expensive for journey back to airport.

May 2016 - We had a wonderful stay at Casa Alata. The property exceeded our expectations. Everything was clean and new. The view from the terrace was stunning.

The owner, Sofia, was very accommodating. She does not speak English and our Italian was close to nonexistent, but that was not a problem. She had two English-speakers available (thanks, Maria and Romolo).

You guys were great. Thanks again for your help. Your website is easy to use with a lot of good information and excellent properties.

Travel tips

  • A day trip to Paestum is a good change of pace. The Greek temples are straight out of Athens.
  • We really enjoyed the beach of Santa Croce. It is a fairly rocky beach, but there are two good restaurants there. We had one of our best (and cheapest) meals in Italy at one of them (the one closest to the steps, but I hear the other is also good).

August 2015 - Casa Alata is beautiful. The views are amazing and we never grew weary of sipping cold wine overlooking the stunning Amalfi coastline.

The rooms were clean and immaculately decorated.

There was some confusion with paying for the cleaner and for the electricity and we felt that it did dampen the end of the holiday, but Pasquale, the owner was a gem!

I would recommend Casa Alata for couples and families who want to relax!

I found Summer In Italy amazing. Very easy to use.

Thank you Katie for a great review, and for giving us the opportunity to point out something that is very important for us and for guests who book with us.

Here at Summer In Italy we have the good habit of negotiating the best conditions for guests who book with us. Owners often charge local expenses, but we work hard to have those included in the rental rate in most cases. Since only guests booking with us are entitled to the most favorable conditions, from time to time confusion might arise -- but no worries: we thought about that!! As a matter of fact, in the rental voucher we give you to bring with you to Italy, on page 3, we list your very special conditions. All you have to do is to show it to the owners, that's it.

What happens if you don't have the rental voucher with you? Nothing to worry about: just ask the owners to give us a call. We have a copy and will tell the owners what to do. We are here for you!

Travel tips

  • I wouldn't recommend renting a car. There is no need as there are buses running by the house.
  • I would recommend going to the Pesce D'oro restaurant nearby as the food and service and food is out of this world and the manager and staff were the nicest people we met.
  • I would also recommend Gerry's pub which is up in Agerola and can be reached by bus.

Fantastic

May 2014 - We loved Casa Alata. It was perfect.

Casa Alata is a beautiful bright, airy and spotlessly clean apartment. The living room is big with double doors leading onto a very large terrace. The view from the terrace is amazing and it is equipped with very comfortable sun loungers. Both bedrooms are large and bright with comfortable beds. The fact that you walk through from one bedroom to the other is not a problem as each bedroom has doors leading onto the terrace. There is a utility room with a good washing machine and a clothes rack for drying clothes.

The Amalfi Coast was for us the holiday of a lifetime. The local people were so friendly and even though we were only there for 1 week we felt at home. I would love to come back sometime and would recommend Casa Alata to others.

Luca what can I say! Molte Molte Grazie to you and the girls at Summer In Italy. It was brilliant dealing with you. The girls are so helpful and answered our queries promptly. Nothing was too much trouble. When we return to Italy I will use your company again and recommend it to others.

Travel tips

  • Casa Alata is approx a 10 minutes bus ride from Amalfi.
  • You can get bus tickets in the little bar down the road on the left hand side. You can also have a drink there and feel part of the local community.
  • Don’t get a taxi. It costs about EUR 25 from Amalfi to the house.
  • There is a shop up the road opposite the church.
  • There was nothing in the house when we arrived so you will need to get everything.
  • The Sita bus from Sorrento dropped us near a restaurant where we had the fabulous cannelloni.
  • Don’t be put off by the outside of the house as you approach it. It just needs a coat of paint!

September 2012 - We rested in Casa Alata in the middle of September 2012. I guess this is the best apartment (for small groups) on this side of the mountain.

Plumbing is new and clean, nice furniture, especially in the living room, beautiful tile on the floor. The bedrooms are large, the beds are comfortable. The kitchen is small, but it has everything you need. Large terrace, amazing views on the sea and surroundings.

The hosts are wonderful, hospitable, I want to thank Romolo [the caretaker], a very pleasant man who always helped us, if there are questions and problems of everyday life, he very quickly solves it.

In general, we have only pleasant memories from Amalfi and from nice people who love their guests.

It was really nice to deal with you. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • I advise this apartment for small groups up to 4 people. For large groups there is a large villa on the terrace below Casa Alata, Villa Eufemia. I think it is also wonderful and this villa has its own garden.
  • There is a very good restaurant close to Casa Alata. The owners make transfer from the restaurant to apartments in the evening. There are a very pleasant hosts and delicious pizza, which we were treated, bringing directly to the apartment. Once the restaurant owner even brought us croissants in the morning.
  • It is more convenient to rent a car than to use public transport.

September 2011 - We cannot say enough about our stay at Casa Alata. Romolo, son in law of the owners ,and the entire family, couldn't have been more helpful and charming.

We even ate their restaurant twice, once for my husband's birthday. It was amazing and the food was terrific. Pasquale even gave me a large platter as a memento!

All in all, Luca, we will refer Summer in Italy to all we know and welcome returning to Italy in the future, using SummerinItaly, of course!!

Again, thanks for all your assistance in making this trip sooooo memorable.

Travel tips

October 2010 - Casa Alata was wonderful.

The location was perfect - bus stop and supermarket nearby. A 20 min walk into Amalfi usually took longer because the view was so wonderful and one had to stop frequently to admire it. It is a good base to explore all the nearby towns like Ravello, Maiori, Minori, Praiano, Capri, Salerno, Vietri Sul Mare. Even Positano, Sorrento and Paestum.

Would use Summer in Italy again. They were very helpful and professional with the information and service provided.

Travel tips

  • Watch the ticket sellers for the bus. System works on a time basis - 45 min, 60 min, 90 min, 24 hr etc. They will usually sell you something which is way longer than you need so be aware of how long your journey is likely to be.
  • The bathroom in the front bedroom is very small indeed and the shower tiny. So if you are average sized and drop the soap, you have to open the doors to be able to bend down and pick it up!
  • No need for a watch - the church bells ring every 15 minutes and it doesn't take long to work out the system and hence the time. Wasn't a nuisance though.

September 2009 - We had a wonderful week at Casa Alata in September 2009. The house is beautiful, just as in the photos, with gorgeous tiled floors, high vaulted ceilings, very nice furnishings, and of course, the incredible views of the Amalfi Coast.

The bathrooms are newly redone, very clean, and have excellent water pressure. One shower even has a set of water jets from the sides, "good for washing your arms", according to our 3 year old son.

There is a washing machine (no clothes dryer - but hanging our laundry on a clothesline overlooking the Amalfi Coast was a treat), a dishwasher, and three flatscreen TVs.

The bedrooms have probably 20 foot vaulted ceilings - it felt like a church (in a good way).

The kitchen was fine, with pots and pans, utensils, cutlery, and a set of those great ceramic plates and bowls from Vietri.

Sofia, the owner, was really helpful, gave us advice for exploring the area, and hired someone to clean the house and change our towels every other day, which was more than we needed, but much appreciated. (Everyone in our family speaks Italian, so I don't know how much English she speaks.)

We were able to find parking close by, but usually took the SITA bus, which stops across the street every 30 minutes or so, to Amalfi, and from there, boats to the surrounding towns. There is a small grocery store up the street with an adequate selection, and free delivery, as well as a nice fruit shop a few doors up, and a tabaccheria a few doors down, where you can buy your bus tickets.

Next time we would probably chose to stay in a place closer to town so we could go for walks and out to dinner more easily at night, but overall we had a wonderful time at Casa Alata, and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in a beautiful, clean, quiet, spacious house on the Amalfi Coast.
