Salò
Salò is a lovely and lively town on the shores of Lake Garda, the gateway to the area known as "the lemon coast". A pretty lakefront and attractive historic center combine with a mild climate to provide an ideal vacation spot. Lake Garda offers loads of activities and nearby attractions, not to mention some of Italy's famous cities nearby.
But Salò itself will impress you with its alluring lanes and piazzas, elegant shops, and Old World atmosphere. There are plenty of trattorias and cafes, pretty palaces, and a botanical garden. There are some great beaches right there in town, not to mention a hopping Saturday market to enjoy. Outdoors enthusiasts can partake of hiking, fishing, surfing, canoeing, sailing, tennis and more. Culture seekers wlll like the palaces and churches. Don't miss the Romanesque cathedral and the Torre dell'Orologio (clock tower),. Two well-known palaces are Palazzo dell Magnifica Patria and Palazzo del Podesta', both now owned by the municipality, with a frescoed atrium. The Rocca (castle) is called the "balcony of the lake" for its impressive views.
You'll be close to San Felice del Benaco, a promontory with some of the lake's best beaches. Desenzio, Peschiera, and Sirmione are in easy reach, and the area's amusement parks, like Gardaland, Movieland and Rimbalzello Adventure Park aren't far. You can visit Brescia and Verona from here, as well.
