A fun, fanciful museum near Lake Como will delight kids, or the kid in you. The only museum of its kind in the world, the toy horse museum is dedicated to all forms of rocking horses and other equestrian related toys. It's a delightful bemusing sight.

You'll be greeted by Roberto, the world's largest rocking horse. Enter through the Garden of Wonders, a playground and park with a piazza and small amphitheater for plays, all attractive to children. Then visit the collections inside, with a host of rocking horses, tricycles, walkers and carousel horses. The Lehmann Collection is an incredibly detailed set of silk-screened tin toys, each a masterpiece of ingenuity and beauty. There are music boxes and paintings as well.

The museum is set within a former stables (of course!), that once housed a famed champion trotter named Tornese. It is located in the Chicco Village, a commercial zone of the Chicco company, a children's store. The founder of the museum developed the commercial area, but wanted to return the stables to the majestic horses - this time with a lovely theme and open to everyone.

If you're in Lake Como, this is a stop worth making, just a half-hour south of Como.
