If you're looking for a pristine beach in Puglia, head to the Riserva di Torre Guaceto. This protected marine area occupies a prime spot of undeveloped seafront that combines long sandy stretches with dunes and a lagoon along the rugged coast. Here you'll find a plethora of migratory birds and sea turtles, along with indigenous plants. Underwater there are coral stands and sea creatures to see.

The centerpiece of the park is the squat square Aragon tower built in the 1500s, once used as a lookout post, still sitting at the sea's edge. The Riserva di Torre Guaceto is a more interactive nature park than most - they offer a wealth of options for enjoying the great outdoors and the water, organized through the visitor's center located in Serranova. You can choose a cycling, trekking or snorkel tours, or a "trenino" tour that takes you a trip through the varied landscape in a lengthy golf cart. They also operate the Acquedemia diving center, with classes and underwater outings. Summer brings their astronomical "Museum Under the Stars" which combines star gazing with poetry and nature.
