One of the best ways to get around Lake Como is by water. It is a lake, after all! The views and novelty make it part of the experience, while the schedules make it a practical way to get around and avoid high-season traffic on the streets. There is a transit system by boats called battelli that offer an enjoyable way to visit different towns around the lake. There are dozens of boats serving 38 towns in a network of routes.

Car ferries travel between Menaggio, Varenna, Bellagio and Cadenabbia. In summer, there are occasional dinner and dancing cruises offered, and themed tours that you can take advantage of, as well.

As a "bus system" though, it's practical and enjoyable. Visit the website for timetables and prices.
