In Suvereto there is a different type of museum -one dedicated to a special doll collection. More than 50 dolls from the Maria Micaelli collection date from the 1800s through the 1980s with one-of-a-kind pieces. Some show the artisan skill of Italian doll makers and doll dress makers. The museum takes you through the evolution of costumes, styles and materials, porcelein and terra cotta, along with paper mache and more. It also illustrates some important moments in recent Italian history. The doll that is the symbol of the museum is Violetta, from 1921, inspired by the heroine of La Traviata, the classic opera by Verdi.
