Absolutely amazing

April 2018 - Villino Fortunato was absolutely amazing, my brother and I had the best time just chilling out for a week, taking in the incredible views and local cuisine! Could not have asked for a better place to stay - I will definitely be back!!

It was incredible, truly thank you!!

Using Summer In Italy was a fantastic way to find accommodation for staying on the Amalfi Coast, and I couldn’t be happier with our stay. Perfection! Can’t wait to come back.

Travel tips

  • Everything is so easy and within walking - local grocer for making your own meals, a fabulous selection of restaurants ranging in foods and all well priced!
  • Great for heading of on the Path of the Gods and too easy catching a bus to Positano, Amalfi, etc.

We really enjoyed our stay

October 2017 - We really enjoyed our stay in Villino Fortunato, and would recommend it to our friends and would stay there again! The house is very comfortable and safe, and the whole property is very quaint (terraced gardens, lovely terraces, goats...). It was just lovely! The only negative about Villino Fortunato is that the road out front is loud and a bit stressful to walk on. It is extremely narrow (you are essentially walking in the road) and the buses beep before going around the corner out front. The scooters are loud too. Fortunately, it was not a problem at night with the windows closed, and there is a second balcony for your use which is quieter. But with the windows open during the day, it is not as peaceful as you might wish it were. But, I would still go back!

The owners were very welcoming, kind and thoughtful.

The folks at Summer In Italy made arranging our stay here very easy. They were just great, wonderful! Thank you! They even assisted me with an issue with the apartment we rented in Paris (not one of theirs).

Travel tips

  • We loved the town of Praiano and are glad we chose this town over the nearby larger communities.
  • The "Walk of the Gods" is right behind this home, a hike not to be missed!
  • The beach on the other end of town is fabulous, we went twice.
  • There is a path that you can access from this property that goes along the back side of the town, so you can avoid walking on the road. We much preferred walking on this lovely path. Wear sturdy shoes, there is much walking to be done here and many, many steps! But, you have to work off all the delicious food some way!

Fantastic location!

August 2016 - We had a fantastic time at the Villino Fortunato. It is in a fantastic location! The house is excellent, in a great location with lots of fantastic restaurants nearby.

The owners are very friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect!

Summer In Italy have been very helpful, and most importantly, quick to respond to any queries throughout the entire process. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • The beach is a short walk away with grocery shops and bus stops also close.
  • You can explore Positano and Amalfi easily but after doing so we much preferred to stay in Praiano as it is much quieter and more relaxed. We would certainly stay here again!

Amazing stay

June 2016 - We had an amazing stay. The views are even better than the pictures. The location was perfect, we shopped daily at the fish market and butcher shop located nearby.

The owners had fresh lemonade in the fridge for us on arrival and one evening they brought us homemade desert.

Thanks again Summer In Italy for providing a vacation we will never forget. All the information you provided was precise and all the information and pictures on website were accurate. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • Use the Tourist Office located near the house, they are extremely helpful.
  • Luca and his wife at the local fish market are very friendly and will help you select something fresh to cook.
  • If you are in good physical condition you can hike the Walk of the Gods from Praiano.

Absolutely enjoyed every moment

June 2016 - Absolutely enjoyed every moment.

Icing on the cake were our hosts Raffaele, Marisa and Claudia who went out of their way to make us feel at home, answered every query we had, arranged a wonderful day for us to Capri, a transfer to Salerno at the end of our stay, and Marisa even provided us with some of her delicious homemade lemonade and baking.

Summer In Italy was very helpful on all fronts. A friend had recommended the web site to us and we would certainly use it again if visiting Italy - one day we hope to return to Praiano and Villino Fortunato.

Travel tips

  • Gavitella Beach (down below Villino Fortunato) is quieter and more charming than any of the other beaches we visited on the Amalfi Coast.
  • A couple of good and reasonably priced restaurants are within easy walking distance as well as a lovely little family run ceramic shop.

July 2015 - Wow, what a wonderful stay at Villino Fortunato.

The house is just what we looked for a stay in Amalfi Coast with great views over the sea, lots of sun and a cool retreat into the apartment when it gets hot.

Praiano was so beautiful, while Positano seemed over crowded; nice for a day trip, but way too busy.

We will be back.

The owners could not have been more helpful and made us feel so welcome on arrival.

Great friendly and helpful service. We will use Summer In Italy when we visit again.

Travel tips

  • Well stocked and reasonably priced general store nearby.
  • Praiano tourist information office is worth a visit, very helpful.
  • Apartment very near bus stop, with regular buses to nearby towns.
  • Local beach lido is worth a visit, great atmosphere with friendly staff, committed to ensuring you have a good time.
  • Local restaurants also good Italian faire, all with views.

June 2014 - We had a wonderful stay at Villino Fortunato.

We spent 6 days walking between the neighboring villages (Positano, Amalfi, Atrani, Minori, Furore) via the mountain tracks and 1 day at the beach (Conca) and the convenience of Villino Fortunato was perfect for both these activities.

The hosts Raffaele, Marisa and Claudia were wonderful - always friendly but never intruding. Thanks again for the home-made jam & the beautiful jam - tart Marisa, not to mention the beautiful lemon juice that greeted our arrival!

Great service from Summer In Italy - thank you.

April 2014 - We loved our stay at Villino Fortunato, spending a week there.

The view was beautiful along the Amalfi Coast to Positano and beyond to the island of Capri. Unforgettable sunsets, a veranda and a garden terrace to sit on.

Our very kind hosts spoilt us with Easter treats and Nonna's delicious marmellata was a hit! They met us when our bus arrived and guided us to our accommodation nearby. The owners made big efforts to make us feel welcome but also gave us privacy.

We would unreservedly recommend this accommodation to our friends. We have now travelled for six weeks and Villino Fortunato is our top accommodation in Italy.

Travel tips

  • Don't rush your trip to Amalfi. Enjoy the views, spend time relaxing.
  • Praiano is a quiet village with easy access to other Amalfi spots. You also have easy access to Amalfi walks.
  • The village of Praiano is quite unspoilt and the local people were friendly and welcoming. This is a place we would definitely stay at again.
  • Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the other towns but the peace and quiet of Praiano is great to return to at day's end.
  • Good restaurants, fruit/veg and groceries are available in Praiano.
  • Good bus links to other centers including Sorrento.
  • Ask Nonna for a sample of her marmellata!

May 2013 - A lovely villa, with everything you need in it, in a good location right at the beginning of Praiano, the owners Raffaele and Marisa were very nice, we had lemons and oranges and a bottle of water left for us and Marisa brought us delicious home made jam and lemon cake down to us during our stay.

Lovely views from the villa and garden terrace which is located the other side of the steps at the side which has a table and seat and a couple of sun beds to lay on, or you can sit in the deck chairs in the terrace at the front which also has a pretty table and chairs to eat outside.

We had a wonderful time.

Summer in Italy are a great company, very helpful, answered any questions we had very promptly. Would recommend you, Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Plenty of places to eat out also a couple of local shops to buy fresh local food if you wanted to eat in.
  • The SITA buses were always very full which made it a bit stressful as you couldn't always get on so we ended up going to the local taxi man who was very nice to us.
  • Be prepared to do a lot of walking! The 'Path of Gods' walk is a lovely walk to do - if you like steps.
  • Lovely small wine bar/restaurant just up the road, no proper menu but the owner will cook you some delicious food!

Good

March 2013 - We enjoyed staying at Villino Fortunato very much. It was well situated and luckily for us, the owner found us parking therefore making easy for us.

The owners were lovely. On arrival, as we got in late, they had a bottle of wine, a bottle of water and a small cake waiting for us. They answered our questions and told they were available if anything was needed.

The apartment has everything we needed including a washer and an iron.

The view from the apartment was beautiful. There were several restaurants and a grocery store close by. There was also a bus stop near the apartment.>Bus service was quite good.

I would recommend this villino.

I thought your service was good. I dealt with Luca and Andrea and both were helpful, and I would like to thank them. The information sent to me was good.

Travel tips

  • If arriving by car, parking is important.
  • There are several restaurants close by (walking distance).
  • There is a grocery store as well as a take out place.
  • Bus service is quite good and easier than taking the car.
  • We took the bus to Positano, to Sorrento and the train to Naples. Near the apartment, there is the "sentiero degli Dei", The walk of the Gods - which takes you on a mountain path all the way to Positano - takes 2 to 3 hours but worth the view.

Very good

October 2012 - We enjoyed our two week stay at Villino Fortunato, although there was some road noise which took a while to get used to. We had everything we needed at the apartment.

The owners, Marisa and Raffaele, were lovely. They provided us with fruit and vegetables on arrival, including luscious lemons from the garden. We were made to feel very welcome and had several gifts of home-made cakes and pesto from them.

The garden terrace must have one of the best views across the bay towards the Li Galli islands and Positano with Capri in the distance - and sunsets that are amazing as no two are the same. (Warning - our camera seemed to take hundreds of sunset photos.)

Summer in Italy provided us with a good service. Their website is very comprehensive, easy to use and full of helpful information, tips and recommendations. (We used their taxi enquiry link for our return to the airport and got a very good price from one of the companies.)

We would use them again when we next return to Italy.

Travel tips

  • Ear plugs would be helpful if you are a light sleeper - but the views are worth it.
  • The Vivaro wine bar, about 100 metres along the road, was our favourite eating place. It would be easy to miss it as it just has doors that open onto the street and it looks very 'unpretentious'. Once inside though the owner, who does everything himself from welcoming you to doing the cooking, gives you a memorable experience. There's no menu. He just talks to you to find out what you like, offers suggestions and then goes to cook - stopping on the way to select the perfect wine to match your taste and the food - and all at a reasonable price.
  • Ravello is a 'must visit' as it is breathtakingly beautiful.
  • Pompeii is stupendous. It's worth planning a whole day trip and doing lots of walking around the site if you are to see the bits that the coach trips miss.
  • The Duomo in Amalfi is worth a visit.

Fantastic

July 2012 - We really enjoyed our stay at the villino. Nice and clean living spaces, marvelous view from both garden and terrace. Some noise from passing traffic, but when closing the windows at night there was no disturbing noise whatsoever.

The owners are very nice and looked after us like "grandparents" giving us treats now and then. Communication was no problem, a mix of English/French and German did that we could always understand each other in some way.

There are quite a few steps down to the beach.

The personal approach of Summer In Italy made us feel special as customers, an excellent website which made it easy to choose and gather info.

Travel tips

  • Traffic can be annoying at some times (we were there during peak season) but won't disturb your night rest. When closing the windows it is quiet.
  • Use the local shops and produce! Groceries, fish and meat is only a few minutes away.
  • There are about 500 steps to the local beach, can be hard especially going up during midday heat [bus service and elevator are available!]. Time your beach trips, going down whenever, going up when its a little bit cooler.
  • Visit the nearby villages.
  • Rent a boat for one day or more, we found best price and service in Amalfi.
  • Count on a 4-5 hour commute if you are traveling from Rome with public transportation.
  • If cat-friendly, say hello to the neighbours cat, a yellow boy and he will come and visit you every night. If not ignore him and he will disappear.
  • Over all, you will not get disappointed. Enjoy!

September 2011 - My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our honeymoon at Villino Fortunato. So many places don't live up to the photos advertised on the website, but for this villa the photos simply don't do it justice!

The view from the terrace is spectacular as you wake up to the sun-bathed Amalfi Coast each morning, the apartment was beautifully cleaned and maintained and has a wonderful character.

The owners were particularly helpful and accommodating, and we were made to feel very welcome.

We thought the service that Summer in Italy provided was excellent, I only decided to book with you because I saw the apartment on a generic travel website and liked it. My wife and I would love to return to Italy, and when we do we shall most certainly be booking with Summer in Italy, for the quality of apartments you seem to provide, the friendliness of all your staff I have dealt with either by email or telephone, and your organisation and helpfulness in every aspect of the holiday. Many thanks,

Travel tips

  • It is a wonderful place to stay and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. The apartment is so lovely, as is the picturesque village of Praiano, that you won't want to visit anywhere else!
  • The restaurant La Strada, just down the road from the apartment was excellent for local food, particularly the red squid!
  • The walk down the fishing village Marina di Praia is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
  • All the local shops are good, and it is very easy to get the Sita bus from the main road to either Amalfi or Positano, which only takes 20-25 minutes and are definitely worth a visit. A wonderful holiday!

May 2011 - Villino Fortunato is a little villa big on charm and bigger on amazing views. While there is probably not a bad view along the Amalfi coast, the way the villa is situated facing the southwest affords views of both the Mediterranean and the vibrant Positano. One could spend a lifetime just sitting on the terrace an taking in the views!

The owners were very friendly and helpful; we had a couple of minor issues that were quickly resolved. Signore Raffaele and his wife also helped us out when a worker's strike prevented the buses from running from the Amalfi coast to Sorrento. Instead of the bus, we were faced with an expensive taxi ride over the mountains to the Napoli airport. Signore Raffaele gave us a ride that cost much less that the taxi and was much more enjoyable.

The town of Praiano is charming and quiet, with local markets and stores that provide any provisions you might need during your stay. We had the most fun just walking up and down the stairs and pathways that connect the neighborhood and commercial areas and meeting some of the local people.

There were several hiking trails around the Praiano area including my favorite, il Sentiero degli Dei which connect Nocelle (above Positano) to Praiano. It is a beautiful trail winding high above the coastline and offers spectacular views the entire way. There are even some vertigo-inducing parts of the trail that have sheer cliffs, making you feel like your trail is on nothing but a narrow rock ledge (which it really isn't as there are easily accessable ancient terraces above you to which you could retreat if you have a fear of heights).

All in all, a great vacation villa and perfect little town to use as a base camp to explore the Amalfi coast and entire Sorrento peninsula!

Summer in Italy did a fantastic job with the booking process and the pre-trip preparations. I would definitely recommend.

Travel tips

  • Get to know the SITA bus schedule, you won't regret it!

April 2011 - We had a great time in our stay at Villino Fortunato at Easter. We were helped by lovely sunny and warm weather. The apartment was very clean and had all the facilities we needed. The view was simply breathtaking.

The road through the village runs past the apartment at a lower level and can be noisy at times but you soon get used to it and we treated it as part of the local culture.

The owners live above the apartment and are very friendly and hospitable - they baked us a loaf on one day and a special Easter cake on another - both were delicious. They speak very little English but my very basic Italian got us by and this wasn't a problem.

Praiano is lovely and the apartment is perfect for a relaxing stay.

Travel tips

  • Driving can be challenging at times! Parking is also a nightmare - we had to park on the road a good 10 minutes walk away from the apartment and the same was true when visiting Positano and Amalfi. Public transport is good so I wouldn't recommend driving unless you want to travel extensively.

September 2010 - We very much enjoyed our stay. Very good location for exploring the area. The views from the balcony are exceptional. Some noise due to main road close by, but we quickly got used to it. Very quiet at night.

Only adverse comment is that public transport (bus) is not as easy as we anticipated. Buses are very crowded and often too full to take on more passengers.

You offered a good range of accommodation at different prices and locations. Competitive prices. Easy to use web-site. Useful links to property details. Very quick responses to e-mail. Clear and easy to use payment process. We were sent a lot of very useful information about the property just before we arrived. The instructions for collecting the keys were very clear.

Travel tips

  • Don't take a car (very difficult to park, very limited parking areas).
  • Use the boats to get along the coast - these are great fun and a good way to see the scenery.
  • Ravello is wonderful.
  • Avoid Capri - too crowded and the bus/taxi arrangements are a scandal. The chair-lift from AnaCapri is fun and the views are very good.
  • The Bar del Sole in Praiano is a great place to chill out and "people-watch".
  • The trattoria next door (overlooking the town square) is excellent - very good food and service.
  • The grocery shop near the small fountain is very useful - a good range of food, excellent fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • You must be fit enough to climb the steps and carry your suitcases up to the house.

July 2010 - Fantastic views from the terrace, very pleasant hosts. Praiano is a marvellous place to explore the coast from, smack in the middle of Amalfi and Positano but without the crowds and has a great bus service (SITA and the orange local buses), good bars, a few shops (best one is the local shop right next to the bus stop at the foot of the hill)and is quiet in the evenings with a number of good restaurants (Restaurant La Brace is the best - try the seafood or the steak!).

Villino Fortunato has absolutely breathtaking views up to Positano, it's simply furnished but has everything you need. There is a terrace available adjacent to the terrace which overlooks an amazing precipice actually over the main road.

Only drawback we found was that it can be a little noisy next to the road in the evening but after 8 pm it was pretty quiet. It was a great place and I'd definitely go back there.

Would rebook any time, great service and very well organised.

Travel tips

  • Best restaurant: Restaurant La Brace.
  • Best bar: Bar del Sole at the foot of the hill.
  • Best day out: Positano and ferry to Capri, Walk of the Gods from the top of the hill, bus up to Amalfi and Ravello.
  • Best thing about the villa: the never ending views that change every minute.
  • Ask to get off the Sorrento bus at Hotel Smeraldo to save carrying your bag up the hill. [We'll provide details along with your rental voucher, don't worry it's easy and you can count on us.]
  • Take plenty of sun cream, and whatever you do don't even think of hiring a car...

July 2010 - The setting and views were unsurpassed, and the convenience to the little supermarket and fishmonger was excellent.

The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the terrace was a real bonus as we spent many happy hours there enjoying the changing views. The beautiful outdoor table inspired us to buy one of our own.

The owners were SO friendly and extremely helpful in many ways. They will really go out of their way to assist you and it was lovely to be invited in for limoncello. A truly Italian family and experience.

Your help and advice, instructions to get to the accommodation, and your constant communication have been very helpful. We will be booking with you again when we wish to visit Venice and Florence, Thank you.

Travel tips

  • Very important to note is that all the shops close at 1 p.m. on a Sunday, so ensure that you have enough food and wine by that time.
  • The SITA bus is very punctual, but you should sit in the front of the bus in order to be able to tell the driver where you would like to get off if you are unfamiliar with exactly where you need to stop, as there are no signs saying which village you have entered etc!
  • Unless you wish to swim, the walk down to the "beach" is not worth the effort as it is not a beach but rather a little fishing harbour with a swimming area.
  • The traffic noise is very disturbing at night, as the road is right on your doorstep. To counteract this is simple to use earplugs, as the views and setting are really worth it all.
  • It is quite a physical challenge to actually catch the train from Rome to Naples, the smaller train from Naples to Sorrento and then the Sita bus onwards, so I would recommend that elderly visitors choose another option! [If coming from Rome, for the best mix between cost and comfort consider having a car with driver wait for you at the train station in Naples.]

April 2010 - In summary, this was a wonderful apartment, in a stunning location with truly charming landlords.

There is nothing that we would change about our stay at this apartment, except for perhaps the weather!

The apartment is spacious and extremely clean with a large terrace overlooking the amazing coastline. It commands stunning views from all windows and is situated in a quiet, friendly and small 'rustic' town with (at the time we visited) very few tourists.

Certainly, it is a little remote from the main tourist hubs from Amalfi, Naples and Sorrento but we had a car which meant a longer drive but the views were so stunning, the extra drive was more a pleasure than a chore. Even without a car, there are regular buses (every half hour in off season) that ply the entire coastal route and the stop is about as near as you can get to the apartment.

However, the highlight of the stay has to be the owners who live upstairs and went out of their way to help as much as possible including allowing us use of their salad garden and sharing a drink with us on our departure; truly a lovely and hospitable couple who own a lovely, cute and welcoming apartment.

Summer In Italy offered a wonderful service and kept me in the loop during the entire process, so thanks!

Travel tips

  • In Italy it is generally common to use one knife for all, and while the provided butter knives are good for general tasks you will need something sharper to slice bread and fruit: ask the owners upstairs.
  • Also, if you do have a car, note that this apartment does not have a dedicated space (although we were able to park in the hostels car park just below), but cars park along the road and when we were there in April, there was certainly no shortage of space.
  • Finally, take some time to explore the local restaurants: the pizzeria that was literally next door was truly delightful and great value for the food it offered.

Travel tips

  • The pizza restaurant down the road is excellent, I cant remember the name of the place exactly, but it is the one just 2-3 mins walk down the road on the same side as the villa and with quite a few stairs up to it...

July 2009 - Great friendly, helpful host. Very nice apartment with a fantastic view that we clearly would recommend to all our friends in Denmark.

July 2009 - This is a terrific location, a good combination of proximity to beach and shopping and transit, along with the dazzling view.

The proprietors are genuinely committed to providing a comfortable stay. Plus they are very nice people!

It's a well-equipped little apartment that is beautiful and clean. Favorite moment: sitting on the shaded balcony sipping limoncello, gazing at Positano in the distance and listening to the bustle of traffic hazarding the main road below.

I really appreciate the personal and prompt service from the staff at Summer in Italy, and will be using your service again, no question. I particularly appreciated the amount of reliable information about the suite and its location in the area. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • Along the main road just a few minuted walk you will find a fishmonger, a butcher, and the market (bread, cheese, deli meats, fresh fruit & vegetables, coffee, pasta, wine, condiments, and wine!).
  • A little further walk (we're talking under 10 minutes) you'll find an Internet cafe.
  • We tried the antipasto di mare at the pizza restaurant next to the church/square: stupendous!

June 2009 - We had a great time at Villino Fortunato.

The owners were lovely people. They were very welcoming and generous. They plied us with fresh fruit and vegetables from their garden and made us feel very much at home.

The view was spectacular. We would definitely return...

Thank you for making it very easy to organise a great holiday in Italy. Your services were very helpful and I don't think there is much you can improve on. Thanks again.

Travel tips

  • We spent quite a bit of time at the Bar del Sole. The people there were great and very friendly. Cheap drinks, great local vibe and a stunning view.
  • Across the road is a scooter hire place, which is well worth the money to hire for the day. The rides along the cliffs to Ravello and back to Positano will stay in my memory forever!
  • The little beach at the bottom of the hill is a great place to spend the day, reading, playing cards or just catching some rays. The guy there is extremely friendly and welcoming. In fact most people in Praiano were. It made our time there very memorable.

June 2009 - We really enjoyed our holiday in Villino Fortunato in May 2009. The apartment was absolutely charming. it is very tastefully decorated in traditional Amalfi style, clean, well-kept and has everything you might need during a holiday.

Our landlords, Raffaele and Marisa, were very hospitable, helpful and courteous. We arrived on Sunday afternoon when all food stores and restaurants in the town were closed. So, it was very nice of them to meet us with delicious homemade lemon cake, vegetable pie and home wine.

The house has a perfect location, on the most picturesque edge of Praiano, a town right between Positano and Amalfi. The villa is close to the center and all restaurants in Praiano, which is a striking contrast to crowded Amalfi and Positano.

Travel tips

  • I would definitely recommend staying in Villino Fortunato but beware of over 300 steps you need to walk up to get to the house from the beach. It was not a problem for us but could be challenging for some (may take the bus).
  • La Brace restaurant, 3 min walk from Villino Fortunato, was very good but in summer when more tourists arrive it is better to reserve a table in advance.
  • I would not recommend Taverna San Gennaro.

Unfortunately, Villino Fortunato can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
