October 2010 - Brilliant place to be and highly recommend. A very decent owner and perfect for peace and quiet.

Only difficulty is the hill, but what else would you expect for that coastline.

Travel tips

  • Make sure you are fit to get up the hill, or get a small car.
  • The bus service everywhere is fantastic.

September 2009 - As this was our first time renting a property overseas through an online agency, we were apprehensive. Truth be told, we cannot say enough to praise the owner of the villa or Summer In Italy.

First of all, the pictures do not do the property justice. We rented Villa Vanessa A, B, and C -- the views at the property are spectacular. Had we stayed in Sorrento proper, we would not have been able to see Capri from our balcony.

The property itself was spotless (just as pictured on the website).

We had various family and friends arriving for our wedding, and the owner helped everyone to feel comfortable and welcome. Thank you, Lorenzo and Maria, for making our stay so memorable and enjoyable. We hope for many happy returns to Massa Lubrense.

Thank you so much, SummerInIaly, for your professionalism and courtesy. All of our inquiries were met with prompt and friendly replies. We will recommend your services to our friends in the U.S. as you did a wonderful job with our reservation.

Travel tips

  • Make sure that you rent a car as there are many great day trips from the property (Ercolano, Pompeii, Positano, Amalfi, etc.).
  • There are some wonderful shops in downtown Massa Lubrense. Do not be afraid to venture into the small town -- it offers a special tranquility that cannot be found in Sorrento. Say hello to Ciccio and Dora at the cafe across from the butcher shop and make sure to get a "bomba con crema".
  • If you need to stock up on food supplies, there is an Auchan (ipermercato) about 30 minutes away in Castellammare di Stabia (Pompeii).

August 2009 - Villa Vanessa B was excellent.

Mr Lorenzo and Mrs Maria [the owners] were so nice and helpful to us. They gave us help, ideas and information... and great attitude.

Many thanks.

June 2009 - We had an absolutely wonderful time. The location was perfect and the view is just stunning.

We did have some electrical problems related to thunderstorms however Lorenzo the owner did everything possible. Lorenzo and Maria were lovely hosts.

The week's stay was not long enough to take in the surrounds of Amalfi and Sorrento. Since returning to Australia I still have withdrawal symptoms for the view. We would love to return. Please pass on our appreciation to Lorenzo & Maria

Travel tips

  • Go to the restaurant down the steps towards the beach at the end of the main street of Massa Lubrense.
  • Take a small car.
  • Use the bus to Sorrento, etc.

January 2009 - Our family really enjoyed the villa. There were six of us and we were all comfortable.

The villa had beautiful views, was well maintained, clean and in a great location.

The owner was very accommodating.

We hope to come back!

October 2008 - Great time, great place, well organised.

The owner is very welcoming.

Nice small village away from the major tourist places but close enough to visit.

Travel tips

  • Driving is a nightmare, I imagine peak season is so chaotic it is not even worthwhile. Huge traffic problems through places like Sorrento and Amalfi.
  • Don't hire a big car and get extra car insurance - roads are narrow and windy and drivers are mad!
  • Nice place in Marina for morning coffee and croissants - Funiculi, Funicula
  • Hire a boat and go out to Capri.

September 2008 - I love this Villa and we had all we needed to help make our stay very comfortable and enjoyable.

Mr Lorenzo [the owner] was great and really was very responsive to our needs. He really was great when we locked ourselves out (very sorry about that).

Thanks so much for everything.

Travel tips

  • Second time in Massa Lubrense, it really is beautiful around this area.
  • Do hire a car and take a drive along the Amalfi Coast, incredible views.
  • Be aware of cover charges at some restaurants as much as E2.50 per head in some places [yes, in Italy it is customary to add a "per person" charge for "pane e coperto", bread and cover.].
  • We enjoyed the trip to Pompeii and Vesuvius too.

October 2007 - The villa is a lovely peaceful spot with a spectacular view. It is very well appointed and had everything our family required.

The owner and his wife are lovely friendly people and couldn't be of more help.

The very large, spacious terrace is one of the best features and the interior is very fresh, light and clean. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and bathrooms are nicely tiled. There is a lot of storage space and all the bedrooms have beautiful sea views and french doors onto the terrace.

Everything went very smoothly. We would definitely use your company again. You provided an excellent service.

Travel tips

  • We drove from Naples Airport and due to the time of day, had to find the villa in the dark. The directions Summer in Italy provided for us were excellent and we managed to find our way to the village in the pouring rain and darkness. Quite an achievement for non-Italian speakers such as ourselves!

September 2007 - We loved it. Peaceful location, off the main tourist track just enough. Delightful accommodation with spectacular views. Spacious with massive deck. Great sunsets and views to the bright lights of nearby Capri and Napoli. Challenging but enjoyable walk to town. Would suit people with car or strong legs best. The area is great for experienced walkers. The path from Termini to the point overlooking Capri was a highlight.

The owner, Mr Lorenzo was extremely helpful. We were delighted by the cheery way he went about collecting us, explaining how things work and looking after our needs. A wonderful fellow!

Travel tips

  • Bring a car or strong legs to get to the bus stop.
  • Easy trip to Sorrento by blue Sita bus and from there the magnificent Amalfi Coast.
  • Great walk to the end of the peninsula from Termini.
  • Delightful chap with good English at the Alimentari in Marina del Lobra (local boat harbour).

July 2007 - I have stayed in the area many times and this villa rates as one of the best. One of the overlooked pluses is the parking.

The owners were very helpful the views fantastic.

We had great meals on the terrace when we decided to eat in. It was a great place for our grand kids also.

When I return I would not hesitate to stay there again.

I thought everything was fine. I will use you again in the future.

Travel tips

  • Loved renting a boat from Marina della Lobra.

December 2006 - We really enjoyed staying there and beginning of December it is also very quiet area (not sure if it is like that in summer time).

The Villa is clean and nice and the big terrace is something extra.

Altogether is is above average and very suitable for even big families.

Your organisation is doing a great job, everything was functioning very well, keep it up!

Travel tips

  • Even though the public transport around the area is working fine, car would be a good idea, but not a big car, because of the parking problem (I had a big car and had to wake one morning to remove the car when a truck tried to pass by).

September 2006 - Villa Vanessa B was even more beautiful in person than it was on the website. We rented it along with Vanessa C and had our whole family together for a week.

There was plenty of space, incredible sunsets, and an easy walk down to the sea for a swim. We could not get the outdoor grill to light but otherwise had everything we needed.

The couple who own the place are extremely nice, and she has great taste as far as decorating, linens, etc.

July 2006 - Villa Vanessa B exceeded our expectations. The view from the covered balcony was spectacular with Capri off in the distance. Every room opens out to the balcony which quickly became the common area to relax, enjoy our morning expressos and family dinners. The villa easily accommodated the 7 of us ranging in age from 15 to 73.

It's location halfway between the Amalfi Coast road above and the water's edge below provided a very peaceful setting, while offering the opportunity to walk to town for groceries or the occasional dinner out.

There is plenty to do in the area, including hiking, swimming, sightseeing and our favorite, renting your own Zodiac rubber boat for the day and touring coast and the Isle of Capri.

Enjoy it half as much as we did and you'll be planning your return trip before you leave.

We would book with Summer in Italy again. Your website is professional and likewise of all the people we interacted with.

July 2006 - The villa was beautiful and comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back some day.

The owners of this property in my opinion really know what they are doing.

Mr. Lorenzo and his wife were so helpful and accommodating... they made our stay very enjoyable. I don't think there was anything we needed that was not already in the villa...

I only had to reach Summer in Italy one or two times, I actually e-mailed about getting 2 travel cribs for the little ones in our party. Everyone was so nice and got me my answer very quickly. That was very much appreciated.

There is one thing that would have been nice for us... we had little ones with us and although the beach was down the street, it is not quite kid friendly... at least not for under 4 years old. We did eventually find a public beach with sand and an area for the kids to play... I would suggest especially for American visitors, a map or something letting them know where these beaches can be found...

Summer in Italy you were all great and I hope to contact you in the future for our return trip to Italy!

July 2006 - Villa Vanessa B is a wonderful apartment. It is spacious, comfortable, well maintained, well equipped, quiet and has a spectacular view.

The place was clean and tidy, and the air conditioning worked just fine.

The double beds are comfortable, whereas the twin beds are somewhat soft.

Our favourite place: the balcony!!!!

The hill up to the main road is very steep, and we wished we had rented a car...

Great website! Informative and easy to navigate.

June 2006 - It was very comfortable for our family of 7.

The unit itself was large enough to accommodate us and we had plenty of room to move around. Two bathrooms were a plus.

We never cooked dinner there but enjoyed breakfast and snacks and evening cocktails. The kitchen had everything we needed, small but well stocked with utensils and appliances including a washing machine in one of the bathrooms.

There was plenty of closet space in the hallway but only closets in 2 of the 4 bedrooms. So we really used the hall closets.

The road down to the apartment was steep and winding and narrow. It was a little difficult for our large van for 9 passengers but parking was the most trouble. It would have been no trouble for a smaller vehicle.

Overall it was a great place with a marvelous view!!

We would definitely use Summer In Italy again. The only disappointment was the reference to a beach. To a Californian it wasn't what we expect from "a Beach". But the location and view made up for it.

You are right! Beaches in the Sorrento and Amalfi area are of volcanic origin, usually made of fine gravel, pebbles and rocks. The "California-style" beaches made of golden sand are to be found in the Cilento area instead :-)

April 2006 - Loved the location of Villa Vanessa on the quiet side of Sorrento.

Nearby town of Massa Lubrense satisfied our food shopping requirements and all the nearby restaurants were very good.

Your website is excellent and all information was accurate.

April 2006 - We enjoyed our stay very much. The views from the villa were great and it had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

Lorenzo and his wife [the owners] deserve a special mention. They were both very friendly and helpful. Lorenzo went out of his way to help us when our car broke down, phoning the car hire company, collecting jump leads from a friend and getting us back on the road. We were very grateful

Friendly staff and good service. Satisfaction all round. Thank you

April 2006 - Villa Vanessa B was PERFECT for our needs... one married couple, two more adults and one teenager. Everyone had their own bedroom to snore away without bothering anyone!

The villa is nicely decorated with books to read, stereo to listen to and a TV if you want. Bathrooms are modern and bright.

The terrace, from which every bedroom opens on to, overlooks the Bay of Naples and the Isle of Capri. It was beautiful. The terrace was shaded but we enjoyed a few sun spots. We visited in late March 2006 so the blankets from the villa were wonderful to use to snuggle up with an early morning coffee and watch the sun come up and the ferry boats chug to Capri and back.

Our landlord was helpful with local restaurant suggestions and was available if needed. The holiday was perfect so we did not have to call on them.

The villa is located in a residential area midway down a cliff so the view is great. It was a nice walk to the pebbly beach below and while you could walk into Massa Lubrense we never did. It was a nice distance outside the hustle of Sorrento and the tourist hordes that must descend on the Amalfi Coast during the season. It is easy to get to and from everything you need to along the Amalfi Coast, Naples, Mt. Vesuvio, Pompeii, etc.

Summer in Italy was fabulous. The web site is easy to use, questions were answered quickly and efficiently by the staff. Your room selection was the best I have seen. I will recommend you to anyone visiting Italy.

Unfortunately, Villa Vanessa B can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
