Excellent

July 2015 - Villa Mariangela exceeded our expectations. The home was spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well located.

We loved the stunning views from the terrace. All of the bedrooms were equally nice and all had their own bathrooms, which everyone in our group appreciated. We were also happy to have the clothes washer, which we used regularly during our week long stay. The kitchen seemed well appointed, although we took advantage of the great restaurants in town and did not do much of our own cooking.

The house was located a reasonable walk from both beaches and from restaurants and stores. It was situated in a nice residential area that provided plenty of peace and quiet. We would heartily recommend it as a great place to stay in Positano!

Travel tips

  • Check out Positano kayaking tours with Zia Lucy and BlueStar boat trips to Capri.
  • Restaurants we liked included Da Gabrisa, Chez Black, Trattoria La Tagliata, Ristorante il Ritrovo, Ristorante Buca di Bacco.

Fantastic

September 2014 - Enjoyed Villa Mariangela very much, the view was brilliant and we liked being close to the top of the hill.

Summer In Italy - you are great with communication and I will use you again as I come to Positano every year for the last 12 years. So I will be contacting you again in the first part of 2015.

Travel tips

  • Location of the house is the best!!!

Very good

September 2014 - Really enjoyed our stay at Villa Mariangela.

It wasn't hard to wake up and enjoy breakfast on the patio with that wonderful view. Whenever we were there we sat on the lower patio (although it needs a more solid roof covering when it rains). The house is not 'spectacular' but you really only need somewhere comfortable to sleep as we weren't there often during the day. The beds were comfy and having your own en-suite for each bedroom was great as there were 5 of us.

Overall it is a central place to stay and we would definitely stay again. I'm guessing that Villa Mariangela would be quite popular.... We enjoyed it too.

We booked through Summer In Italy because another family member had a good experience with you and we can say the same. All people we 'spoke' to and made arrangements with were wonderful and easy to relate to. The service was quick, pleasant and hassle free... Thank you.

Travel tips

  • It is only a short walk (plus stairs) to the bus stop above the house and buses go to many places from here.
  • It is not hard to buy a ticket at the Bar Internazionale or corner store.
  • Small grocery stores are just as close as are fruit shops and an electronic store to buy overseas sim cards etc.
  • The choice of restaurants is varied and there are many within walking distance or by bus.
  • The tourist shops down on the 'beach' are quaint and anything you'd need is available.
  • We didn't have to go to a large supermarket or a larger town for anything.
  • You can organize day trips easily by ferry or bus or private transfer to many places.
  • We went to Capri, Pompeii, Praiano, Amalfi, Ravello and Sorrento easily, all in 7 days.

July 2014 - We did enjoy Villa Mariangela. The unit was great as there were 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with fantastic views.

Summer In Italy were very helpful with great follow up. I would recommend you to others and will use you again if coming to Italy.

Travel tips

  • If you come in by boat get the porters who are on the wharf to get your bags and deliver them to the villa, great service 10 euro per suitcase.
  • Bus from town almost to the front door.
  • There are many steps to & from the unit via the road.
  • Restaurants close are pretty good.
  • Look in advance at the weather if you want to do boat trips as if weather rough no boat service.

September 2013 - I thought it was wonderful. Loved the beautiful tile floors and the large terrace.

Travel tips

  • The best thing about our trip was Carla [the caretaker]. She did a great job of getting us reservations to the best restaurants and helping us with any questions we had. She also helped us with transportation to and from places as well as scheduling porters to help with our bags.

July 2013 - Villa Mariangela is pretty true to it's description. It's clean and the manager and owner are friendly. The view is beautiful.

We heard horror stories of people showing up to property either not to have a property or have it be totally different from pictures. Villa Mariangela was pretty close to what I imagined from the pictures. It was nice to have parking (a bit tight, but parking anyway) and not have to deal with looking for parking when we got there. Thank you for your patience with my emails and concerns. It was my first time booking thru the internet and I was very happy with Summer In Italy. I would definitely book with you again.

Travel tips

  • There are 100 steps up to the main road where there is a grocery store, fruit stand and Bar Internationale. Everything you would want for breakfast was available at these stores.
  • There are 700 steps down to the beach. This is to be expected as this is Positano.
  • Hit Fornillo Beach instead of Spiaggia Grande... quieter, nicer beach away from all the tourists.
  • Saraceno d'Oro and Mediteraneo are both great restaurants...good food, friendly service. Also Da Vincenzo...very nice restaurant.
  • If you follow the road down to the beach, there is a shoe shop tucked into a curve that makes custom sandals while you wait. Awesome!

July 2013 - We truly enjoyed our stay in Positano. Carla, the property manager was always available when needed and was quick with great recommendations for dinner. The villa was as advertised and the views were spectacular and cannot be understated.

The appliances all worked and it was wonderful to have our own washing machine, which greatly reduced the need additional luggage. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked well.

We had only a short hike for groceries and to Bar Internazionale.

My only issue was some construction going on above us that began prior to 8 am, but this was rectified by Carla and we did not notice them as we were out during the day and they were done by the time we returned each day.

The website is excellent and the descriptions of the properties very accurate. We were very happy with our stay. Would I return? Absolutely! This is one of the most beautiful spots on Earth and I feel privileged to have visited here. Summer in Italy is an excellent portal to a wonderful vacation and I highly recommend them.

Travel tips

  • The is so much to see and do it is difficult to choose. We loved our day trip to Amalfi and visit to Ravello, a pot everyone should put on their must-do.
  • We are active and relished the hike along the path of the gods beginning in the small town of Bomerano.
  • The beaches while rocky are clean as is the water. I'm a swimmer and the conditions were absolutely ideal in the month of July.

June 2013 - We stayed at Villa Mariangela with our two grandsons, ages 13 and 15. This was a perfect location for older children. They could run up and down the stairs to the shops, the grocery so they could buy their own gelato, drinks, etc. when they wished. They could easily take the stairs to the Fornillo Beach. It was convenient to the bus stop.

The view can not be matched. The terrace was our "hang-out" day and night. I enjoyed having a clothes washing machine that worked very well.

Our manager, Carla, gave us tips on dining and transportation. She was very helpful.

Summer In Italy had a large selection of villas and apartments of all sizes. It was not hard to find one that fit our needs. I thought the prices for rental were very good. We have rented houses and apartments in Europe before, and we thought that Summer In Italy made the process very easy. We would highly recommend the "Summer In Italy" experience to travelers.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared for lots of stairs, but, for teenaged boys, this was not a hindrance. It was fun and a challenge. We definitely walked off all those calories from the terrific food we ate in Positano.

Fantastic

May 2013 - We were warmly welcomed by the proprietor and his wife to this comfortable villa with a beautiful view.

Forget visits to the gym. A stay in this excellent villa ensures that the calorie intake from the wonderful Italian food is offset by one's exercise in getting to or from the villa as you go up 60 steps for the local shops; these include a general store, greengrocer, butcher and fishmonger. If you don't feel like cooking, you go down even more steps to reach two first-rate restaurants recommended by the proprietor.

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay.

September 2012 - It was truly a wonderful experience! Very comfortable and relaxing. Spectacular views!! The lady who greeted us was very kind and informative, with great advice on where to eat, etc.

Easy booking and all went well. Thanks!

Travel tips

  • The steps are daunting, but the view is worth it!
  • The folks at the restaurant Saraceno D'Oro could not have been nicer - plus, the food was great! This restaurant is also the place to get free wi-fi service.
  • Pompeii was spectacular, but hire a driver, don't drive yourself.
  • Rainbow Limos was a real godsend - always on time for tours, transfers, etc. and always friendly and informative.
  • The ferry to Capri was also fun.

August 2012 - We had a wonderful two weeks in Villa Mariangela. A great location, good restaurants and shops for fresh food close at hand.

The villa was charming, it felt like a real home, which of course it was. Plenty of room for four of us, comfortable beds and the most fantastic views from the terraces.

There was nothing to fault. Maybe a few more plates, glasses and cups would help. There were four of us and we just had enough, however a group of six people may find it helpful to have extra.

We found Summer In Italy thanks to Google. Great website, lots of useful information and very accurate representation of our villa. Good communication and excellent service all round. We would not hesitate to book with Summer In Italy again.

Travel tips

  • There is no need for a car, and no place near by to keep one!
  • The local bus and train links will easily get you to Sorrento, Naples or Pompeii for a day trip.
  • The ferry service is excellent too, ideal for a day in Amalfi, from where you can get the bus to Ravello.
  • Catch the late ferry back to Positano for a beautiful night time 'cruise' and picture postcard views of Positano as you approach.
  • To keep your cash topped up you will find an ATM directly on Via Marconi above the villa.

June 2012 - Villa Mariangela has a beautiful view of the sea and access up the stairs to the local bar, grocery store, and access down the stairs to beautiful beaches.

Thank you for all the newsletters of what to expect, etc in Italy. We had a wonderful time.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared for the steps and the walk to town, we enjoyed that! Great work out and beautiful views.
  • The trip to Capri was well worth the short trip and views of the coastline.

Travel tips

  • Take a boat trip, one that you can get out and swim. The water is beautiful!
  • We particularly enjoyed the restaurant Mediterranea. Good food and fun staff.
  • Renters should be aware that one does a lot of stair-climbing when staying at this villa, but that's almost universal in Positano.

Travel tips

  • Great location, approximately 100 steps down from the top of the town, where Bar Internazionale is, including the SITA bus stop. The local Positano bus also stops here which is helpful if you've been to the beach or shopping in town and don't want to climb back up!
  • The SITA buses travel from Amalfi to Sorrento, and are a great way to make day trips. One way is about 3 or 4 euros a person, and it is cheaper than traveling by boat. For a day trip, you'll also save money by buying a 24 hour ticket, instead of 2 one-way tickets.
  • Definitely check out Ravello if you have the chance, it was one of our favorite places to visit. Take the bus to Amalfi and transfer to the Ravello bus. Check out the villas/gardens, spectacular setting and views high above the sea.
  • In Positsno, there is a fruit stand near Bar Internazionale, and also a tabacchi shop, both which are great choices for quick purchases.
  • For lunch/dinner the intermediate priced restaurants seem to be half way down town, while the most expensive are on the beach.
  • If you want an authentic, delicious meal consider Restaurant Scirocco, located in the mountains above Positano-they have a free shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off in Positano. The views are amazing and they make you feel like part of the family!

June 2012 - We enjoyed Positano and our location which was away from the busy area and accompanying noise. The view was to die for.

Villa Mariangela was adequately furnished. We were a party of two couples and had plenty of room though the showers were small by American standards.

The 100 steps down to the villa from the main road proved to be more of a mental challenge than a physical one.

The owners were a delight to meet.

We would be pleased to stay there again.

Travel tips

  • Near the top of the steps from the villa are a macelleria, groceria, and frutta stand for all of your cooking needs.
  • Bar Internazionale is also at the top which is the location for the buses to Sorrento and Amalfi as well as to the lower levels of Positano. Great caffe and dolce also there.
  • We found good food at the following: Trattoria Azzurra - top to right and another on top to left on the left, and below restaurants il Saraceno d'Oro and Mediterraneo. There are many are many places to eat I am sure are equally as good.
  • You don't want or need a car. Parking is terrible and expensive (22 E per day). We hired a driver from Naples. He talked to the owner and knew right where to take us.
  • After Positano, we were heading to Cortona. I rented a car in Sorrento and picked up the day before we left.
  • We took a ferry to Amalfi, the best part of which was seeing Positano and the coast from the water.
  • While Amalfi is ok, it has many day tourist which Positano does not. The Duomos are worth seeing both in Positano and Amalfi.
  • We also took a day trip to Pompeii (bus to Sorrento and train to Pompeii). Definitely worth it.
  • Over all, the view of Positano and the sea is to die for.

May 2011 - Villa Mariangela was a great value. It has stunning views, two patios on two levels, dishwasher and washing machine, compact but completely adequate kitchen, three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and discounts at area restaurants.

Located 1/2 way below the main road through town, Via Marconi, and 1/2 way above Viale Pasitea, everything is quite accessible. Bar Internazionale and the other small shops close by have most everything you'll need including Local Positano bus and SITA bus tickets.

www.summerinitaly.com exceeded our expectations. Descriptions of the villas is excellent. Our questions through the initial search process and then booking were answered timely, professionally, and with a genuine concern for our needs. You have our highest recommendation!

Travel tips

  • If you want to spend all of your time at the beach and shopping, you probably want something closer to the center. Otherwise, this is a great location.
  • The description on the website is very accurate, although be prepared - the view is even more beautiful than the pictures.
  • We bought a 24 hour pass on the SITA bus for about EUR 7 - very good value - however the bus can get crowded and is sometimes standing-room-only.

September 2010 - It was very clean and spacious; plenty of room for 5 adults. The view was spectacular.

As far as location, it was not as central as we would have liked but we claimed thousands of stairs and burned off all the wonderful pasta dishes that we ate.

We would recommend this place to friends.

Travel tips

  • The restaurant Saraceno D'oro was fabulous and the discount arranged by Summer In Italy was most appreciated.
  • This location is great for catching the bus going to Sorrento or Amalfi.

July 2010 - We all had a lovely time at the villa. The host was very charming on arrival. Everything worked, was cleaned and the ambiance was very relaxing.

Everything was great - thanks very much.

Travel tips

  • Highlights for us was the boat trip to Adolfo for lunch and the hike to Praiano (decent level of fitness required) for the spectacular views.
  • The amount of stairs down to the beach are not an exaggeration - it is quite a climb back up but the local bus is very handy and drops off right the villa.

June 2010 - We enjoyed Villa Mariangela very much. The villa was excellent and the surroundings overwhelming. We have never seen such beautiful sceneries.

Summer In Italy were very professional. We have no complaints.

Travel tips

  • We went down the stairs to Spiaggia di Fornillo for bathing then we followed the excellent path to Marina Grande and all the shops and restaurants.
  • We took a boat trip to Capri and hired a car with driver (recommended). We saw a lot of Capri that way. Grotta Azzurra not recommended (tourist trap).
  • Bus transportation (internal bus in Positano) from the beach to the house is necessary.

June 2010 - We enjoyed our stay at Villa Mariangela.

When we first arrived in Positano, we thought that perhaps we had made a mistake in renting a villa higher up in the village rather than one closer to the beach. However, in the end, we are glad we did. It was quieter and less touristy and Villa Mariangela is very well located between the main road (with the bar and grocery store and fruit stand) and Via Pasitea and its restaurants (including Restaurant Il Saraceno D'Oro).

I think you did a great job in organizing the vacation rental and communicating with us. We would certainly rent through Summer in Italy again. Grazie!

Unfortunately, Villa Mariangela can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
