The perfect home away from home!
April 2016 - We were 2 couples in our early 60's. We had read and we now totally agree that Positano is the place to set your base on the Amalfi Coast.
Villa Ilizia is a pearl! Wonderful layout, very comfortable, all the modern conveniences, and a stunning view from the huge private terrace! The villa is decorated with great taste! The perfect home away from home!
Great service from the owner!
Thanks Summer in Italy for your friendly assistance, from the reservation process to checking in! Couldn't ask for more!
Travel tips
- Plenty of great restaurants within 5 minute walk, and a friendly food store within 7 minute walk.
- You don't need and you don't want a car in Positano! Parking would be nightmarish!
- We hired a private transfer from Rome airport, and we used a local taxi/service to reach sites (Ravello, Agerola, Path of the Gods, Pompeii, Naples, Punta Penna). It was wonderful not having to drive and worry about the tight and winding roads, and be able to enjoy the fantastic views everywhere you go!
- We took the boat from Amalfi to Positano after our visit to Ravello. A real must as it gives you a great coastal perspective!
- Great hiking trails around. Beside the Path of the Gods and Punta Penna, we walked up the steps leading to Santa Maria Del Castello, high above Positano. Great work out and fantastic view!
- Although we didn't have the time to hike Punta Campanella, it is also highly recommended as it is a relaxed and moderate walk with great views of Capri.

October 2015 - My wife and I spent nearly 90 days at the Villa Ilizia, checking out on October 31, 2015. This property is every bit as spectacular as the photos depict, if not more. Very spacious, huge terrace, and nicely decorated. Villa Ilizia is perched above a main street in Positano, so the traffic noise was a bit disturbing at night and early mornings. That was our only issue. It was not bad enough, however, to prevent us from vacationing here in the future. Our son from Montana and his fiancé came over for 2-3 weeks in September, where he proposed to her on the beach. How could she say no !!!!
The caretakers are extremely helpful with any questions and concerns we had during our stay. The house cleaning lady who came every Saturday, with fresh towels and linens, did a very thorough job of mopping, dusting and tidying up.
Summer in Italy's web site is very user friendly and anytime we had a question, we got a speedy reply. Great service, and our rep Melanie is a dear.
Travel tips
- There is a small, family owned and operated food market down the street from Villa Ilizia, across the street from the Hotel Poseidon. Ask for Isabella or 'Mamma'. They offer fresh produce, meats, wines, breads and much more.
- We love the Amalfi Coast and the food is so fresh and flavorful, it makes American food foul and tasteless in comparison.
- The property is adjacent to the Restaurant Mediterraneo.
- A day trip via the local ferry to the village of Amalfi, then on up to Ravello is a must see!!

September 2014 - Villa Ilizia was a very spacious apartment with 2 bedrooms and 3 baths! With only two of us, it felt like a lot of room and was very comfortable.
The view was beautiful and weather superb. The four big French doors leading out to the verandah were fabulous! There were a couple of issues... One being ants in the kitchen which we sprayed for and had an electric plug in device to get rid of them. Another issue was bath towels, we had two large bath towels for the week for two people... We did ask for more and they did provide a few more with no charge.
Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Communication with Summer In Italy was superb. They helped with any questions and were always very friendly. Exceptional service. You all were wonderful!! Would definitely recommend you to anyone traveling to Italy.
Travel tips
- Go to Max's Italian cooking class!
- Do ferry over to Capri and Anacapri. Recommend getting a driver to take you up to Anacapri... Alessandro was terrific!
- Go to Antonio's in Anacapri for a pair of hand made sandals.
- Skip the Blue Grotto... Tourist trap.
- Do rent the electric car (go green!) and go see Ravello!
- Hotel Caruso is a lovely spot to have dinner and enjoy the magnificent views!
- Enjoy the limoncello!
- Do charter a private boat for the day! Maurizio was a wonderful captain and we enjoyed a full day along the coast and around Capri.
- Wonderful friendly people everywhere we went!

August 2014 - We feel lucky and very privileged to have stayed at Villa Ilizia for the 8 fabulous days that we did in late August 2014.
The size, comfort, location and amenities of the apartment far exceeded our expectations.
The villa is palatial, well furnished, impeccably clean, light and sunny. The views are breath-taking so asthmatics beware!
Dealing with the "Summer In Italy" staff was efficient and a pure pleasure as was our meeting contact at the Villa on arrival. You guys are all great. From my first inquiry through to the end booking it was a complete pleasure conducting business with you. I give Summer In Italy (Luca especially because he found the villa for us) and Villa Ilizia 10 out of 10. I highly recommend both. You made our visit to Italy one of the best holidays of our lives. Thanks to you all - especially Luca. Much appreciated.
Travel tips
- Villa Ilizia is close to the local bus route and easy walking distance to some great restaurants that have some of the best views in the world (in my opinion).
- Restaurant Caffe Positano is a five minute walk down the road and boasts a great menu with great wine (house wine is also very good) and sensational views from both road level and downstairs (quieter).
- The Restaurant Mediterraneo right next door is also a lot of fun.

June 2014 - Villa Ilizia is everything the pictures show and more!
Our stay in Positano could not have been any better, with Villa Ilizia being a huge highlight.
We were a family of 5 (of which 3 were young adult children) and the space was excellent, our 6 ft son managed fine sleeping on the sofa!
We utilized the fully functional kitchen a couple of nights making our dinner from produce purchased 200 meters down the road, at the small but well stocked general store.
The position of the villa in regard to the beaches, restaurants, etc. was perfect. Yes, it is Positano, so there is a bit of a hill to walk back up after an afternoon on the water but the reward of returning to the villa and sitting out on the terrace with some antipasto and chilled regional wine, while taking in the Mediterranean vista, made the walk several times a day quite easy!!
Don't change anything - it is already perfect. We also found Roberta [the caretaker] an absolute delight and extremely helpful. Thank you for letting us have a taste of your beautiful part of Italy.
Thank you Summer In Italy for your excellent communication throughout the booking process.
Travel tips
- We did a wonderful day trip out to Capri! It is definitely worth paying a few dollars more and going on a boat that takes you around the whole island, gives you some commentary and stops off at a few beautiful swimming spots along the way.
- We also spent 2 of our days on Fornillo Beach(just a short walk around the cliffs to the right when you come down the hill). Quieter than the main beach and for EUR 7 you get yourself a chair for the day and they have good food and drinks available at each of the little beach huts! You can also hire their kayaks for EUR 5, and explore the caves around the coast.

May 2014 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Ilizia! The facility is beautiful and has wonderful appointments including screens which we did not need. The terrace is exceptional. The Villa is away from the crowds but a nice walk to the beach.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt very secure knowing we could always reach out to you in your cell phones. It was very helpful being able to email limo services through you which worked out very well. Everything went smoothly and we had no need to contact you during our stay. We will definitely recommend you and will use you again if/when we return to Italy. Thank you so much.
Travel tips
- Villa Ilizia is located among some of the best restaurants in Positano including Restaurant Da Vicenzo and Restaurant Next 2.
- There is a store for groceries down the street, a news store and wine store within the block.
- The bus stop is across the street and the taxi stand is a short walk down the street.
- The cooking school at La Tagliata is a wonderful day with Gina. If you don't do the cooking school be sure to dine at La Tagliata in Montepertuso.
- We had cappuccino at Caffè Positano with a marvelous view.
- We enjoyed a day along the Amalfi Coast with Peppe as our driver from Limousine Sorrento Renato Cuomo. He took us to some wonderful spots.
- We also enjoyed a visit to Pompeii and Herculaneum. We recommend a guide at Herculaneum even though some guide books say you don't need one.
- We had a wonderful archaeologist guide for Pompeii through Emiliano’s Archaeological Tours.
- We were disappointed in Capri because of the crowds and tourism. We enjoyed Anacapri and Villa San Michele better than Capri town.
- Sorrento was a fun day. Definitely bring a bathing suit in May because the water is lovely.
- We would have liked to spend more time in Ravello.

April 2014 - The three of us, my husband our 16 year old daughter and I, had an absolutely wonderful vacation at Villa Ilizia for a week over the Easter break.
It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the area. Overall the home is beautifully decorated and you can tell it has so many personal touches. We knew we would love it when we first walked in.
The kitchen was well equipped and met all our needs. The dining room was lovely with a beautiful large wooden table and chairs. The living room was very relaxing, a comfortable couch and place to chat and lounge. The bedrooms were large and even had seating areas for privacy. Very comfy and also nice to walk into and see the pretty decor.
The outdoor terrace is the bomb! So spacious! Beautiful plants all over, several lounge chairs with cushions and two separate areas that had tables and chairs for dining or just sitting and reading. We spent most of our time on this lovely terrace. We looked through the telescope everyday at the boats traveling across the water.
The drawback? We didn't want to leave Villa Ilizia and sightsee, it was so comfy.
This is our first time booking with Summer in Italy and we got exactly what we wanted. We greatly appreciate the accurate information we were provided about the Villa. We will definitely book again with Summer in Italy!
Travel tips
- There is a local small grocery just down the street towards the center that has wonderful sandwiches and many other items for picnics, etc.
- Villa Ilizia is very close to the center, just walk to Caffè Positano and take the steps down and you are in the center of Positano.
- Go out for dinner, the restaurants are very good.

October 2013 - Villa Ilizia is wonderful! We had the most charming hosts, Enzo and Lorenzo, and the people of Positano were fabulous. We were welcomed with a chilled bottle of wine and the perfect place to stay.
Our holiday was nearly a disaster - we left one of our bags on the Sita bus and were devastated on arrival. Everyone helped us from the nearby restaurant to the Mediterraneo restaurant next door, and even the Summer in Italy team. We were so grateful to get our bag back the very next day, with everything intact. We were (and still are) enormously grateful to the wonderful people in Positano.
Words can hardly describe the Villa - it is so wonderful. There is everything you need and more. It is so spacious, clean and tidy and beautifully decorated. The Villa is within walking distance to restaurants, shops and the beach. We loved listening to the music from the restaurant on the terrace at night and the view was spectacular.
Personally, I think the very best part of our stay was the people, they really made us feel so welcome and a part of their community for a week. We can't wait to go back!!
The Summer in Italy team are the best - you prepared us so well for our trip and were so helpful in the lead up to our stay and when we lost our bag, thank you so much! I found you through Google - absolutely the best, thank you so much for making our holiday so memorable - I will certainly recommend you to everyone. Ciao e grazie!!
Travel tips
- To make the most of your trip - prepare yourself for the steps and learn a little Italian (it goes a long way!).
- Take day trips on the ferry to Capri or other spots on the Amalfi Coast - it's wonderful from the water.
- Eat out if you can - the food is amazing as is the ambiance.

September 2013 - Villa Ilizia was much larger than we were expecting. Loved the location in town and our view. It was a beautiful home and we would love to stay here again, if we get a chance to return.
You made our arrangements quite easy for us to complete. The instructions were all good, but we got lucky and rode over on the bus with someone who knew the caretaker that we were to meet. She led us right to him.
Travel tips
- Day trips from here through Sorrento will cost you extra for a cab. The bus wasn't reliable enough for us.

- Although there's only 2 bedrooms, the place is huge. 6-8 people could very comfortably stay. There are 3 full baths plus an outside shower.

July 2013 - We had the pleasure os staying at Villa Ilizia for 3 days. The apartment is well appointed and is located close to everything, but in a more quiet area. The apartment is spacious and the view is amazing. A family can easily stay there without missing the spaciousness of home.
Travel tips
- It is difficult to drive and park in Positano. There is a parking lot very close to the property. It is best to leave the car there and use other modes of transportation to get around. There is a bus system which is frequently used. We hired a driver and van to take us throughout the area for a full day. It is a great way to see the areas of Positano, Sorrento, and Ravello in a short period of time. While in Positano we usually walked around the town.

June 2013 - Villa Ilizia was fantastic - so large and the balcony was just amazing.
Location was perfect. We didn't have to catch the local bus to get into the centre of Positano, as it was an easy walk there and back, plus there were many eating places close by.
We loved the size of the villa and the views.
Travel tips
- Location is great. No need to catch local bus, as you can walk in and out of centre of Positano via road or down steps. This takes about 10 - 15 minutes. Any further 'up' hill would have been more difficult, or required use of bus.
- The views are fantastic and size of villa is so good. Balcony is brilliant. Rooms sizes are a dream - especially if you have been travelling and staying in hotel rooms.
- There is a local shop, selling wine, deli foods, groceries about 5 minutes away, for stocking up own food if required.
- There is a number of restaurants on road villa is on - so no real need to go into centre of Positano if you don't want to.

May 2013 - We loved Villa Ilizia! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Lorenzo and Enzo and our needs and questions were met with ease and a friendly manner and they were always available to help or answer our questions but never interfered. There was champagne cooling on ice for us on our arrival and lots of help with unloading our car.
The apartment/villa was absolutely beautiful with everything that we could want. We especially loved the terrace with its tremendous view and location. Everything we needed was only a short walk away including groceries, shopping, dining and of course wine at Enzo's next door. And Lorenzo's restaurant on the other side of Villa Ilizia provided many great meals and such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Lorenzo even presented us with two books on the evening before our departure because we had come to know him and his staff so well over our stay.
I was there with my two sons and their two friends (all in their mid twenties) and we all marveled at the warmth and friendliness with which we were treated.
The villa was completely well furnished and stocked and we totally felt at home there. I would go back in a minute.
And Positano had such wonderful things to do and see. The kids enjoyed the beach, hiking up the mountain in the neighboring towns, the incredible scenery and the proximity of places to visit such as Capri.
I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of our accommodations and with the warmth and integrity of the people we came in contact with. I highly recommend Villa Ilizia and the Summer In Italy rental experience. Thank you so very much for all of your wonderful service. You were there for phone calls while we were en route to Positano to make sure all of our connections with people happened smoothly.
Travel tips
- Enzo was a very gracious host at his shop next door. He was always ready to let us sample wines before we decide what to buy.
- Ristorante Mediterraneo had absolutely delicious food and even better were the wonderful people we met there.
- Just up the street was the restaurant Saraceno D'Oro which was also fantastic. They were very accommodating even insisting that we take their umbrellas for our walk home one evening because it was pouring, knowing that we were leaving the next morning and weren't likely to return them.
- Cafe Positano was a restaurant where we had another great meal.
- For groceries we went to the Latteria just down the street where we could get fresh veggies and fruit, wonderful cured meats and fresh buffalo mozzarella.
- We loved the beach and little beach bars at Fornillo Beach, which is separate from the main tourist beach. The men working there were delightful and very helpful, arranging beach chairs for us whenever we went there.
Unfortunately, Villa Ilizia can not be booked at this time.
We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
