October 2010 - We had a great time at Villa Il Poggio.

The views were amazing (overlooking the Isle of Capri and Naples at the base of Mt Vesuvius). However, the shower in the bathroom in the uppermost bedroom was broken and the hot water often ran out in all the bathrooms.

The grounds were beautiful but unkempt - it would have been nice if the grass had been cut and the gardens weeded.

All in all, though, it was a beautiful home and we had a great time there.

Everyone at Summer in Italy who I had contact with was exceptionally helpful - I would definitely book through you again and would refer others to do the same.

Travel tips

  • The driveway is very narrow and we scratched our car on the first night - it is necessary to be very careful.
  • The shopping in Sorrento is fantastic and we got the best bargains there - it was better than anywhere else we went (i.e. France, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, England).
  • We did day trips into Naples, the Isle of Capri and the Amalfi Coast - all were fantastic outings and we especially enjoyed Capri.

May 2007 - Very nice location and view. Good value.

Good information, directions, etc. Photos of the villa were realistic. No hidden costs.

We booked with you because of a referral from a friend.

Travel tips

  • Rent the smallest car possible to negotiate the narrow roads and the driveway to the villa.
  • Day-trips are close and easy.

December 2006 - Villa Il Poggio is a beautiful home in a great area.

It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery and get away from the crowded tourist areas of Sorrento and Amalfi (though it is close enough to visit those areas).

The nearby towns of Marciano and Massa Lubrense are pleasant and suitable for all your needs and the people are very welcoming.

Travel tips

  • Basic knowledge of Italian is very important in this area. Unlike Sorrento and Naples where many of the shop owners and waiters, etc. speak decent English (and often several other languages), you will not find that in Marciano and Massa. You can get by trying to communicate in body language but a basic knowledge of Italian (or a phrasebook) will make for an easier transition into the culture.
  • Driving - the roads are very narrow with a lot of twists, turns and elevation changes. I recommend you rent as small a car as possible. We had a 9 passenger van and there were times we were scraping both sides of the van at the same time. I also highly recommend full coverage on your rental vehicle as well as a navigation system because the roads are not well marked and therefore mapquest is essentially worthless.
  • If you go in winter ask about the price of heating gas - for us it was extremely expensive.

October 2006 - Staying in Villa Il Poggio was very satisfying for us all.

We liked the garden very much and we loved to find all these fruits in the garden.

The pizza oven were extraordinary and our boys liked to make pizza and bread in it.

We will recommend to all we know this house.

October 2004 - Really excellent location, and very well equipped.

Plenty of shops within a short drive.

Nearby restaurant excellent food, and they gave us all a lift back to the house!

Summer In Italy provided an excellent service -- all questions answered, we felt very well looked after.

Many Thanks

October 2004 - We have enjoyed Villa Il Poggio a lot: beautiful views, lovely gardens, comfortable beds and seating, pleasant owners.

And Il Poggio is quite convenient to Capri, Pompei, Positano, Amalfi, Paestum, etc.

You folks are wonderful, probably the most helpful/user friendly letting service I've used... and I've used quite a few. Just keep on being sweet.

May 2004 - Our group throughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Il Poggio. The location is quiet, the view is beautiful, and the expansive outdoor terraces make it a wonderful choice for a group.

Our intent was to select a rental property in which we could feel at home and relax after a long day of sightseeing. We definitely succeeded with Il Poggio. The house is not fancy, but is comfortable with completely modern kitchen and baths -- believe it or not we never ran out of hot water! The home was spotless upon our arrival and the cleaning crew was just arriving as we departed.

Your website photos do not do justice to the wonderful view from the patio -- you can't beat cooking a wonderful meal with fresh Italian vegetables and enjoying it while watching an incredible sunset.

The home is very quiet, removed from any busy road, and some readers may be interested to note that while the driveway is very narrow, there are only three or four stairs up to the property from the driveway, which comfortably held our party's four rental cars. Though we never saw the rooster next door because you can't see another house from Il Poggio, he makes a great morning addition for those of us that are urban creatures.

I would be very happy to recommend the property to any of your readers. My only caveat is to remember that this is a rural property - 10 minutes from any true town -- so if nightlife is your goal this is not the property for you.

Unfortunately, Villa Il Poggio can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
