September 2014 - We all enjoyed Villa Demetra very much. It is a wonderful place and we were honored to stay there.
There were 6 of us staying at the villa and we were extremely comfortable. The balconies were amazing and the views were breathtaking. We would love to return.
Luca [the caretaker] was very helpful and gave us lots of tips. He even gave us a ride to the town for groceries. I would also like to mention Isidoro [the other caretaker] as he was so kind and brought us tomatoes, figs and more.
Summer In Italy provided great detail that was very helpful. Thank you and I hope we can return again one day.
Travel tips
- There are many steps but you get used to it (my mother is over 70 and she was a trooper, we also had another person in our group with a broken foot).
- The trip that Luca [the caretaker] set up to Capri was one of our favorite days.
- The ferry from Positano to Sorrento is nice but it takes close to two hours.
- Restaurant La Dolce Vista in Praiano was excellent. The food as well as the service.

June 2014 - Great place Villa Demetra.
Very clean, very quiet and absolutely incredible views. The only negative is the 130 steps down to the villa.

Fantastic
April 2014 - Villa Demetra is a very nice house at a very special place: nature all around, a lot of nice flowers, olive and lemon trees, but short way to shops and restaurants.
The view is exciting: the bluegreen sea directly deep below your feet, you even can see the stones lying on the ground. View to Praiano as well as to Positano and to the mountains until Capri. We loved just standing at the terraces watching all of it. We had sun from morning all day long until it went down behind the Sorrento mountains. If it got too hot, we relaxed at the big garden terrace with an exciting view as well. In the evening we sat around the chimney.
Luca and Isidoro [the caretakers] were very warmly and helpful - a perfect holiday!
Your service was perfect, every question was answered at once, there were a lot of helpful instructions. Luca was very kind and helpful too, he does a lot more than just showing us how everything is running - he and his family makes us feel at home. Thanks a lot!
Travel tips
- You don't need a car. Bus stop is near by and busses run very often.
- You can order food etc at Angela's Alimentari, they'll bring everything you need down to the house.
- Sitting at Bar del Sole at sunset and watching authentic Italian life is a must have!

October 2013 - We had a fabulous time at Villa Demetra... really the perfect place for us and four friends... we would return in a moment if we could!
I am so glad we "discovered" Summer in Italy! Everything worked out perfectly... I enjoyed the regular contact from Luca, and found he responded quickly to my questions. I would book through them again.
Travel tips
- Be prepared for the 124 steps from the road to this wonderful house... we counted it as an incentive to enjoy the wonderful food we found in the village of Praiano... we found ourselves walking them at least three times a day, in addition to hiking some wonderful trails... remember, Praiano is located on a cliff.
- One must get used to walking the narrow road from the villa to town, with cars, motorcycles and tour buses whizzing past. Disconcerting at first, but we got used to it.
- Be sure to enjoy the Trail of the Gods... a wonderful trek into the cliffs above with stupendous views.

September 2013 - Villa Demetra was gorgeous and the views were spectacular! We were a group of 6 women and we were all very comfortable with plenty of room and lots of options for lounging and enjoying the views.
I would definitely recommend it!
We have referred your website to many of our friends in the travel industry! Loved it!
Travel tips
- To get to the villa you have to go down lots of steep steps with your luggage. The steps are not an option, they are a necessity. I would advise to arrange ahead of time for help with the luggage.
- The Pensione Pellegrino across the way from the Villa serves a fabulous breakfast and we had our favorite meal in all of Italy at their restaurant. Luigi and his family were also very helpful with tourist info and bus tickets, etc.

August 2013 - We had a fabulous family holiday at Villa Demetra. There was plenty of space for people to have their own privacy and great areas for meeting (on the terrace or in the big kitchen/dining area).
The views more than compensate for the stairs, which provide good exercise.
We appreciated being able to have some herbs, chillies and garlic from the garden.
The support and information was excellent.
Travel tips
- The walk to the Convent of San Domenico is worth it.
- We stayed during the period of the Luminaria, so there we special effects.
- The little beach at Praia was the most convenient for a toddler.

September 2012 - My family was there to celebrate my brother's 60th birthday. We all absolutely loved our stay at Villa Demetra. Breathtaking views, great outdoor space. Lots of steps down to the villa - but you get used to them.
Isidoro, our neighbour, is a very sweet man - who gave us the most delicious figs from his garden!
We look forward to going back!

July 2011 - Our family of four (including two six year old girls) loved our two week stay at Villa Demetra in July and we would go back there in a heartbeat.
The villa is very comfortable and spacious. There are wonderful views of spectacular scenery from almost every window and certainly from all the terraces. We never tired of the view.
The villa was well appointed with dishes, cooking utensils, towels and sheets. We appreciated having the use of a dishwasher and especially a washing machine as we were washing bathing suits etc almost every day.
The children delighted in picking lemons from the trees on the terrace. The loved exploring the nearby orchards and were not bored for a moment.
The villa is located close enough to Praiano for convenience and far enough away to have utter peace and quiet which we want on our vacations. It was very easy to get around to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello etc by local bus which stopped very near the top of the 121 steps up to the road from the villa.
Luca, the property manager, was exceptionally supportive to us during our stay. We arrived exhausted late on a Saturday in high temperatures and needed some provisions to get through the night. Luca provided us with a shopping checklist to use and then came back in an hour with cases of water, wine, great food etc, all of which he carried down the 121 steps by himself. We were so grateful. He did this again for us several more times during our stay. As well, he provided much other helpful support and guidance on where to go, how to get there and showed me where to rent a cell phone for the two weeks.
Lastly, we must comment on how friendly and helpful all the Italians were to us. Everyone we encountered was patient with our lack of Italian language skills. Our neighbour Isidoro left us onions and garlic in a basket most days. We really appreciated being treated so well.It makes all the difference in a holiday.
Restaurant owners and servers often remembered us, including our preference for beverages and how we liked our food prepared. This happened in busy restaurants where we had been only two or three times. We noticed the strong customer service culture.
We can provide an unqualified recommendation for this wonderful corner of paradise called Villa Demetra and we are looking forward to coming back sometime soon.
The photos and descriptions of the property accurately depicted the property and what we could expect. The directions to the villa and description of it were excellent. Luca is the most wonderful property manager. We expected that he would toss us the keys on arrival and then pick them up on return. Instead, he was more like a concierge. He treated us very, very well and we were so grateful.
Travel tips
- We always carried our swim things with us for a refreshing afternoon dip no matter where we were. We planned our days so that we went sightseeing in the morning, had a lovely lunch and then went to a beach for the afternoon. Swim shoes are essential as many beaches are rocky. Even the sandy beaches in Positano and Amalfi have a rough type of gravel at the water's edge.
- We adored Ravello and wished we had planned for an overnight stay there to enjoy one of the evening or sunrise concerts in the beautiful amphitheatre there.
- We recommend skipping Gavitella beach which is directly below Praiano (orange umbrellas visible from the villa). It is a very long trip down and much longer coming back up and the beach is not very nice. A much nicer day at the beach is to take a quick 15 minute bus ride to Positano and enjoy the beach there, to be followed by gelato afterward while waiting for the return bus.
- This part of Italy and indeed, this villa are not suitable for people with respiratory or ambulatory issues. There are always dozens (and hundreds) of steps to get to and from places and often there are no railings for support.

Travel tips

- Restaurant La Strada and Hosteria Il Pino have excellent food.

May 2011 - The villa was a great place to stay. Excellent accommodation and very central in the Amalfi coast. Just a short walk to town.
The interior is a little dated but it is in excellent condition and very clean. I would highly recommend this villa.
Everything was easy and simple. Just the way it should be.
Travel tips
- Driving is along the Amalfi coast is a a challenge but finding a parking spot in a town is almost impossible. I suggest you take buses and/or hire private driver.

March 2011 - Villa Demetra was more than what we had expected. More beautiful than pictures on the website, very comfortable and quiet with lots of character. We had hired a chef for one day and he cooked us an amazing several course meal!
DVD player was a blessing after a very active tiring day. It was nice to cuddle up in front of fire place and watch movie! We did not have luck with WIFI.
All the arrangements and help before, during and after from Summer in Italy were more than expected. We arrived late at night and all the stores were closed but Luca [the caretaker] went out of his way and took us in his car to the town, opened up a store for us to buy milk and some breakfast for next morning!! Last day we made pizza in outdoor pizza oven and ate under the lemon grove on villa terrace on a sunny crisp afternoon with a beautiful Mediterranean ocean view!

- Hire a chef for the day Joe Pesci was the best.

November 2010 - We highly recommend this villa. It is exactly like the pictures, except the view and location is more spectacular. It is perched on the edge of cliff -- you literally look straight down into a little cove/boat ramp area.
We stayed with two families -- 3 kids and 4 adults and it was just right for that number of people. The downstairs shower wasn't working, but that was the only complaint.
We also thought that Praiano and Marina Praia were heaps better than Positano. If you can't do stairs, then don't stay here -- it is quite a long hike up and down to the house, which isn't everybody's cup of tea. Carrying a lot of luggage to this villa would be a bitch. Actually carrying it back up would be worse.
Great service. We'd do it again tomorrow if we could. Thanks.
Travel tips
- The hiking trails -- Path of the Gods -- that is in the mountains above the villa is well worth checking out -- brilliant walking and astoundingly beautiful. I wished I had more days to wander up along the top of the range and you can access the trail system by foot from the villa.
- The restaurants and beach in Marina Praia were a great place to spend a few days.
- Bar del Sole is a great place to spend an afternoon drinking beer on the terrace.

October 2010 - Villa Demetra was the perfect place to relax on the Amalfi Coast - far enough away from other more popular places that sometimes are overrun with tourists (Amalfi whenever the cruise ships arrive, for example) - but close enough too so that one could travel by SITA (or private driver) to almost anywhere on la costiera amalfitana within a short amount of time.
The villa itself was very enjoyable - quiet, well-appointed, and with incredible views of the water and the coastline.
All in all our experience with Summer in Italy was excellent. The villa was exactly as described and the information provided was very helpful.
Travel tips
- Day trips included Ravello, Amalfi, Positano, and a long 4-hour hike along the Sentiero degli Dei (twice, in fact).
- No need for a car since the area is well-served by SITA bus service.
- The best restaurant in Praiano was Hosteria Il Pino, and Restaurant La Brace serves delicious pasta and pizza too.
- We stayed at the Villa Demetra in the off-season (mid-October) so some of the restaurants were already closed for the year. Not sure, either, what our experience would have like when the swarms of tourists arrive on the Amalfi Coast in July and August.

October 2010 - Everything was so perfect that it made us minimize the 124 steps that we had to climb.
The view was breathtaking and the villa oh so comfortable and even nicer than what we had seen on the internet.
Your services are excellent, we really enjoyed your regular newsletter prior to our trip as it gave us many good information and advice about Italy. Your follow up information is better than anything I had ever seen and I have seen a lot, I am 73 years old.
Travel tips
- Don't take to many luggages or heavy ones unless you're in good shape for the steps.

September 2010 - The Villa was very nice. It was spacious and clean with beautiful views. The Villa was well described on the website as well as in the photos.
Having the garden and "grandpa" Isidoro upstairs was awesome. He brought us fresh figs and home-made wine. He gave us total access to the garden where we picked tomatoes, herbs, and grapes on a daily basis. He was very friendly and offered suggestions on things to do.
Having a car is a must and having the parking spot is great. Parking is a premium and not having to worry about finding a spot when you come home from a long day of touring is priceless.
The website was great. I always received returned emails within hours and all my questions were answered. All the vouchers, etc. were perfect.
I booked with Summer in Italy based on a recommendation from a friend. Very good recommendation.
The total trip was great. From the flights, to rental car, to the Villa, to the scenery, to the food.... and return flights... everything was fantastic.
Travel tips
- Make friends with "grandpa" Isidoro. He lives upstairs and is such a wonderful person. He is friendly and kind. He tries very hard to communicate even though his English is limited. We enjoyed interacting with him. He generously gave us access to his garden. Gave us fresh figs, and home-made wine. He wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. He recommended going to La Praia which is the main beach just south of the town.
- Be aware of the stairs... The stairs from the road to the Villa are steep and trying depending on athletic ability. Please make sure everyone in your party is able to climb and descend some 100 steps (one-way) multiple times a day, plus whatever walking is done while touring towns, etc. Our group was mixed. three of us were in our 40's and early 50's while two were in their 70's. We all managed but it is difficult the older you are.
- Our favorite restaurant was Restaurant San Gennaro, located next the the Church. The food was great but the service was even better. Tomas the waiter had the best personality of all the waiters we encountered during our trip. We went back to this restaurant several times. Ask for Tomas.
Unfortunately, Villa Demetra can not be booked at this time.
We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
