June 2015 - Villa Daria, in Praiano, was possibly our most favourite place we stayed at during our five weeks in Italy. With beautiful views and just the sound of the sea it made for a perfect retreat.

The owner of Villa Daria, Nicola, was a pleasure to meet and deal with. Just keep doing what you are doing. We absolutely loved staying at Villa Daria and will be back.

Great service from Summer In Italy, as well as booking process and directions. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • Our favorite part of Praiano was the community of welcoming locals.
  • The local cafes, general store and pizza shop all were great and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
  • Jump on a bus and visit Positano, Amalfi, Ravello & Pompeii.
  • Jump on a boat and visit Capri.
  • Make sure you are ok with steps as there were a few to get down to the house and quite a few to get to the water, but well worth it.

July 2014 - We enjoyed Villa Daria. It worked well for us.

Travel tips

  • You could buy almost everything in the small food shops.
  • Easy to go by bus to nearby towns.
  • We tried a couple of restaurants in the village, the food was good.

Very good

May 2014 - The villa's greatest quality is where it is situated. The view is lovely, but to be close enough to the sea to hear the waves against the rocks was even better.

Travel tips

  • You must be able bodied to cope with the many steps to and from the town.
  • Enjoy the pizzas and great view of Positano at Gennaro's.

Fantastic

May 2014 - Loved our home away from home and wish we were back at Villa Daria.

The house is well equipped and looks out over the glorious sea from a small balcony.

We really enjoyed Praiano away from the crowds of Positano or Amalfi but with easy access to all. Perfect place to stay!

Travel tips

  • Villa Daria is a wonderful place to stay. If you are not used to steps, start practicing before you go! It is well worth the effort. The view is spectacular.
  • We took carry-on luggage only for our month in Italy. We had more than enough clothes and were sooooo glad of our small bags when we hit the steps.
  • The house was cold in May and we asked for extra blankets which were generously and promptly delivered.

Fantastic

September 2013 - We enjoyed Villa Daria very much. The view to the sea was amazing and it was wonderful enjoying every meal on the terrace! We had a lovely breeze during our stay, so there was no need for A/C.

We were very comfortable, beds were nice and firm, and there is a washing machine. Very convenient.

The fact that our weather was spectacular helped us to have a wonderful time. The location in Praiano was right in the middle of everywhere. It is an adorable village with markets, restaurants, a wonderful beach club, and an all around great location. We would stay again!

Summer In Italy is unbeatable. The help and assistance I received was so valuable. I will go through them again for my next trips to Italy. Every question I had, whether big or small was answered immediately, and with such kindness! The packet of directions was very easy to read and helpful.

Travel tips

  • Loved taking the bus to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Sorrento, Minori, Maiori, and just about everywhere else. Although public transportation was crowded, it's cheap and easy.
  • Loved our day trip to Capri and Ischia.
  • La Gavitella beach club was fabulous and their caprese salad to die for! Wish I was still there...

July 2013 - Villa Daria is a perfect home away from home. We were greeted by the owner, Nicola, who helped us with our luggage down the many steps to the spacious villa. It was so spacious for the six of us and the balcony was the perfect spot for taking in the views during breakfast, lunch or dinner!

The highlight of the trip was Nicola taking us out for a beautiful boat trip along the coast (for a fee). For five hours we were shown the wonderful sights of the Amalfi Coast and provided with a delicious handmade lunch with goodies from Nicola's garden. Nicola also dropped anchor a few times so we could enjoy a swim.

The swimming spot down the hundreds of steps below the villa is worth it if you're able, it's the walk back up that's the killer!

Your website was very easy to navigate and your staff fantastic to deal with, from providing advice to responding with necessary information. This made choosing to book with "Summer In Italy" very easy. Keep doing a fantastic job!

Our stay at Villa Daria was a highlight of our trip, thank you.

Travel tips

  • If you have difficulty negotiating many steps this location is not ideal, but the view is worth it!
  • Even though Nicola [the owner] doesn't speak a lot of English and us no Italian we still managed to communicate (with many laughs!), so no need to be put off by this.
  • If Nicola offers to take you out on his motor boat, it is definitely worth the fee for this wonderful experience, it was the highlight or our holiday!
  • A handy supermarket was only 5 min walk at the top of the many steps and provided everything needed to eat in.

June 2013 - Our stay at Villa Daria was amazing.

Praiano was a very relaxing place to stay for a week. The views from our balcony and living room were incredible. I miss having my coffee on the balcony and just being mesmerized by the view.

Mr. Nicola [the owner] took us for an unforgettable tour of the coastline on his boat. We took bus rides to Amalfi and Positano to experience the crazy roads but also to see the sights. The kids loved Positano for the beach and we loved it for the cafes.

We would strongly recommend staying in Praiano for the quiet, relaxation and beauty it possesses. Amalfi and Positano are very busy and expensive.

We hope to return to Praiano and to Villa Daria one day.

Summer in Italy was very helpful in making contact with Mr. Nicola as we experienced some phone problems while in Italy. The feedback was very quick and helpful. Thanks for everything!!

Travel tips

  • Mr. Nicola does not speak any English so brush up on some Italian before you get there. His brother, Nino, lives close by and he was great to chat with.
  • If you want a great place to relax and swim and get away from the crowds, just walk down to the tower you see from your balcony and you will love it! The colour and clarity of the water is something I will never forget in my lifetime!
  • Visit Positano for sure, and you could skip visiting Amalfi if you're pressed for time as it was very touristy.
  • The bus stop was at the top of the stairs as well as grocery shops and restaurants.

August 2012 - Villa Daria was a lovely, authentic Italian apartment. The setting is perfect and the view from the balcony is fabulous.

Praiano was a great base for exploring the Amalfi coast.

We had a boat trip with the owner Signor Nicola which we really enjoyed and would thoroughly recommend.

There were only 4 of us but had there been 6 we would have been short on cutlery.

Travel tips

  • Driving down the coast road does take some getting used to but is great to have a car to go exploring.
  • Parking can sometimes be a bit difficult in Praiano and you may have to drive round the block a couple of times before a space appears. Have some change for the pay and display until a free space becomes available.

September 2011 - Our family of six thoroughly enjoyed our time at Villa Daria. We will certainly return to this beautiful home and location again. We would highly recommend this to our friends and family.

Excellent service and advice given prior to our holiday. There seemed to be a real personal touch. Excellent. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • All the necessary things such as food, transport, small mini market, local fish monger are closely located - you will need to use lots of stairs - but we enjoyed this aspect.

August 2011 - The location was fantastic. The villa was spacious and cool - even in mid August. I did struggle with the language barrier slightly with the owner but with Summer in Italy's assistance we got by. I never quite got used to all the stairs.

Thank you for the best summer holiday yet - I will use your services in the future for my next summer in Italy.

Travel tips

  • Mosquitoes are abundant - due to the proximity to the sea - come prepared.
  • There are many stairs to access the villa - pack lightly as there is no other access point apart from the stairs to the villa.
  • Very little mobile phone reception.
  • The location is fabulous - very central with a bus stop at the top of the stairs and all restaurants and shops well within walking distance.
  • One fire beach is also accessible from Marina di Praia by boat.
  • Don't forget the siesta: 1 pm - 5 pm everyday. Shops close so be prepared.
  • La Sibilla is a new cafe/coffee shop opened in Praiano - they are open from 8 am to 2 am and their gelato and cocktails are brilliant and well priced.

July 2011 - Very happy with Villa Daria. Happy we went to Praiano - not a tourist town but nice restaurants, bar, bays. Had some trouble working out the recycling system.

Relaxed, not 5 star, beautiful, peaceful, stairs. If you are looking for the older way of living, growing your own food, fantastic views then you will love it.

Travel tips

  • There are 2 different buses, Sita and the red bus to Positano.

October 2010 - LOVED IT! This property was unbelievable beautiful, inside and out! The 147 steps made it very private... and I did get used to them after a few days! We learned there are steps to every destination... beach, towns etc.

This was a magnificent property. We enjoyed it immensely. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • The only drawback was that Nicola, the manager spoke very little English. He tried really hard... Just know this in advance and it will make your stay easier. Everyone in town seemed to know some English and were very helpful... the cafe staff, bus drivers etc.

Travel tips

  • This villa is in a lovely little fishing village and has a lovely view over a small bay.
  • There are a few shops to buy provisions and it is very convenient for the bus stop in both directions, there is also a choice of restaurants and bars and everyone is very friendly and helpful.
  • There is something to suit all tastes, beaches, sightseeing, boat trips (hire a boat great fun!)
  • Remember to buy your bus tickets before the shops shut at 1 pm as we got caught out a couple of times. If you don't like steps though, this villa is not for you and to reach the local beaches/bathing platforms there are many many steps!

July 2010 - We had a wonderful stay and would love to come back. The bed in the master bedroom is the most comfortable bed we have slept in.

Thank you to Nicola, the owner, so much for making our stay so memorable. I hope you offer all your guests the boat trip as it was amazing. We really appreciated the fresh lemons, tomatoes and aubergines that were delivered to us.

I booked thru the website. Your website was brilliant and easy to use. All your information was spot on.

June 2010 - We loved our stay, and would recommend Villa Daria.

The view is incredible, the owner brought us homemade wine and lemons and we were able to hire his small boat to take us for a personal tour down the coast. The water was clear and perfect.

The restaurant that overlooks the church yard was excellent. The bus line is exceptionally convenient.

Fantastic service.

Travel tips

  • It makes more sense to visit Pompeii before arriving at the villa unless you have your own vehicle.
  • As everyone mentions, there are lots of steps, and mosquitoes at dusk.

September 2009 - Villa Daria is a nice villa but there are many steps to negotiate when going to and from it.

The views are spectacular, although the balcony was extremely small.

Travel tips

  • Take a kettle! We ended up boiling water in a saucepan every time we wanted a cuppa!
  • Ensure you have plenty of mosquito repellent.
  • Be fit and healthy in order to manage the many steps!
  • If not hiring a car from the airport it would be advisable to pre-book a taxi with an agreed price. We paid 160 Euros from Naples to Praiano, which should have cost approx 100!

June 2008 - Villa Daria was a perfect place for peace, quiet and relaxation.

An excellent base for exploring the Amalfi coast. We felt at home very quickly, a quiet haven to return to at the end of the day, and you could not wish for a better place to wake up in, opening the doors from the bedroom on to the balcony and looking out to sea.

Thank you for an efficient and helpful service.

Travel tips

  • Visit the information centre in the village.
  • Eat at the Pizzeria by the church, (they do take away Pizza).
  • Use the local orange bus.
  • Visit Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, much better than Villa Rufolo.
  • Drink at the Bar del Sole, the best prices.
  • Sit in the square in the sunset and watch the children play.

May 2008 - We enjoyed Villa Daria very much.

It was a beautiful site and we enjoyed being away from the hordes of tourists that we found in Amalfi and Positano.

We had a five year old with us and she loved feeding the rabbits and looking at the garden with Gino.

You folks were wonderful to work with and I have mentioned your company to several people interested in Italy. Your quick response to my emails was extremely important to our satisfaction.

Travel tips

  • The steps to reach the site and to the beach could be an issue for some.
  • Restaurant food was excellent, especially the spot overlooking the church square.
  • We enjoyed grocery shopping at the small stores on the main street, and found the proprietors helpful, but amused by our sign language.

December 2007 - I feel like the Villa Daria greatly exceeded my wildest expectations. Roman arch doors with hand painted glass. High ceilings with lovely colors and very tastefully decorated.

The large master bedroom had French doors with glass and wooden shutters that opened onto a balcony with a view of the ocean and the coastline that took my breath away. As you can imagine... for an artist my senses were on overload.

There were lovely shuttered Roman arched windows in all the rooms that opened to a view of the ocean and a magnificent garden with grape arbors, fruited trees with luscious oranges and lemons. The man who created this lovely garden was very generous in sharing the fruit daily.

As is common with all the Italians that I have met over the years, they have great pride and passion about their gardens and food in general.

Speaking about food... the kitchen was not be believed. It was huge and nicely appointed with everything we needed for cooking. And I LOVE to cook, so this was a dream to be in Italy cooking with fresh herbs, vegetables and pasta with the sound of the ocean waves crashing in the distance. Heaven on earth for me.

Now that "little" coffee pot took a bit of getting used to but the espresso it made was to die for. A small jolt of that in the morning and I was good to go for the day.

Did I enjoy the Villa Daria? I loved it and hope to return one day... Make that... will return one day.

I love you people! You made this whole trip so easy that I felt you were my friends. Whenever I sent and email with questions, there was always a lovely, polite reply giving all the information you might have on the subject.

You supplied directions with exactly what to say to the bus driver in Italian. Where we would be met and by whom. Phone numbers for the owner and your company just in case we needed help.

Helpful information about what to expect when we arrived if something needed to be done at the Villa. Information about the differences in Italy and the U.S. Example: heating, hot water, screens on windows etc.

I guess the best way to describe our experience with your company is to say that... we felt cared for and not if something went wrong we were on our own. You were there for us with people on the phone that spoke English far better than my Italian.

I booked with your company because you had such a wide selection of choices of Villas and apartments. Your website is very professional looking.

Your information about the property was extensive. The description was accurate and honest. I liked the way you handled my emails, promptly, friendly and honestly.

I look forward to doing business with you again and I have certainly recommended you to all my friends and family.

The only downside is that all the places I want to stay with be booked by these same friends and family. :-)

Thank you for helping make my month in Italy such a memorable success.

I love Italy and have made many lasting and long friendships over the years.

Travel tips

  • Just remember that you are in Italy and things are done a little differently than in the States which is why you are there. A new experience. The Italian people are warm, lovely and helpful people. But since we are guests in their country it is always courteous and thoughtful to try and speak their language even if it's only to say "please and thank you" in the beginning, (per favore and grazie). They are a gracious people and will appreciate your attempt and be happy to help you.
  • Villa Daria is in the city of Praiano and is a quiet village without the hustle and bustle of thousand of tourists. Which is exactly what I wanted. A real Italian experience, living, shopping, talking and sharing the similarities and differences of our cultures.
  • There is everything you need at the top of the stairs from the Villa. Travel agent, ATM, restaurants, grocery stores with fresh everything and easy transportation by bus to wherever you wish to go.
  • Ravello was two buses but less than an hour from my door to the city square. Another not to miss town, the "view from the top" of all the cities below is breathtaking.
  • Another not to miss... in Ravello is the restaurant Cumpa' Cosimo with Mama Annette as the owner/chef for the most fantastic home cooking I can remember. I wanted her to adopt me. You will be surprised with some of her past patrons. Look at the photographs on the walls.
  • But if you like the hustle and bustle of the larger cities, Positano and Amalfi city are just 20 minutes away by convenient city buses. For me, Positano for fashion and Amalfi for handmade paper and books etc. Wonderful handmade paper museum, and since this is what I do as an artist/photographer Amalfi was a treat.
  • Now about the charm of the Amalfi Coast. As you might imagine... there are steps. Lots of steps. But what you are getting for the effort will be a feast for all of your senses. I didn't have to worry about finding a treadmill or a stair master for over two weeks and I came home in probably the best shape I've been in for years. So... Yea!

October 2007 - Nicola was a friendly and welcoming host (only Italian speaking). He cooked us his freshly caught calamari after his evening of fishing. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon with Nicola and his brother in Ravello where they generously drove us.

Villa Daria overlooks an inlet with a small fort on one side. Very picture perfect!!

Be ready to walk up 145 stairs to the street :-) However Villa Daria is perfectly located midway between Positano and Amalfi in a quiet fishing village away from the crush of tourists.

Travel tips

  • Leave your car at home. There is a "one euro" bus that goes to Positano.
  • Two lovely restaurants, La Brace and a trattoria near the church have excellent food with great prices.

September 2007 - We were so pleased with Villa Daria; it was exactly as it was described on your Web site. The view from our bedroom balcony/veranda was stunning and the sound of the sea at night was so soothing.

The bedroom was big with plenty of storage space. The bed could have been firmer, but that is just what we're used to at home.

We were surprised by the small kitchen as well as the big kitchen; generally using the smaller one for making coffee and hot cocoa.

We had a problem with the hot water the first night we were there, but figured out it was because the power had been off and the water wasn't heated. By the next morning, everything was in working order.

The gentleman who owns property nearby brought us figs and grapes he was harvesting. What a delight!

We appreciated how close shops and a small grocer and the bus stop was at the top of the street.

Travel tips

  • You must be able to traverse more than 140 steps from the street down to the villa. Everything on the Amalfi/Sorrento Coasts is vertical, so expect this no matter where you stay!
  • Plug in the bug pellet dispenser in the bedroom. There are no window screens, and they really aren't necessary, but there are some tiny mosquitoes that did get me before I figured out how to put one of the blue pellets in the dispenser by the bedside.
  • Yes, there is hot water for showering, but don't expect to take a 30-minute shower because there won't be enough hot water for two.
  • Mr. Nicola, the property manager, speaks very little English. We understood each other after some pantomiming.
  • The people at Summer in Italy were available by phone to help with translating. I even called them and asked them to relay a message to Mr. Nicola about when we wanted him to arrive for our checkout. They were great!
  • We walked down to the swimming platform you can see from the balcony, but the water was a bit too rough to swim there in late September.
  • You can see this magnificent stone watch tower from the villa, but we were disappointed to find out we couldn't go explore it
  • it said private property when we tried to get there.
  • One Fire Beach (with bar, umbrellas and chairs for rent) is nearby, but again, you need to be prepared: It's a lovely downhill walk there from the villa, but there will be many, many steps back up from the beach.

September 2007 - We had an excellent holiday. The villa has a superb unhindered view from the master bedroom and balcony on the sea and old watch tower, and was well equipped.

The villa is in a quiet area, and within walking distance of shops and several good restaurants - we enjoyed this part of Praiano as it was out of the way of the main crowds and less busy. Only drawback was the number of stairs to and from the villa, and down to the swimming area. The swimming area/platform was also superb with deep blue (deep) clear sea - but we soon got used to this. We would definitely stay again.

We had no issues with the booking or information supplied which turned out to be detailed excellent. I will be happy to use your service again, and thank you for the excellent service.

Travel tips

  • Bus, train and ferry service were relatively cheap and good and I was glad I did not take hire a car due to the narrow and busy roads and I would expect parking problems - out of season would probably be OK.
  • The stairs could be difficult for some people - particularly with baggage but were no issue for us.
  • We made it to all the sites - Pompei, Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Paestum easily - these were all breathtaking and should be visited!

August 2007 - Villa Daria has the most incredible views. The villa is a little piece of the past. It is spacious and well-appointed. The main bedroom and its views are spectacular! Waking up to the sound of the sea is just bliss.

Praiano is a gorgeous town and the locals are friendly and helpful. The staff at the Bar del Sole are great and speak English pretty well.

The food at the restaurant above the town square is very fresh and tasty.

The Summer In Italy staff were extremely helpful and courteous to deal. They replied promptly and answered all my queries very well.

Many thanks Summer In Italy - we will be using you again and I have already recommended you to 3 friends planning trips in Italy!

Travel tips

Travel tips

  • Take time to get to know the town of Praiano, the people and the sights.
  • One Fire Beach is well worth the trek where you can swim and rest up a bit at the ristorante.
  • The supermercato up the hill(you can take a bus) has nearly everything you need and Pasquale is the man to talk to about wine (they have a very extensive wine collection) and they even sometimes will drive you back down the hill.
  • Bar del sole is pretty well the center of town its were everyone goes, the owner Tao and his daughters are incredible without them our trip wouldn't have been the same.
  • If you find all the stairs a little daunting, just watch how the locals handle them. They won't be a problem.
  • Renting a boat for a day of exploring is a must, I think it is the best way to see the coast and of course Capri. The best deal was in Positano for boats but check around because prices vary.
  • For ristoranti, again watch and ask where the locals go, the food, price and the the vino will all be better.
  • Life moves at a much slower pace in Praiano give yourself time to enjoy it you won't be sorry.

September 2006 - Villa Daria was stunning! Wake up in the morning and from the bed in the master bedroom you overlook the water... or in the evening when a storm is approaching you can see the lightening over the sea and hear the waves crashing!

We didn't do a lot of cooking but the kitchen is roomy, well appointed and gorgeous! The bathroom was very nice and roomy.

Villa Daria was probably more space than we needed (2 people) but it really felt like home for the week that we were there.

The owner met us promptly at Bar Del Sole and it was just a few minutes walk down lots of steps to reach Villa Daria.

Pack light because Villa Daria is down lots of steps. Nicola's brother [the caretaker] did help us with our luggage when it finally arrived (5 days after we arrived). We loved Bar Del Sole for coffee in the morning and a drink in the afternoon. San Gennaro Trattoria was a great place to eat and the staff was very friendly. Lots of great day trips from Praiano.

Your web site was very easy to use and we felt that your prices were reasonable. Everything went well for us and even through everything is handled through emails it still felt like a personal relationship. Thanks!

September 2006 - The location is perfect and the view from the terrace is wonderful. The apartment is lovely and spacious, clean, and very well-equipped.

The shops and restaurants of Vettica Maggiore are just a few minutes away. There is everything you need there.

The bus to Amalfi and Positano runs very regularly. So you can have the best of both worlds - the relative quiet of Praiano and the bustle of Amalfi and Positano.

I've recommended it to people at work. But really I want to keep it a secret so it won't be booked up if I want to go back again!

June 2006 - If you have the stamina to go up and down 140 or so steps (yes, I counted them!), it is well worth the effort. The view through the glass doors of the master bedroom of the Amalfi Coast with the Isle of Capri in the distance absolutely cannot be beat.

The balcony really only seats two people comfortably but, unless you plan to spend a lot of time at the house, it's really not an issue.

The town of Praiano is beautiful and is a 'living town', not really a tourist destination but the more touristy towns are easily reached by bus, a bargain at a euro a trip. I don't recommend a car as there is no place to park but it's so easy to get around, we didn't miss having one. In fact, with the roads the way they are, we were very glad not to have one!

The people in Praiano are very friendly, it has very nice restaurants, and a pleasant atmosphere. There is a place to swim in the grotto below the villa. Don't think 'beach' as there is no such thing. But the swimming is fine.

We enjoyed our time there tremendously.

August 2005 - Villa Daria is a fantastic apartment in a very romantic setting.

Loved the area as it was more local than neiboughing towns and therefore more value for money.

Typically Italian style accommodation, very special and secluded with an incredible view.

Unfortunately, Villa Daria can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
