Excellent location, nearer to the bottom of Positano

October 2023 - We loved everything about Villa Cipriana. It's in an excellent location, nearer to the bottom of Positano, making walking very easy. It's close to all the shops, restaurants, beach and port. We really enjoyed the terrace - lots of room to sit and enjoy the scenery. The kitchen had everything that we needed and the bedrooms are quite spacious.

Angela [the owner] was very attentive and helpful with all of our questions.

All of the representatives from Summer In Italy were very responsive to all of our questions. There is a feeling of trust when dealing with Summer In Italy (unlike some other companies where there is a distinct feeling of distrust).

Great location, beautiful terrace

September 2023 - Location was great! Much fewer steps to the beach than other locations. Beautiful terrace with views of the city and ocean. Wonderful beds, well appointed kitchen.

Exceptional communication. We will recommend Summer In Italy to our friends traveling to Italy!

Travel tips

  • We preferred this location closer to the beach and maybe not as high up a view as others but we found this more convenient.

August 2023 - Had an amazing time here. The location is absolutely perfect and easy access to everything in Positano. The place is clean and has everything you need including a terrace overlooking the beach and outdoor patio.

Thank you so much for having us, you have an amazing place.

Good location in the center of Positano

November 2022 - Good location in the center of Positano, near the church, 52 steps up from the pedestrian street. The house was quiet, the beds comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The terrace is very nice, with a view of the church and part of the beach, but does not have a dramatic view like places higher in town. This is the trade-off for being closer to the beach. I liked being in the center of town - close to the ferry dock, buses, restaurants, shops.

The representative is easy to contact by phone/text. Check-in and check-out went smoothly.

Summer In Italy is a very good agency for vacation rentals in Italy. They helped me choose the property and all arrangements went smoothly. Their web site is easy to use and has a lot of good travel information. I have used them before and will use them again. Highly recommended.

Travel tips

  • There is a good small grocery on the pedestrian street leading up to Piazza dei Mulini and a good bakery on Piazza dei Mulini. There are several nice cafes nearby.
  • We used Positano Car Service, near Piazza dei Mulini, to take us to Bomerano to do the Path of the Gods hike and to return us to the airport. They are very good.
  • We hired a porter to take our luggage for us when we left - next time we will hire one on arrival too.
  • The property is well located for public transportation, close to Piazza dei Mulini where you get the local buses around town, to Montepertuso and Nocelle and to Praiano. We used these buses to get to the hiking trails. You can take the local bus to the coast road (or walk about 15 mins) to get the SITA bus to Amalfi or Sorrento.
  • We did a lot of hiking in the hills above Positano using the Cicerone Guides for Walking on the Amalfi Coast. The trails are excellent and the guide gives detailed directions.

September 2019 - We absolutely loved our 5 nights in Villa Cipriana.

The terrace is amazing to eat your meals on in the summer. We love the location and being so close to everything. It was wonderful to have air conditioning & a washing machine in the house. There were no ammenities that Villa Cipriana didn't have.

We were travelling with my boyfriend's parents that were visiting us from New Zealand. It was important to them that they didn't have to climb too many stairs and they were fine with the stairs leading to Villa Cipriana.

I thought Summer In Italy customer service was exceptional and really liked the chat function when we were looking for a property! We will definitely be back next year! :)

Thank you for making it very easy for us to book & providing such comprehensive information for our arrival.

Travel tips

  • We arrived from ferry from Sorrento. We would have preferred to drive so that we could bring some supplies with us, however parking in Positano is not only tricky but rather expensive at around EUR 30-50 per day.
  • There was only one small convenience store nearby, which stocked most items we required, however they were definitely at a market up price due to having to bring the goods down into the heart of Positano.
  • If at all possible, bring supplies with you if you are planning on cooking in the wonderful kitchen.

Fantastic

June 2019 - We found Villa Cipriana to be quite wonderful.

Being Americans we are used to "big" houses so I was a little worried about how 4 of us would do in a "mere" 800 sq ft... But it was no problem at all, way more than adequate for our needs (2 adults, 2 teenage boys). The bedrooms were large, the overall upkeep and quality was excellent.

More than anything though I'd say the location is ideal. It provides a wonderful view of the sea as well as Positano itself. Some might not like the imposing dome of the adjacent cathedral but I thought it was pretty cool - gave the whole area a lot of character. It was probably not even a 2 minute walk down to the beach and restaurants etc. We did some exploring through Positano and quickly realized we could have been only slightly further away as the crow flies but it would have meant quite a hike up and down a mountain of stairs had we been somewhere else.

Travel tips

  • Must visit the wine shop, right around the corner "in front" of the cathedral. They have every grocery item you might need.
  • On a practical standpoint - turn off the water heaters in the bathrooms (controlled by a wall switch) until you need them. They are only like 2 and 5 gallons respectively so they heat up very quickly.
  • In the main bathroom the handheld shower wand gives better pressure than the wall mounted shower head. Don't run the hot water the whole time or you'll run out in about 10 minutes. Fine for 1 person but if you have several you'll be waiting for the hot water to heat up again. Best practice is to rinse up, then turn off the water and soap up, rinse again, turn off, do hair, rinse up and done. That way we never ran out and each person even had enough time for a good "soak".

October 2018 - We were pleasantly surprised to find that Villa Cipriana was even better than we expected from the booking site.

We rented 3 houses/apartments while on holiday in Italy this time. They were different and all beautiful in their own way, but Villa Cipriana was the best appointed, having thought of everything needed to create wonderful meals at home. The bedrooms and bathrooms were huge and it could not have a better location in Positano.

The caretaker, Clementina, was wonderful. We only had one fault with the door during our 2 week stay and this was repaired promptly by the owner who lives nearby.

We all would highly recommend a stay here to anyone visiting Positano.

Booking through Summer In Italy was a breeze. Everything went really smoothly. Thank you, we will definitely recommend your company to friends.

May 2018 - Villa Cipriana is an excellent villa with a perfect location.

About 65 steps down to the beach. Everything is in close proximity.

On Friday and Saturday nights you may hear people shouting in early hours returning from night clubs. But this is fun. Best choice in Positano.

Excellent. Will use your services again.

September 2016 - We really enjoyed our stay and Villa Cipriana was perfect. Wonderful view and although next to the church the bells only sounded around 7 pm which was fine.

The bedrooms were of considerable size. The kitchen facilities were great and the outside terrace if you wanted to eat in although loads of lovely restaurants if you didn't.

We would most certainly stay at Villa Cipriana again.

Thank you all arrangements from the time of looking on the website with your contact asking if we needed help was superb also you contacts for taxis etc worked really well.

Travel tips

  • The only advice I can give is everywhere in Positano has steps. Even with a porter helping with luggage you will encounter steps, so if you cannot manage steps seriously think about the location of your holiday.
  • We would really like to recommend a Amalfi Coast boat trip which includes lunch afterwards which is organised by Salvatore and Gennaro you can book on the waterfront kiosk.

Fantastic

June 2016 - Villa Cipriana is beautifully and comfortably furnished. It's light and airy throughout the day with nice views of the sea and moorings off Positano from the terrace, living room and one bedroom. The terrace is huge with two seating areas and a ceramic topped dinning tables and chairs. It's nicely shaded overhead but there's plenty of sun for tanning.

To get to the villa you will walk down a sloping pedestrian path for about 300 meters. After a short turn to the left, you climb 50 regularly spaced steps to the terrace level. The entry is 4-5 more. The beach and dock is down those steps and about 50 more.

It's a great place and well located. Angela [the owner] and her family were very attentive. We would highly recommend it.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared to do a lot of climbing. The nearest grocery is about 70 steps down. The best grocery is a very brisk 5 minute walk both down and then up. Have your groceries delivered.
  • There will be noise when Music on the Rocks closes around 3 am for one bedroom.
  • The Cathedral bells weren't an issue for us.
  • A lot of the best shops and restaurants require a hike to the bus stop and a trip on the bus unless you are up for 500 steps.
  • Car services pick up and drop off at the Farmacia near the bus stop. We strongly recommend the baggage porters at 7 Euros a piece.
  • Our favorite restaurants were Il San Pietro (125 euros per person), Cafe Positano, Wine-Dark House, Covo dei Saraceni, and Buca di Bacco.
  • Our favorite day trip was to Paestum. It was awesome.
  • Be sure to enjoy the local festivals.

March 2016 - We loved our stay at Villa Cipriana!

Right from the get-go Angela [the owner] greeted us at her shop and took us up to the villa.

The house has probably the best location in town, right next to the Church that anchors the entire town. I should mention that it was me, my wife and my young children (ages 3 and 5) so we felt that was very important for the overall enjoyment of the family to be as close as possible to the center of town - and truly - the location was perfect!

The villa felt like a home, with charming furniture... it felt like we were part of the family. Not a sterile hotel.

The house was nice and big enough, two huge bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen... but we spent most of our time on the patio... eating... drinking... laughing... living... soaking up the warm air and the Positano vibe. The patio overlooks the dome of the church, and views of the beach, it was truly spectacular!

I want to say a special "Thank You" to Angela, she went way out of her way to ensure that we were happy, she made terrific recommendations (La Tagliata!) and reservations, and even arranged for a babysitter so we could have a night out on the town. All of her recommendations were "dead on"! Thanks again! Hopefully we'll be back next year!

Travel tips

  • Go to Restaurant La Tagliata in Montepertuso! It was hands down some of the best food I've had in my life. As a bit of a foodie, I consider this a "must do" in Positano.
  • We spent a day at Tenuta San Francesco winery, and had lunch with the family! My children wanted to see farm animals so they arranged for us to go to a dairy farm and even brought us by a "famous" lemon ice stand. Great time! Highly recommended.

May 2015 - My husband and I had the opportunity to stay in Villa Cipriana for a week with our daughter and son in law. The villa surpassed all our expectations, which were quite high after viewing the website photos and descriptions.

The location is in the heart of town which makes walking anywhere convenient yet it is situated so there is not much "tourist noise". Still it is close enough to the beach that we could hear the water lapping from our bedroom balcony at night.

The villa has obviously been recently renovated and everything has been tastefully done and maintains a local ambiance. Angela, the owner could not have been more helpful or pleasant. She recommended what became some of our favorite restaurants, confirmed reservations as necessary and was always available to answer questions.

We would love to go back to Villa Cipriana and stay longer next time!

I found your website quite by accident during a web search, but i am sooo glad I used it for booking our villa it Positano. Every step of the process was easy due to your user friendly website and the prompt replies to all my questions.

Travel tips

  • Bring your i-pod... there is an i-dock in the living room, and don't pack beach towels... 4 lovely beach towels are provided.
  • We rented a small speed boat and took it over to Amalfi for the afternoon... great fun.

July 2014 - Villa Cipriana was a beautiful villa that was in a perfect location... It was quiet, with a beautiful view of the beach from our terrace, master bedroom and master bathroom.

Angela, the owner and her family were wonderful, helpful and always welcoming! Clementina who also helped us, gave us plenty of excellent recommendations for restaurants and tours to do.

We traveled with our 3 boys (ages 14, 11 and 4) and this villa was perfectly comfortable for everyone.

We will definitely be back!!

Summer In Italy was a pleasure to deal with. Thank you. We will definitely be using you again... Hope to get to Sicily in the near future!!!

Travel tips

  • Just make sure you can climb steps... Positano has plenty of stairs and hills... Keeps you in shape after eating the delicious food!
  • Shopping is amazing!!!
  • A definite trip to Capri for an entire day at least...
  • The beach is nice, but bring swim shoes if you think rocks will bother you. There are plenty of rocks... Water was beautiful.
  • The man on the beach who rents chairs needs a bit of fine tuning... He always told us the front row of chairs was reserved. I was down there first thing one morning and wanted first row to watch my kids in water since it was very rough this particular day. He told me it was taken, then another family comes by shoots the breeze with him and they are looking around and they take the first row... Very rude (surfer style guy, long blondish hair)... So I would recommend bringing your own beach chairs, it's worth it to buy them and use the public beach which is free... Rip off and you don't even get to pick where you sit.
  • Other than him and the beach chair situation, everything else was perfect.

June 2014 - It was everything that we expected and the photos are very accurate. Not too many steps to climb to get access. Bedrooms were particularly spacious and well furnished and the views were excellent.

We enjoyed staying in Villa Cipriana - very central but not noisy.

Keep doing what you do! We are planning another break in the autumn and would certainly use you again. Many thanks for everything.

Travel tips

  • Fornillo beach is better than Positano and the views on the walk are brilliant.

May 2014 - A very convenient villa in an excellent location. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The villa could do with extra seating in lounge, only one sofa at present.

We had problems getting both televisions to work. There was also the inconvenience of water/flushing noises going on all day and night! This was reported to the owner who did respond but no solution was found at the time.

We would recommend this villa without any reservations and thank Summer in Italy for all their help.

Travel tips

  • Not suitable for a young family because of the steep steps.

September 2013 - Villa Cipriana was above all of our expectations. From the owner who was extremely helpful and gracious to the fantastic location and condition of the Villa, we were overwhelmed. This property has been completely renovated and the owner has done a magnificent job of capturing the spirit of Positano in the decor.

The huge balcony overlooks the beach (we could watch the kids in the water) and a beautiful outdoor ceramic dining table.

The kitchen facilities were first class and a joy to use. The master bedroom has fantastic views and a very comfortable bed. Both bathrooms were clean and practical.

I cannot recommend this property highly enough.

Travel tips

  • As much as we loved this property, there is one decision guests need to make - view or beach. We were just 110 steps from the beach (nothing by Positano standards) and the views were beautiful and 270 degrees. To get the truly stunning views though, you would need to stay at the top of the hill. However, be warned, this would require catching a bus or taxi to the beach to avoid the vertical half hour climb. For us, the beach was a clear priority.

June 2013 - Beautiful place and very well stocked. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful. Even carrying the baby up the steps.

I had a bit of a problem as I had broken my foot the week before which made the steps a little challenging.

Travel tips

  • The villa is nestled between two hotels so one night we got two different types of live music from the terrace.
  • We were very relieved that it was pretty safe for our 11 month old toddler. Not easy to get her up and down to the villa but once we were there we could relax with her.
  • The area is pedestrian because it is so steep and full of steps. Taxis and buses have to drop you off some distance away (a bit of problem with 3 cases, a baby that needed carrying and a cripple as I had broken my foot the week before and we struggled to reach the place).

October 2012 - Villa Cipriana is outstanding, the owner Angela and her assistant Clementine were amazing. This is villa is located in the perfect spot... if you are going to Positano it is not quiet, it is humming and we loved it.

The villa is equipped like home there was nothing that we needed or wanted for. Very tastefully decorated with beautiful Positano crockery. Loved the airy rooms and clean fresh linen and towels.

I would give this place a 10/10. Beautiful country, beautiful people and beautiful villa.

Summer in Italy was amazing, from the very beginning of booking to the end. Luca and his staff were helpful in getting me information about trains, buses and taxi. Thank you for one of the best travel sites I know and I have travelled to many countries and yours is by far the friendliest and most efficient.

Travel tips

  • If you don't like walking and climbing steps then Positano is not for you. Villa Cipriana is probably the most accessible of all the villas as there were only 50 steps. Shops were literally at the bottom of these stairs.
  • Excellent restaurants. One thing to bear in mind when ordering food at the more expensive places: you need to order sides separately otherwise you get just your piece of fish or veal with nothing else.
  • Pizza to go is half the price of eating pizza to sit down

January 2011 - We really enjoyed our stay in Villa Cipriana. The views were superb and the location was just perfect.

The amenities provided by the owner covered every need we had throughout our stay.

Travel tips

  • If would advise prospective renters to double check to see if there is a festival or celebration happening on the beach during their stay. One night there was a disco that started at midnight and lasted until 5:30 AM. The music was really loud in the villa and we didn't get much sleep. Plus we had a 17 month old toddler that didn't sleep either. The next day was quite tough on everyone. [The celebration was for New Year's Eve! In Italy loud activities are generally prohibited past midnight, but on December 31st many towns organize fireworks displays, concerts, open air discos, and Italians go in the street and party through the night, often until dawn. At dawn, they will gather for breakfast with cornetto and milk or capuccino, and then they will go to sleep until it's time for the majestic New Year's dinner, around 2 pm.]

October 2009 - What a wonderful experience, quite possibly the best location in all Positano.

Walking from the bus stop to the villa is about 700 meters - fortunately it's all downhill (until you get to the villa), so consider luggage with rollers. Porters are available - contact the owner for a reference. Once you get to the villa there are 45 steps up to the entrance but the view is superb. The church is right next door and the church bell does ring at 7 am every morning.

You pay separately for electricity - our bill for the week was about Euro 20 which was deducted from our Euro 200 deposit.

If you like cooking or preparing morning coffee the kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, plates, cups, glasses etc and there are two local stores well provisioned to provide almost any food need, but food is pricey.

Travel tips

  • We found the Tre Sorrelle restaurant on the beach the best value for money.
  • A car is of little use and there is no place to park a car. The local bus and water taxi are the best means for transportation from Positano to Sorrento, Amalfi, and Salerno.
  • If we were to return to Positano we would use the water taxi to and from Salerno. The Salerno train station is about 800 meters from the Salerno water taxi and limits the number of times you must transfer luggage.
  • There is a bank about 100 meters up the hill from the villa which has a 24 hour ATM for cash withdrawls.
  • Buy your gifts in Amalfi or Sorrento.
