Amazing family get together at castle
September 2025 - We were a group of 16 celebrating a family get together and had an amazing time. The place was beyond our expectations. The service was amazing. The description and photographs in the listing do not do the castle justice. It is a difficult building with a couple of additions and no grand entrance. The only picture that does it justice is the overhead shot.
After hours of driving through the countryside passing small towns and villages you reach your destination which is quite remote. We approached the castle on a one lane road in the middle of nowhere and made a turn onto a dirt road with a badly marked sign. Go down the bumpy dirt road for 2 km with fork roads and no directions. You see a bunch of buildings and drive up to them unsure of where to be. You pull up to an unassuming door. Not all that impressive. We were greeted by Remo (the manager and owner) and Natalia (the host/server/helper)... more on that later.
There are two entrances into the castle. The front door opens to the right to a fully furnished game room, and to the left to an office and the laundry. Go up the stairs and there are a multitude of well appointed bedrooms all with attached baths. The second entrance is through a beautiful enclosed courtyard that is up a driveway. You pass a chapel before you cross the arch, have a big banquet hall on your left, and then enter into the kitchen. This is about the same level as the bedrooms from the front door. There is also a breakfast room (for 16) and two toilets on this level. A beautiful patio overlooking the pool opens out from the kitchen. There is also a separate building with a couple of bedrooms. The entire complex could easily sleep 30 people.
When you start walking up the tower building that is where the magic starts. The next level has two living rooms with balconies and great views. They are large, but not huge. Go up one more level and there are another bunch of delightful bedrooms all with attached baths. If you go up the spiral stairs you reach a bedroom fit for a princess, and then on the top level one for the queen.
The castle is seeped in history with famous connections. The grounds are manicured and well kept. The pool is beautiful. If you want to hunt, they can help you do that. Internet was great. Location is remote, but there is a lot to do in a short drive.
Before we arrived, Remo kept on insisting we order fresh bread and pastries from the local bakery for breakfast. We said no, saying we will take care of our own breakfast. With my English and his Italian a lot was lost in translation. When we arrived, the fridge was full of bubbly, cheeses, and meats for us. Natalia laid out a huge spread for us, and then cleaned up later. Every morning breakfast was laid out with fresh coffee, and the table cleared later. We had chef prepared meals (we used an outside caterer) and served in the banquet hall. It was the highlight of the trip. At all times Natalia, Remo, the caretaker, and all other staff were very helpful.
Summe In Italy is a great site. Was not aware of it. Will use it again.
