Travel tips

  • Be prepared for the very steep driveway and the timing for the electric gate.
  • Be sure to buy bufala in Capaccio and produce from the markets and roadside stands.
  • Sunset spritz overlooking the sea.
  • Good seafood and pizzas in the village, follow your nose after 9 pm.
  • Day trip early to Pompeii.
  • Visit Paestum late in the day.
  • Walk to Punta Licosa.
  • Drive down the coast and inland as well.
  • Best times on the beach are late afternoon.

June 2009 - We had a marvellous stay. Villa Barbara and the whole complex are far better than the photos suggest, although we found the Summerinitaly description very accurate. We asked Summerinitaly for an apartment that had a great view and a big terrace with a table where the four of us could eat. They delivered exactly. Our view was amazing. We had a small terrace (perfect for morning coffee and evening after dinner drinks while watching the early morning and sunset) and a large terrace with a big table, umbrella and chairs.

The apartment is very simply and recently furnished, immaculately clean, the kitchen is well equipped, exceptionally nice bathroom, and the usual very thin Italian towels although at least they were large and they provided eight large and eight small towels for the four of us which we liked.

The bedrooms are small and a bit tight for storage - don't take too much stuff! Washing machine on site is very useful.

The property manager, Anna, was very friendly and runs everything to a very high standard.

Steps to the excellent Santa Maria beach and a short walk along the beach or down a side road into town.

We can't say enough good things about how Summer In Italy worked - very well designed, information filled website; prompt, efficient reliable responses to email questions; very detailed directions; perfect accommodation in terms of what we wanted. Excellent service. .

Travel tips

  • Walk to San Marco - as the beach ends and the road starts, it goes up for a couple of hundred yards and then look for a pedestrian track to the right that follows the shoreline. Good exercise and you can reward yourself with a gelato or granita harborside. The walk back - with Castellabate on the hilltop close by and the Amalfi coast and Capri on the far horizons is absolutely gorgeous.
  • Nice restaurants also on the far side of the Santa Maria little harbor on the other part of the town's lungomare. We didn't get over there during our first stay but found it charming for walking and eating choices this time.

The views from Villa Barbara C are outstanding - we loved watching the sun set over the sea every evening.

This place is a real find and not too expensive!

September 2005 - The view from the balcony was beautiful.

The people that tend to the villa are thoughtful and attentive, service overall was excellent.

The beach water was clear and it was a very family oriented crowd.

We will definitely return to Villa Barbara next year.
