October 2010 - Our family used every bit of this large villa. I enjoyed the antique furnishings and the garden and upstairs terrace were great!

There was a nice size grocery store and coffee shop within walking distance and a very good restaurant where we were all treated like family.

Travel tips

  • Be sure to get directions for the washing machine if you plan to use it and know there is no dryer.
  • We were asked to be careful about the use of electricity which is understandable and even with our large family we stayed within a reasonable amount of use.

May 2008 - We had a great time. Villa Angelica was full of character and the owner could not have tried harder to make everything nice for us. Everyone we dealt with was absolutely lovely - caretaker, cleaner and gardener were so kind and full of good local advice.

The high ceilings and large rooms in the lower two floors made it feel very grand. The rambling garden was a great favourite with the children and we loved eating out on the roof terrace.

As with any old house (we know - we live in one too!) there were a few hiccups. On two nights we had a termite swarm in the bedrooms and one bathroom, even though Annamaria had had the wood treated earlier in the year. The fridge on the top floor was broken on and off which meant quite a few trips up and down the stairs at meal times. The dishwasher was broken and Annamaria tried to arrange for this to be fixed. This wasn't possible in the time available and she kindly arranged for the cleaner to come in daily and do our washing up. Where there were problems Annamaria went out of her way to come up with solutions, driving down from Rome mid-week on one occasion and ringing several times to check we were alright

The safety element of the property might be of concern to parents a bit less relaxed than we are. The wall along the back of the lovely garden is about waist high and on the other side is a drop of about 100 feet. The garden is large and quite overgrown, so from the house it is impossible to see children playing there. At the furthest end of the garden is a small concrete terrace with an even bigger drop and the railings here were loose. The roof terrace too is very high, with only a waist-high wall around it. As one of the previous guests has written, the front door (thankfully too heavy for children to cope with, but one of ours nearly slipped out while we were distracted after opening it ourselves) opens straight onto a busy narrow road - no pavement at all and a bit noisy at night sometimes.

Walking to the beach was a bit of an ordeal with four small children - less the distance/climb back and more the walking along the side of the busy road for two or three hundred metres. We should have followed Annamaria's advice and used the car from the outset! But it was always worth the trip - an ideal beach for little ones, with calm water and crab fishing off the breakwaters for the older ones

Annamaria: thank you so much for working so hard to make things right for us. You have a lovely home and we feel privileged to have been able to use it.

Travel tips

  • Do not hire a big car! The entrance to the garage is very narrow and getting the car into it off the road might be difficult.

October 2006 - Its lovely! Our group was very happy there!

The owner and the caretaker were very nice and we were happy to meet them.

The place is like an old castle, and we enjoyed the lovely garden as well as the rooftop terrace. The stairs would be difficult for anyone with hip or knee problems but we were fine.

It was a pleasure to have this place for home!

Excellent website, good advice, and good idea of what the place was like.

Travel tips

  • Make transportation contacts with www.johnnytourservice.com. Giovanni Maresca was wonderful in taking us to see the Amalfi coast and the whole Sorrento area... this contact was the best advice we could give anyone staying in this villa... it made our stay superb. Make these arrangements before leaving home and he will be there to meet your train in Naples!
  • Basic groceries were gotten at the DICO.
  • The restaurant around the corner on Via delle Rose called Il Chico offered pizza and great meals!

May 2006 - Villa Angelica was most comfortable and enjoyable. We had our breakfast and evening cocktail hour on the terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples. It was quite beautiful and pleasant.

Four of the bedrooms left something to be desired by American standards, but that was more than offset by the lovely living area, the beautiful grounds, gardens and views, but most of all by the friendly people who operate the villa.

Senoria Anna Maria [the owner] is a delightful lady and most accommodating and helpful. Senoria Emma [the caretaker] is the best cook in all of Italy, making the most delicious and eye-pleasing dishes – she cooked for us three times during our stay and the prices were quite reasonable.

Socializing and dinner at the villa is reminiscent of the Italian way of living a couple of hundred years ago – bellissimo!

April 2006 - Our overall experience at Villa Angelica was great.

The front door(s) and garage locations are dangerous as they open directly to a busy street. Great caution must be taken when stepping outside the Villa.

Overall, we enjoyed the property very much. There were plenty of bedrooms for the 10 of us, and we each got plenty of exercise climbing the 52 stairs each night!

We particularly enjoyed the huge dining room and held beautiful dinners there each evening. We also enjoyed both patios/decks. The top deck provided a beautiful view of the sea, and the bottom deck had the beautiful ambiance of the very large lush green garden.

I would definitely recommend this Villa to others guests. Its location is very convenient to the local grocery store and a short distance to the train station.

I loved this 1870 Villa. It's massive in size and feels a little bit haunted. Haunted in a safe and protective way, not in a scary way. Staying at the Villa was a total pleasant experience (for all 10 of us).

Overall, the Villa Angelica is spectacular! The garden is huge and beautifully kept. The top patio has a wonderful view of the sea and provides gorgeous sunsets. We had a wonderful experience and a very memorable stay.

Unfortunately, Villa Angelica can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
