Lovely, clean, tastefully and simply decorated little apartment

October 2019 - This lovely, clean, tastefully and simply decorated little apartment had everything we needed, and was so welcoming after our week dealing with the Venice crowds.

Great views and quiet peaceful surroundings. Gave us the feeling of staying at a Tuscan villa, but reasonably close to the main part of Florence.

Our host Mr. Simone was wonderful and so helpful during our stay. He was wonderful and we enjoyed talking and getting acquainted with him.

We would go back and stay there again for a longer vacation.

I get your newsletters and have for many years. When planning this trip it seemed like the logical place to look for places to stay, as we really didn't want to stay in hotels. After reading some stories about problems with other booking agents Summer In Italy stood out because you specialized in locations throughout Italy and checked them out. You made booking easy, and stayed in communication with me throughout the process, which I appreciate. The instruction letter with the voucher for each location was very informative about the differences we would find in Italy, as well as the details of the apartments we stayed at.

Travel tips

  • We realize that as Americans we take for granted certain amenities we are used to. These amenities are not always available in other countries. Things like no screens on the windows, only means you need insect repellent especially to avoid mosquitoes. We learned to adapt and enjoy what was available to us and embrace the differences.
  • There is a train station not far from the house that will get you to central Florence and all the tourist attractions. Don't be put off by the graffiti you find there, and in other places.
  • This station has only a machine to buy your tickets. You can also take a bus, but again you need to buy your ticket before getting on the bus, from a machine or kiosk, and both buses and trains require you to validate the ticket via another machine.
  • Do your research on the train system, which is a major form of transportation in Italy, to avoid confusion. We ended up taking a few side trips we hadn't planned, but all turned out just fine.
  • If you plan to visit any of the major attractions buy your tickets ahead of time, or plan your trip during a less crowded time of year, as the lines can be long.
  • Mostly just relax and enjoy your stay, and explore the area.
