Best vacation ever

August 2016 - We stayed at Le Bouganville the first week in August 2016 and enjoyed celebrating the festival of San Domenico most of the week in Praiano.

The house is just as pictured on the website. There are wonderful views of the Mediterranean just outside the bedroom shutters. Yes, there are stairs, so this is not a house for those who have difficulty with stairs. But it was as we expected, and better! We trekked up and down the stairs multiple times, to town and La Gavitella beach, all without any difficulties.

We visited the limoncello factory (Il Gusto della Costa) where Mario gave us a private tour, and the ceramic factory (LizArt) in town. We used Claudio Lucibello (and his assistant Rosario) to drive our family from Naples train station to the villa and back again at the end of the week, as well as to Pompeii, Ercolano and Bomerano. Claudio and Rosario were both excellent drivers, allowing all of us to enjoy the sites and not worry about the scooters weaving in and out of the traffic. We also took a day boat tour of the Amalfi coast and Capri with Amalfi Charter.

I stumbled upon the website SummerinItaly.com when looking for information about Italy almost 2 years ago, and have had only wonderfully positive results. I enjoyed the newsletter, which only reinforced my plan to stay on the Amalfi coast. I reserved Le Bouganville, and had multiple questions which were answered promptly and in much detail by Luca and others by both phone and email. I would certainly highly recommend BOTH Summer In Italy and Le Bouganville, and would consider returning.

My adult children said this Summer in Italy vacation was the best vacation ever (and we have been on a lot!)

Travel tips

  • We had a driver take us to Bomerano and then walked the "Walk of the Gods" turning down to Praiano. In retrospect, we would have still started at Bomerano, but would have considered walking all the way to Positano. It was an easy walk on the plateau, and a harder trail down to the town of Praiano. Avoid walking the stairs up from town to the trail - it is steep.
  • On the boat, we thought we wanted to see the Blue Grotto of Capri, but the backlog of boats was huge even early in the morning. Instead, we had great tours of Emerald and White grottoes, a great lunch spot and a nice swimming spot in a cave picked out by our Captain Aguirre.

Amazing

July 2016 - Le Bouganville is amazing. Our families had a great time.

You have an awesome place! The kitchen just didn't have so much bench space but still pretty great. Thank you for having us!

Great service will definitely recommend Summer In Italy to friends and family and hope to book with you in the future!

Travel tips

  • Lots of stairs but worth the great view. Perfect!

September 2015 - We had a great stay at Le Bouganville and we would recommended to any future guests.

Keep up the good work!

Travel tips

  • If you rent a car to get there please consider a small car. We were a party of six and rented a 9-seater van which was a nightmare to park and drive on the narrow roads.

August 2015 - We had an amazing holiday. Le Bouganville was perfect and the views were stunning.

The owners were extremely helpful and always available to help.

Your service has been impeccable. Thank you very much.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared for the steps and make sure you are familiar with the buses before you try and use them.

Travel tips

  • The hotel in town was gracious enough to let us use their pool for 15 Euro. Loved it on those hot days.
  • We rented a boat for the day for 8 of us and HIGHLY recommend Lucibello. They were AWESOME. That day made our trip. Thanks to Dario, our captain.

October 2013 - Great place to stay. Excellent views and very peaceful.

Owner is a gentleman and will help you in whatever form he can. He goes out of his way to make your trip comfortable and takes care of your needs.

Villa has 3 bedrooms with attached bathrooms with each room and a spare bathroom. There is a separate cottage on the lower level which has its own kitchen and is self sufficient.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Travel tips

  • Villa has many steps climb from the main village street. There is a road that will take the car closer to the villa but still you will have 100 meters to walk with few steps. So Travel light.
  • If you have luggage, owner can arrange for porters (as he did for us)!
  • This is a great place to stay with EXCELLENT view and outdoor seating and a garden terrace.

Very good

July 2013 - We loved Le Bouganville, lovely space, nicer even than the internet images suggest.

Travel tips

  • Guests must be in good physical condition as Praiano is a vertical town, and it takes many stairs up or down to go anywhere.
  • Take a boat ride with Salvatore from Praiano to view the Amalfi coast and have an amazing seaside lunch.

July 2013 - We loved our one week stay at Le Bouganville in Praiano.

Praiano is a small town between the larger, more touristy towns of Positano and Amalfi. Le Bouganville has a view that is beyond compare --Positano to our right, Conca dei Marini to our left, Li Galli and Capri in the distance! There was nothing better than to lounge on the lawn in the chaise lounges, soaking up the sun and the gorgeous view.

The house is well-equipped and well-maintained. Alessandro is a perfect host -- he met us at the bus stop and helped transport all our luggage up the hill (and down when we left) so that it was much easier to get to his house. He even gave us an Italian cell phone so that we could contact him if we needed anything. He gave us lots of tips on groceries (they delivered!) and other things in Praiano and the Amalfi coast in general.

We would love to go back.

Travel tips

  • The Amalfi Coast is vertical in nature -- so you have to be prepared for steps and inclines. There were 234 steps to Le Bouganville from the main street, and some of them were steep. So, you plan your trips carefully (and there is a local bus that can take you much of the way up if you plan it right), but the benefit is that you get in shape going up and down the steps. But, if it weren't so vertical, you wouldn't have the unparalleled view that you have from the front of the house. The view is worth the exercise!!!
  • We took a day trip to Capri with La Sibilla and it was wonderful -- wish we'd had more time in Capri to explore.
  • The Praiano-Positano bus is great for getting to Positano (11 km away), and SITA is perfect for getting around. No need to have a car (and parking would be an issue).

Fantastic

June 2013 - Le Bouganville was in a great location and wonderful views of Praiano and Positano. Very secure and lots of space. Everything we needed was there.

The website very accurately outlined what to expect and we were not disappointed.

We were very happy with the service and advice received from Summer in Italy. I would definitely use your site again and recommend to my friends.

Travel tips

  • I counted 237 stairs from the main street to our front door but that's Amalfi [or walk up the road and then you only have about 60 steps to climb]. Future guests who are not fit enough to climb this many stairs may like to consider accommodation closer to the main street. Pack light as lugging heavy bags up and down the stairs as we did, was certainly challenging.

June 2013 - Absolutely loved everything about Le Bouganville. It was amazing. Beautiful grounds, spacious, just incredible. We will be back. Also a great surprise, there are 3 bedrooms and guest bathroom on the second level and a bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom on the first floor. Two terraces, outside shower, fresh herbs in the garden and very modern kitchen. Great water pressure and fantastic cookware.

Just cannot explain how beautiful the views of Praiano and Positano were. Met wonderful people, extremely happy. Also were provided with a cell phone by the owner so we could call locally at no charge. Local market delivers groceries no charge.

Very satisfied and top notch service.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared to walk and pack lightly, great exercise.

Fantastic

May 2013 - Really enjoyed the villa. Alessandro [the caretaker] met us when we arrived. He was very helpful, showed us how everything worked. He was also available by phone throughout our 2 week stay.

The villa was well equipped. There were six adults and we had plenty of space. The garden and patio were wonderful. The peaceful village location was excellent. The views were awesome.

Booking through Summer In Italy was very easy and straightforward. Would definitely use them again.

Travel tips

  • Really enjoyed local eateries. Che Bonta has great pizza and they deliver. Restaurant M'ama, Il Pirata (on the beach) and Trattoria San Gennaro were all good. Also had great coffee at Café Sole and Bar Sibilla.
  • Be aware that from the main road it is over 200 steps to the villa. However you can take the long way and go up the steep road, this way only has about 50 steps.
  • Best day out was a boat trip booked through La Boa, Gabriella was incredible and our day on the boat with Raffaele was amazing.
  • Public transportation was reliable, however the buses were very busy especially trying to return to Praiano from either Amalfi or Positano.

Fantastic

October 2012 - We did enjoy Le Bouganville, but would not recommend it for people our age (70-75). There are 260 steps to reach the villa from Praiano. The alternate route requires a walk up hill on roads with no walkway and my best guess is over 500 metres and then climbing about 50 steps.

The villa itself is very nice and Alessandro [the owner] was very accommodating.

Travel tips

  • The SITA bus stop is at Cafe Sibilla. Right below the villa at the main road.
  • A grocery store is just to your right as you descend the stairs and the post office is to the left.
  • There were many good eating places. I liked the take-away food place also to the left and the wine bar to the right the best.

Unfortunately, Le Bouganville can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
