July 2012 - My spouse and I rented Casa Lory B the third week in July, 2012. We enjoyed it greatly, as a quiet alternative to Bellagio, with a small Italian Village feel, high quality furnishings, and convenience to all the wonders of Lake Como.

While the lane into the apartment complex was a challenge, we learned to fold in the side mirrors and it took care the problem. Also, there are two wonderful restaurants within easy walking distance, IttiTurismo Mella in San Giovanni itself and Alle Darsene in nearby Loppia. Both were wonderful, with Alle Darsene one of the best in Como region.

This is our second year with Summer in Italy, we love working with you. You saved us on arrival in a drenching rain storm on Saturday night, because the key road sign was missing and we could not find the turn off to Casa Lory. By having someone on the phones at 6 pm on Saturday, you were able to connect us with the owner when I could not get them on the phone (my fault).

Travel tips

  • The owner of IttiTurismo is one of Lake Como's 75 commercial fishermen, He took me out one evening and taught me the lore of fishing the lake. You need a little Italian to get the full benefit of his descriptions. 20 Euro.
  • You really don't have to have a car if you are a good walker. The grocery store is a bit of a hike, but the bus, and the Lake Como Ferries take you wherever you want to go. There is a little tourist shuttle that you can ride all day for 5 euros.
