A small, "slow food" restaurant in the heart of Orvieto, the Antica Cantina is a popular place. It is also known as "L'Osteria delle Donne," and the women in the kitchen are masters of their domain. This special osteria is an excellent choice for vegetarians and those with celiac, as they have gone to great lengths to offer a vast and tasty array of dishes for both, and without having to reserve those dishes in advance. (Meat eaters aren't left out of the game, though; there's plenty of Umbrian meat plates available for you, too!)

There are a few tables outside on the piazetta and the small dining room offers another handful of tables. (Reserve if you want to be assured a spot without a long wait.)

The food is prepared using mostly local and organic ingredients, including produce from their own garden. They adhere to the "Slow Food" concept of good, regional, sustainable foods that are prepared fresh to order (so don't be surprised if it takes a bit of time). Enjoy the nibbles and fresh bread and good local Orvieto wine in the meantime! Welcoming and cordial, they also take their food seriously.
