Would definitely return

October 2016 - My wife and I had a great time in Positano! Villa Amica is in a great location. The house had everything we needed and was very clean with great appliances. Loved the cappuccino machine!

Would definitely return to Villa Amica if the Amalfi Coast becomes a travel destination for us in the future.

Great experience with Summer In Italy, referred by a friend.

Travel tips

  • Only about fifty or so steps down from where the local bus stops.
  • There are many shops and restaurants on the walk down to town where the beaches and marina are located.
  • The return bus trip is only about 10 minutes.

Everything was wonderful!!!

August 2016 - The views from Villa Amica were breath taking. Everything was wonderful!!!

I would like to thank Melanie from being such a wonderful help with our stay on the Amafi Coast. She is the best! Melanie's cousin Michael who was our driver was also the best. They both made our trip something that will remember for a very long time. If you need a driver just ask Melanie for her cousin Michael, you will not be disappointed. Because of these two wonderful people, I would plan another trip with Summer In Italy...

Travel tips

  • The only tip that I can give is be ready for a wonderful experience, and enjoy all the comforts that Villa Amica has to offer.
  • To give any advice on what to see and where to shop, has to be a personal experience for everyone.
  • The bus stop is at the top of the hill. This made commuting to and from down town Positano a pleasure.

Had a fabulous time

June 2016 - We had a fabulous time at Villa Amica. As it was our first time to Positano, we didn't appreciate the layout with the many hills and steps. But we adapted. We would love to stay here again, but are also interested in other villas with a similar view but perhaps less steep stairs inside the villa.

The owners were wonderful and very accommodating. We highly recommend this villa.

Travel tips

  • Not advisable for anyone with hip/knee injuries or difficulty walking. Other than that this is a gem.

Thoroughly enjoyed it!

May 2016 - We thoroughly enjoyed Villa Amica. The house was clean and comfortable. The views were wonderful. The location made it easy to get to the fish market, butcher, vegetable market, bus and city center.

Thanks so much for your hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Villa Amica.

Travel tips

  • Our two favorite day trips: gastronomic trekking at the Metafarm and the "Walk of the Gods" hike with Zia Lucy. Both were awesome!

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

May 2016 - Most amazing stay at Villa Amica. The place was incredible and the owners were great as well. The views and the villa far exceeded our expectations. Book this place if given the chance. You will not be disappointed. Guaranteed!

Keep up the great work and thank you for a wonderful stay!

Overall and absolutely pleased with Summer In Italy. The staff was very responsive and helpful. 5 star service. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning a trip in Italy. I will use the Summer In Italy service for sure next time I travel to Italy.

Travel tips

  • Walk down the steps into the main shopping, eating and beach area. Take the bus back up.
  • The bus stop is right outside on the street above the villa. Just make sure you take in Interno Positano bus and not the one that goes to Praiano.

October 2015 - A beautiful house, with a wonderful view. Very clean with full amenities.

A pleasant walk down hill via the road or steps to the main shopping area and beach/boats to Capri. The local bus will take you back up the hill for 1.30 Euro. Easy walk to public transportation to visit other villages along the Amalfi Coast as well as to Sorrento and then on to Pompeii. Also close to a variety of small grocery outlets.

We really enjoyed our one week there.

Thank you for your ongoing interest and follow-up. Your service has been wonderful.

Travel tips

  • The internal steps within the villa are very steep, and one has to go down the steps to access the toilet/bathroom. For visitors with a nighttime need to visit the bathroom often, they may find this a bit daunting.

July 2015 - Quite simply Villa Amica was the most beautiful place we have ever stayed.

The space, the view, and of course it being in Positano. It provided our family a perfect place to be and enjoy our time together.

We loved every moment. It was heaven.

I absolutely fell in love with the country and its people (even its drivers).

As to why we booked with Summer In Italy, it was word of mouth. Close friends had booked with them 2-3 years ago and had an equally magical experience.

Travel tips

  • Be ready for the walking necessary up and down the steps. Not really a big news flash.
  • With a full week to explore, we found day trips to Capri and Amalfi to be wonderful additions to our time in Positano.

June 2015 - Villa Amica was a fantastic place to stay while visiting Positano.

The house had everything necessary to enjoy our week. The kitchen and it's layout was perfect for cooking and entertaining. We especially enjoyed the coffee machine... We also were impressed with the garbage and recycling calendar - once we figured it out! The bathroom was huge and perfect for us. The bedrooms were large and well appointed. Having a washing machine and dishwasher was a big plus! We enjoyed the whole place, especially the two large terraces. The view was spectacular wherever you looked. It's a place that is wonderful to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing or after going to the beach.

Keep doing what you are doing! It all works! One important piece we really liked was the black book on the coffee table that listed all the important things we needed to know about the property and also where to eat and shop. I wish more places had something so detailed for their visitors! Keep that black book up to date with all the restaurants and shops, it's a keeper.

Summer In Italy is very easy to work with, and very prompt in answering our questions.

Travel tips

  • Lots of steps - make sure that you are in good shape as there are steps inside the house and outside. Does keep you in shape!
  • The little market not far from the steps leading up to the road was wonderful - they were very patient and helpful every time we visited.
  • Actually, we enjoyed all the shopkeepers and every place we went.

May 2015 - Villa Amica was wonderful!

The house is clean, well appointed and comfortable. The view was spectacular, far exceeding our expectations. The two bedrooms are located up a steep flight of stairs from the living room area, so be careful on these steps.

The house is very well located, high enough to enjoy a great view yet close to the center/beach of Positano. We always walked down to the beach but there is a bus stop conveniently located at the top of the lane where the property is located.

The owners, Silvio and Gianluca, were very cordial and helpful. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short because our daughter fell and got hurt, and they were very helpful in helping us.

We were heart broken to have to leave this wonderful house in such a beautiful location and would definitely stay at Villa Amica again!

I am so glad I booked through Summer In Italy. The customer service was amazing to the point where I wonder if they ever sleep. Every inquiry was answered promptly, they provided helpful tips and information, and the instructions for arrival and check in were very clear. I highly recommend and would definitely use Summer In Italy again. Thank you to everyone for a great experience!

Travel tips

  • Note that Positano is built along the hillside and there are many steps.
  • In Positano the food was wonderful. We especially enjoyed the restaurant along the walk from the main beach to Fornillo beach. It had an amazing view and great food.
  • Another great restaurant was Il Capitano, which feels as if it is hanging over the water. To reach it, walk to the bottom of the street where Villa Amica is located and go right. It is a short walk up the hill.
  • We took the fast boat to Capri and had a great day taking the chairlift to Monte Solaro and hiking to Villa Jovis which was a castle built by Tiberius.

Very good

May 2015 - Villa Amica was well equipped [only thing we found missing was grater for parmesan], clean and spacious. There was a choice of two terraces with fantastic views of Positano and the coast and included tables for outdoor dining and relaxing seats. We would definitely recommend the villa but you need to be fairly fit which applies to all of Positano.

Gianluca, the owner called in on several occasions to make sure everything was ok.

Found Summer In Italy a friendly and helpful site to use.

Travel tips

  • Keep some tickets handy for the local bus if you don’t want to walk up and down the hill into town.
  • If you are getting the bus from Sorrento check the timetable on the Internet a few weeks before your journey for updated info.

April 2015 - Villa Amica and the views are amazing. We enjoyed Villa Amica so much that we returned for a second time.

There are pictures of Villa Amica and the views of Positano on the Summer In Italy website. Being there in person is even more impressive than any picture!

The owners are fantastic. Friendly and helpful people, they are there if you need assistance, speak English very well and can answer questions you have about your travel plans. We stayed over the week of Easter, and they even gave our family a welcoming Easter gift. We would like to say "thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant".

We cannot think of any way for the staff of Summer In Italy to improve. They are friendly and helpful and work to make things run smoothly.

Travel tips

  • Positano serves as an excellent base for visiting the Amalfi Coast and surrounding area.
  • Using public transportation, we were able to make day trips to Capri and Pompeii.
  • This year we took the ferry to Amalfi and the bus to Ravello.
  • We recommend walking down from Ravello to Amalfi. It is an easy downhill walk and you will pass also through Atrani, a beautiful village.
  • We hiked the Walk of the Gods, which is beautiful beyond belief. We took the bus to Praiano, then walked up to Nocelle. This is more strenuous, about 600 meter or 200 foot elevation gain, but well worth the effort.

October 2014 - Villa Amica was excellent and very well equipped!

Nice touches from the owners with the basic supplies (including coffee for the amazing automatic espresso machine) and a bowl of fresh fruit.

The service and orientation were great. One of the best locations in Italy we have ever stayed at.

We had a great stay and we would not change anything! If we ever return to Positano, we will certainly book here again.

Great service from Summer In Italy. We will use you for other locations on future travels.

Travel tips

  • It is Positano, be prepared for the stairs!
  • Walk down, ride up. Easy!
  • Buy bus tickets for the internal bus.
  • Do the "Walk of the Gods" and save a day for the beach.

August 2014 - Villa Amica is a fantastic house. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to our friends.

We enjoyed the beautiful outlook sitting on the terrace at afternoon/evening enjoying a drink at the sunset.

It overlooks the sea and the town and is an easy walk down to the beach for a swim, which is lovely. It is a good walk back up the steps to the villa but, if you don't want to tackle the steps, then the road is an easier option.

Loved it, loved it, loved it!

The service Summer In Italy provided was really top class. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • There is a good general store at the top of the hill near the Bar Internazionale. Can get most supplies from there and at a reasonable price.
  • Try the bulk wine, take a 2 liters plastic bottle up to the shop and you will be pleasantly surprised by both the quality and price.
  • The butchers sell quality meat - sausages and kebabs are great for the BBQ whilst enjoying the view from the house.
  • Highly recommend the restaurant that is right up above Positano. Can't remember the name but it is a family run business, using produce the family grow themselves. Courtesy bus will pick you up and return and it is a must. Great food and value (you won't want to eat the next day as there is so much good).
  • Positano is central to so many beautiful places and is a perfect base. Ravello, Praiano, Amalfi, Pompeii and many other places are close by.
  • Recommend at least a week.
  • Buses and ferries are easy to use.

August 2014 - Villa Amica is a beautiful house with every modern convenience and a spectacular view.

Gianluca and his brother [the owners] were extremely helpful and welcoming. They left us with a book they'd put together of very thorough information about Positano.

Our only challenge was the walk to the beaches and back. We had thought we could take the bus back up to the villa but because it was August, the buses were packed. In order to get this spectacular view, you have to be high up and that entails a lot of climbing. My husband and I are in our fifties so it was a challenge. On the positive side, all that climbing allowed us to eat more pasta!

We enjoyed every minute of our stay there! Just beautiful!

We had a very good experience with Summer in Italy. Very reliable and responsive to our questions. My sister had used Summer In Italy and recommended them.

Travel tips

  • Instead of taking the steps up and down to the Spiaggia Grande beach, take the road down. It's a bit easier.
  • We loved Restaurant Next2.
  • Take the ferry to Ravello -- a beautiful nearby town with unbelievable views. Don't take the bus!
  • We enjoyed our day trip to Capri.

July 2014 - Villa Amica is a very smart villa, clean and well presented with nice furnishings and well-equipped. Nice terraces for al fresco dining. We used the BBQ one night with no problems.

Excellent position with stunning views that we never tired of gazing at. Good position in the town with local food shopping for excellent fish, meat, etc. Good local restaurants without having to walk too far. Easy access to the local Positano bus stop and also buses to Sorrento and Amalfi.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the owner (and his brother) were most helpful - being locals they have good advice on shops, restaurants, travel etc. They speak good English and are very pleasant to talk to. The owner showed us how to get the best channel on TV for watching the World Cup.

If you can managed the steps up to the road, this must be one of the nicest villas in Positano for 4 people, with stunning location, very well presented and very helpful (and non-intrusive) owner. Would be very happy to stay again at Villa Amica and to recommend it.

We decided to book with Summer In Italy because: a) they have an excellent website which made it easy to specify and search for properties; b) they were helpful in suggesting properties; c) they were very easy and pleasant to deal with and kept us well-informed.

Travel tips

  • Bar Internazionale (at the junction of the Positano and Sorrento roads) has excellent pastries.
  • Very good butcher just around the corner and fruit/veg shops and mini-marts close by.
  • Good selection of restaurants going down the hill - prices rise the nearer you get to the beach.
  • Good (cheaper) local restaurant just past the butchers.
  • We visited Amalfi and Pompeii, and hired a self drive motor-boat (EUR 80 for 4 hours) from the beach - great fun.

June 2014 - Absolutely enjoyed our stay at Villa Amica.

It is located towards the top of the town so it's a nice walk down to the beach. It was a more residential area so we felt like we were one of the locals. There were many good restaurants very close as well.

The views were fantastic!

Gianluca was a perfect host, very kind. We enjoyed talking with him when he stopped by during the week, he was always asking if everything was ok and if we needed anything to just let him know.

May 2014 - We loved Villa Amica -- it is perhaps the best vacation rental we have stayed at.

This is a very well-maintained villa and the view from the outdoor terrace is even more spectacular than one can imagine or capture in a photo!

Owners Gianluca and Silvio were both very helpful and ensured we were familiar with the property and area. We really enjoyed the amenities or "extra touches" that they included to make the villa special.

Travel tips

  • If there is a place you must include on your bucket-list, Villa Amica in Positano is it. There are steps above and below, but this should not discourage you from this property (unless you have very bad knees or disabled).
  • We were advised that a car was not necessary and we were very please with the local orange bus service which, for a few euros, took us to us to Nocelle for a spectacular view.
  • Wonderful Nocelle restaurant and gateway to the Path of the Gods.

October 2013 - Stunningly beautiful villa with the most gracious hosts!

From the booking web site, we know that the villa is nice, but didn't expect it to be breathtakingly beautiful! The house is above the village, so we get to live with the locals and stay away from all the noise and hustles of the town square. It was so well equipped, spotlessly clean, bright and spacious. Oh, and the view! I doubt that any hotels in Positano could have as beautiful a view as this house. I could see sunrise, sunset over the village and ocean below. And on our last night, there was a party in one of the places downtown, and we could hear the old Italian songs echo through the mountain wall up to our window. It was magical!

We obviously love the house, but we love our hosts even more! Upon arrival, Silvio warmly welcomed us, helped us with the luggage, carefully and attentively showed us around the house. Gianluca stopped by one day when we were on our way out to dinner to drop off new towels and make sure that we have everything we need. When we got home, a bottle of wine was left for us on the porch. Only later we found out that Gianluca knew it was my birthday that night and thoughtfully brought it to me. On the day we left, since both our hosts had to work, a friend of them came and carry all the suitcases up to the main street. He even insisted to wait until our driver came so he could load the suitcases in the car for us! We were so touched by how nice and caring the people of Positano are!

We are very happy with our stay and so would you!

August 2013 - We had a fabulous week at Villa Amica.

The house was very well-equipped and we enjoyed cooking out on the terrace some evenings. The view was amazing and we sat out there a lot to eat meals and relax.

The brothers who owned the villa were very friendly and helpful, and stopped by a couple of times to give us fresh towels and check we had everything we needed.

The house was very clean and comfortable. There was a bus stop nearby and also a small shop where we purchased fresh fruit and vegetables... and prosecco... everyday.

The villa had a very useful library of guide books which helped us to plan our sightseeing.

Villa Amica is wonderful! Thank you for a fabulous week.

Travel tips

  • The walk down into the town involved a lot of steps so sometimes we would take the internal Positano bus on the way back up to the villa.
  • We also used one of the SITA buses to go to Sorrento and then took the train to Pompeii. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Another lovely day trip was to Capri. I highly recommend the chair-lift up Monte Solaro at Anacapri.
  • We took the boat to Amalfi and then the bus up to Ravello. Beautiful views. We walked down (1,100 feet!).
  • One night we went to La Tagliata for dinner and they provided a shuttle service which picked up/dropped off close by. Go with an empty stomach... tons of food!

June 2013 - Villa Amica exceeded our expectations! The views from the bedrooms and terraces were phenomenal and the place was perfect for 4 adults.[the owner]Wi-fi was great for looking up information on day trips, restaurants, etc. and the little stereo with iPod dock was such a nice touch for having background music!

Having a washing machine and dishwasher were unexpected luxuries (we're from New York). It was comfortable, clean, bright, high-ceilinged, and freshly painted. Wish we could have stayed longer!

I thought Summer In Italy's staff was awesome -- efficient, clear, and concise. I was surprised at how quickly and thoroughly they responded to my (numerous!) emails.

Travel tips

  • Hands down, the best meal we had was at Ristorante da Vincenzo. A bit pricey but great meal.
  • We loved the vibe at Casa e Bottega -- a calming, modern "seaside rustic" cafe/oasis.
  • Our favorite part of the trip was hiking The Path of the Gods. Regarding the apartment, the stairs inside the apartment are fairly steep -- we were fine, but if you have knee issues, going up and down the stairs may be a bit hard. But there is a wall mounted motorized chairlift that is installed along the handrail (we didn't use it though so can't rate that).

June 2012 - We loved Villa Amica. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained, spacious, light and bright and sitting on the terrace for breakfast with the amazing view each morning was wonderful. We enjoyed a drink each night on the terrace watching the sun go down and the lights of Positano come up - truly beautiful.

The villa has everything you would possibly need, a really good laundry, two outside areas to sit and enjoy the view, is close to a small supermarket that catered for the majority of our needs and is close to the bus stop.

The owners were thorough in explaining everything to us, helped us with our luggage into the apartment and drove us to the bus stop when we left. They checked on us a couple of times during our stay to make sure all was OK. To top that they also left us a lovely large bowl of fresh fruit on the dining table.

I would not hesitate in recommending the villa and we hope to return ourselves. It was fantastic.

Summer in Italy was great - the instructions and attention to detail was greatly appreciated. Everything was explained in detail so there were no surprises when we arrived. Thanks for that. We booked with you because you had the property we thought would best suit us and then during the process you made it so easy. We have recommended both Summer In Italy and Villa Amica to others since our visit. We would definitely use both again.

Travel tips

  • One of our favourite trips was to Ravello - catch the Sita bus to Amalfi and then another bus up the hill to Ravello - great restaurants and a lovely village to wander through.
  • We also caught the local bus to Nocelle (small distance up the hill from Positano) and had lunch there - much quieter village and nice to get away from the bustle.

June 2012 - We thoroughly enjoyed Villa Amica. It is very well positioned and Silvio and Gianluca were wonderful hosts. It has spectacular views and was a wonderful base from which to explore the Amalfi Coast. Highly recommended.

Our hosts welcomed us warmly and helped with our departure which we really valued.

We will recommend Summer In Italy and Villa Amica to other friends intending to travel to Italy. We were very pleased with you and this particular villa. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • If you cannot manage steps do not go to Positano. There are local buses but it is not a great place for anyone who is not able to manage steep hills or flights of steps.

May 2012 - Villa Amica was truly a find. With 4 adults we had plenty of space, a very workable kitchen, and a relaxed and comfortable week in this beautiful villa.

Silvio and Gianluca were attentive hosts always wanting to make sure everything was to our liking. We really appreciated the help given with our luggage when it was time to leave. Silvio came with his car and transported us and luggage to the centre of town to make our ferry connection to Capri.

We really hated to leave this gorgeous setting having basked in the sun out on the terraces, eaten wonderfully cooked meals from the kitchen and slept in comfortable beds.

Travel tips

  • Great location to get to from the bus stop at the Bar Internazionale as well as good exposure for the morning sun and views of Positano.
  • Lots of stairs to town but anyone going to Positano will know you can't go anywhere without doing stairs.
  • Good little market up the street where we purchased fresh produce and wine.
  • If you decide to do the Path of the Gods from Bomerano make sure the buses are running and avoid doing the 2000 stairs from Nocelle. We somehow missed the town centre where there would have been a bus option.

April 2012 - We loved our stay at the Villa Amica.

It's an incredibly lovely and spacious home. Gianluca [the owner] and his family do a terrific job maintaining and updating the home. It's even prettier than in the photos. The view from the outside is stunning. We loved sitting on the terrace eating meals and drinking wine.

Gianluca was a very caring and generous host. He provided olive oil, balsamic vinegar, coffee, and sugar as well as a bowl of fruit. He also dropped off an enormous chocolate Easter egg!

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Amica. Thanks to Gianluca and family and to Summer In Italy!

Your company and staff were great to deal with. Very quick responses to emails, and very clear and helpful information. We were very pleased with our interactions with your company and would be delighted to book with you again.

Travel tips

  • Positano is a very steep town. We knew this but were still a little suprised that there was so little "horizontal" walking space. You really do need to be prepared for lots of steep steps and streets.
  • We took trekking poles which were incredibly helpful. We highly recommend!
  • Learn about the SITA and local Positano bus schedules. Gianluca had a current schedule in the house which was very helpful. We'd advise getting the earlier SITA buses around 8 or 9 in the morning. These buses fill up fast and can get very crowded
  • Our favorite restaurant in Positano was Restaurant Lo Guarracino on the pathway between the beaches. We had fabulous pizzas and the views were incredible.
  • We also made day trips to Amalfi, Ravello, and Sorrento. All three are wonderful towns, but we particularly liked Ravello, because it was quieter and had such breathtaking views.
  • Enjoy your time at the Villa Amica. It really is a wonderful place.

October 2010 - Our stay at Villa Amica during the first week of October, 2010 was memorable. The villa is stunning and the views are stupendous.

Gianluca and his brother Silvio, who own the villa, were friendly and accommodating. Gianluca's advice on restaurants was spot on; he also volunteered to find out the cost of taking a bus back to Rome (we opted for a car as it's much faster).

The house is sparkling clean and feels spacious; the ceilings are high; its location in Positano is perfect since it's not too close to the mayhem in the center of the village yet not far removed either. The villa is also nearby quite a few good restaurants, which have better food and more reasonable prices than the ones downtown.

I highly recommend this villa and congratulate Gianluca and his brother for being exceptional hosts.

October 2010 - This is a wonderful place to stay in Positano! I have been to Positano 3 times now and Villa Amica is at the top.

Gianluca, the owner, and his brother are more than helpful - they are outstanding and ambassadors of good will. They speak English very well and tended to our every need. The villa is stocked with every conceivable item. They helped us move all of our luggage and stuff IN and OUT of the villa.

There are several steps down to the unit from the road above, but do not come to Positano if you can not climb some steps! You can ride the Interno bus back up the hill to the nearby bus stop for 1.10 Euro (buy your tickets at the Tabbachi or Bar Internationale - can buy on the bus, but it is 1.5 Euro, I think).

If you want to see one of the most beautiful cities in the world, come do it from Villa Amica - and let Gianluca be your most gracious host. You will not be disappointed!

One extra note; there is a 1/2 bath off of the upper patio with a washer (top loading) that actually works. Italians use the sun to dry their clothes.

The pictures of the Villa can not capture all of the charm of this place.

We love your web site and all of your help prior to our trip. We have used your company before and believe it is one of the best. Keep up the good work!

September 2010 - Of all the accommodations we have experienced during our European travels, Villa Amica was the best. Beautifully appointed, well equipped, outstanding location, incredible view, immaculately clean and well maintained.

My wife was impressed that the kitchen included everything she needed, including espresso coffee maker and that the villa included air conditioning and good bedding. My favorite part was the fact that Villa Amica has two outside terraces - morning coffee overlooking the spectacular view was special.

The owner, Gianluca, was incredibly kind and helpful and his suggestions regarding family, non-tourist attractions, transportation advice, and restaurants made our stay even more pleasant. The fact that he spoke English was a bonus. We cannot say enough good things about him.

We recommend Villa Amica very highly to anyone and thank SummerInItaly and its outstanding staff for their courtesy and assistance. Just continue to provide your current level of excellent service. Thank you, Luca, and excellent staff for making our visit to Positano an experience we will always remember.

Travel tips

  • For food shopping, walk up the hill and around the curve just beyond the Mailboxes store to a grocer on the right side of the street. Lovely family operated store and the lady butcher speaks English.
  • Favorite restaurant is located beside the Bar Internazionale - outstanding home made pasta and good house wine.
  • Recommend the greengrocer just across the street from the bar, and bus tickets can be purchased at the Tobacco shop next door.
  • Wines are very good and inexpensive and can be purchased at any grocer. We found that even an inexpensive bottle was excellent when drank on the beautiful terraces of Villa Amica.
  • By all means, take the SITA bus (board at Bar Internazionale) to Amalfi, change to another SITA, and continue up the mountain to the incredible village of Ravello.
  • We also recommend the restaurant da Vincenzo on the waterfront down the hill from the villa.
  • By all means, wear comfortable shoes - Positano is a city of steps.

August 2010 - Villa Amica is a beautifully renovated villa that fit four of us comfortably. It was immaculate and looked like new. The views of the town of Positano are mesmerizing and the steps back up from the beach only served to help us work off all the pasta we ate.

Our two kids (9 and 12) loved the experience and they never once turned on a TV or played video games or logged onto the computer that was there for our use. Of course we told them in the first ten minutes we were there that there would not be any "screen time" as we call it while we were there.

When not sightseeing we played cards, ate, searched for our next gelato, read all kinds of books, checked out the mega yachts in the harbor and listened to the music at night from the cafes below.

We loved taking boats to Amalfi, Capri and Da Adolfo the restaurant down the coast! Try taking one of the free boats at the pier that take you to their restaurant. It is a fun experience!

Do not hesitate to rent this villa, Gianluca and his brother Silvio the owners will make sure you have everything you need and answer all your questions about the area.

You people are the best. We have told all our friends to only go through Summer In Italy to book a wonderful place in Italy.

Travel tips

  • Bar Internazionale was fun to get Gelato and a glass of wine at the end of the day and to observe the world go by. Not many tourists hang out there though but we enjoyed it.
  • Any of the beach restaurants have great food and views. We never found an unsatisfactory meal anywhere in town.
  • Explore away from the beach to find great little cafes and places to eat.
  • There are two little grocery stores just up the alley/street for anything you would need for food.
  • Go to Ravello for fantastic views of the coast and visit the wonderful sights. It is an easy bus ride to the top from Amalfi which you can get to from the pier at the beach on a ferry boat.
  • Capri was fun and we got lost wandering around away from the crowds at the top of the hill. It can get very busy there so make an effort to wander around and see beautiful scenery and gardens.

June 2010 - We had an amazing time at Villa Amica and could not have been more pleased. The steep stairs in the apartment were a surprise but we were well able. It really is a beautiful apartment and the owner and his brother were most helpful.

Travel tips

  • Not suitable for elderly or people with young children.
  • Use the bus service "servizio interno" rather than using the steps -- the service is very reliable.
  • I would not recommend the day trip to Capri as it was very busy and there were many long queues.
  • Pompeii is an absolute must do!
  • Regarding transport from the airport to Positano. We arrived late and were going to get a taxi which we decided was too expensive -- so we hired a car -- Positano has not parking and in retrospect we would have been better off paying the EUR 140 for a taxi. [Tip for prospective guests: rather than hiring a taxi upon arrival, make arrangements in advance for a driver to meet you at the airport, it is cheaper and the service is much more personal.]

May 2010 - OK, all the great reviews are true!

SummerInItaly is a reliable company and the owner of this particular property is a sweetheart who really cares about whether you love your stay here.

The apartment is perfection -- comfortable bed, gorgeous bathroom, more-than-functional kitchen (I love to cook), beautifully decorated, perfectly located (away from the throngs but easy to get to everything) and of course over-the-top views from the spectacular 2-level terrace (where you will find wild arugula as well as an orange tree). Positano is the most beautiful place I've ever been. We want to return and will definitely stay in this apt.

For those of you who like to cook: you will indeed find grocery stores open on Sat. Most close around 2-4 but then reopen til about 8. There's one nice little store just a few steps up the hill from the apt. There's an even better one about halfway up between the apt and the Chiesa Nuova (main) SITA bus stop. It's a little hard to find as they have a sliding glass door. If you look around, you'll also find butchers. And there are several grocery stores around the bus stop. There's also something calling itself a "delicatessen" down by the water; it's the biggest of the bunch, and probably open all day, but pricey. The produce here is outstanding, esp the cherry tomatoes (from Sicily) and funny-looking but delicious Sorrentine tomatoes.

I was really impressed when I asked if I should take a car from Naples and was told, no, it's too expensive and the public transportation is great. Another company was pushing the private car. I think that's what tipped the balance with me and made me decide to rent with you. (That, and the great reviews).

Travel tips

  • Our favorite meal: Restaurant La Tagliata in Montepertuso. Only for inventive eaters, as there is no menu.
  • Best ceramics: Non Solo Moda. Right down town. (We also loved the nearby rooftop bar for cappuccino and people-watching.)
  • Most overrated restaurant: Saraceno D'Oro. ho-hum.
  • We really liked Restaurant Le Tre Sorelle, right on the beach, for lunch.
  • Interesting women's clothing (different from what you find elsewhere in town): Giulio's. The owner has taken over from her father and makes everything herself.
  • Go to Pompeii!!

October 2009 - A great view of the city and water from the house. It is also a short walk to town, if you go down the steps, or you can meander down the street to town passing by restaurants and some shops.

There were two markets very close by to get supplies and food.

And, above all the owner, Gianluca, was very accommodating and helpful.

Travel tips

  • I cannot give Villa Amica a high enough recommendation.: I could go on and on about the restaurants, but truly there is not a bad, or for that matter a fair restaurant. The food was great, the wine even better, and the people were very friendly.
  • We did learn to take the city bus back to the house after walking back up the hill to the house twice. The bus was 1 euro and there is a stop right outside the house. There is however 69 steps that you have to take to get to the house from the street. It is not bad going down, but going back up to the street was a light workout.

Travel tips

  • Like other properties in Positano that have a view, Villa Amica requires steep climbs of hills and stairs. I believe we counted 60+ stairs from the "higher" entrance and 350+ stairs (plus hills) from the "lower" entrance. The stairs in the villa are also somewhat steeper than usual, but not a problem if you can do the slopes and stairs outside the villa in the town of Positano.

October 2008 - Our stay at Villa Amica was absolutely delightful!

I loved the tile floors and the beautiful bathroom (it was great to have 2 bathrooms). We were two couples travelling together, so it was perfect to be able to have a large bed in each bedroom (it could be separated as 2 twins if you prefer). The kitchen had everything you might need, and a lovely dining area with the view.

The view of the hillside village and of the sea was incredible.

We ate breakfast out on the terrace, sipped limoncello there in the afternoon, and at night we watched the lights come on after dark, and listened as the music drifted up to us. We felt like we were in a movie set.

The village is so picturesque and charming, and you see this view out every window of the villa. We spent 3 and 1/2 weeks weeks in Italy and had many wonderful experiences, but our week at Villa Amica was the highlight of our trip!

Summer In Italy was great! We would definitely recommend it to our friends and family.

Travel tips

  • Travel by boat to Capri for the day, or to Amalfi (where prices are reasonable).
  • From Amalfi, take the bus to Ravello - a lovely, sleepy village. Don't miss the awesome ceramics there.
  • If you take the bus to Praiano, walk all the way down to the beach and have a wonderful seafood lunch at Restaurant Alfonso a Mare.
  • In Positano our favorite restaurant was also at the beach, called La Cambusa. Great rigatoni with grilled eggplant and tomatoes.

October 2008 - We had a wonderful stay in Positano. The house is beautiful and has an amazing view of the town center and the water.

Gianluca [the owner] was very gracious and always available to answer questions and even help us find a battery charger for our camera.

We also had amazing weather even though it was mid October.

The steps were not a problem at all.

It was simply perfect.

September 2008 - We thought it was a great place to stay with a stunning view and all of the conveniences that we could possibly need.

It was clean and well kept.

We had a wonderful stay and didn't really want to leave.

Gianluca [the owner] met us at the appointed time, did a great job of orienting us and was attentive throughout the week. We didn't really need anything from him, but if we had, I'm sure that he would have been there to take care of it.

We found Summer in Italy with an Internet search and decided to take a chance. Booking with someone over the Internet is a little bit scary, but we were pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Everything worked as planned and the villa was as advertised. I would have no problem recommending Summer in Italy. In fact, I already have.

Travel tips

  • There is no point in bringing a car to Positano. We did and wound up paying 160 Euros in parking fees for a week, not to mention the cost of the rental. The public transportation is great and we weren't bothered by the walk up and down the stairs. Be forewarned though, we counted 270 steps to the beach. There is bus transportation if you don't feel like walking.

September 2008 - Villa Amica was absolutely perfect, stunning views with very modern facilities.

The owner Gianluca was very nice, he couldn't have been more helpful with regards to public transport and he even helped us with our bags the day we were leaving.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Villa Amica and in Positano.

The only downfall is all the steps.

Staff at Summer In Italy were very helpful and efficient throughout the process of booking the villa. I couldn't have asked for better service.

August 2008 - Having just returned from traveling nearly 3 months in Italy, Greek Islands, Switzerland and France, Villa Amica was the standout of all our accommodation.

Having recently retired from a career in marketing I was a little wary when I read Villa Amica's 100% customer rating - so set my expectations a little lower. Villa Amica exceeded our expectations and we were not surprised for the rest of the vacation that no other accommodation could meet this standard.

The location, fittings, cleanliness and view were outstanding and a credit to Gianluca, the owner of the Villa. Gianluca was there to meet us and help us with our luggage when we arrived, dropped in regularly to make sure everything was OK and was always available on SMS if we needed some local advice on how to get somewhere or where to eat. We left early (6.30 am) on Saturday for Tuscany and he insisted on being there to drive the ladies with our luggage to the bus stop. Needless to say we loved Gianluca.

I booked all our accommodation, flights, cruises etc on the web and saved a fortune for our 3 month holiday. Summer in Italy's website and staff where the best by far - so keep up the good work.

Travel tips

  • I followed the tips of past customers and we made Bar Internazionale our favoured watering hole after our days of wandering the Amalfi - it's local, inexpensive, they make their own gelati and cakes and the beer is cold. It's also where the locals hangout.
  • There are plenty of great and inexpensive eating places within walking distance - just ask the locals. I turned 56 on my holiday and was concerned that my artificial knee would not manage the 287 steps from the beach road to the Villa. It took a couple of days to get our wind but we never once used the orange local transit bus - a great option however if you need it.
  • Try the restaurant Da Adolfo - you travel by free boat (harbour wharf - the boat with the red dolphin) to a secluded beach for a swim and then the most fabulous food. It's casual which we Aussies like and Sergio and staff will really look after to you.
  • Also try Ristorante Scirocco 150 m up from the Bar Internazionale, the best value quality meals we had in Positano. Our waiter spoke about as much English as I speak Italian (a little) and we had great fun working through the menu and the service was brilliant.

August 2008 - We loved staying in Villa Amica. The view was spectacular and the villa itself pristine and full of character.

Gianluca [the owner] was exceptionally helpful and generous and made our stay one of the best holidays we've ever had.

We would thoroughly recommend this villa.

Travel tips

  • Trips to Vesuvius and Pompeii definitely worth it. We took a private taxi for the day. More than 2 hours is needed for Pompeii!
  • Naples is fascinating but huge. The Archaeological museum closes some rooms arbitrarily so check when you first arrive. Beautiful museum however. We took public transport to Naples and it did take a while but was very reliable.
  • Amalfi made a lovely half day boat trip.
  • Fornillo beach cheaper than Spiaggia Grande beach. Good cafe/restaurant there.

July 2008 - Che meraviglia! Positano is pure magic and Villa Amica is a real gem! The location is priceless, the view from the villa beyond belief. The beauty that unfolds before you as you gaze from the terrace is breathtaking. You have the best seat in the house to enjoy Positano be it day or night.

The villa itself is perfect and lacks for nothing.

Gianluca [the owner] is the best! He went out of his way to help us and make our stay unforgettable. And if you don't speak Italian, don't worry, his English is very good. Grazie mille, Gianluca, per tutto! Spero che ci vediamo presto! We shall return!

Summer In Italy handle everything with professionalism for which we thank you and we are already recommending you to friends and family.

Travel tips

  • Walk down to the beach, either Spiaggia Grande or Fornillo, and use the local bus, Interno Positano, on the way back.
  • We liked Fornillo beach better and we used the path by the tower to get to Spiaggia Grande and the bus stop on the way back.
  • There are two stores close by and an excellent butcher just around the corner.
  • The restaurants along Via Pasitea close to the villa are all good.
  • We liked Il Fornillo, Caffe Positano, Da Vincenzo.
  • Down in Positano, Al Palazzo (Palazzo Murat) is excellent and so is Le Terrazze (more expensive) as well as Buca di Bacco.
  • The only total disappointment was La Cambusa, the food was average and way overpriced, the atmosphere up on the terrace felt like a cafeteria with bright lights, the waiter was pushy. You can skip this one as there are much better places in Positano to eat.

July 2008 - We really liked it.

In general, probably the only negative thing about it was that you had to go up or down the stairs in the villa a lot if you are getting reading at night or in the morning.

All the rooms were decorated nicely and well equipped and we could not have asked for a better view.

I thought the way that Summer In Italy conducted this was great, it was all pretty easy and simple.

Travel tips

  • Definitely don't bring a car and know that you'll be walking a lot down the stairs. You can always take the bus for really cheap too, which is nice.

June 2008 - Villa Amica provided us with an exceptional view of the bay, the beach and Positano.

Mr. Gianluca speaks very good English, he is a very charming host and makes sure that his guests have everything they need. He helps with the luggage getting to Villa Amica. He is accessible via phone or text messages on the phone should we need assistance.

The villa was extremely clean, well furnished and the terrace quickly became our favorite spot.

We were greeted with a beautiful fruit basket and bottled water.

I would strongly recommend this Villa which, I believe, is located in one of the best locations in Positano.

Very professional organization, excellent with follow-ups. Thank you for your help.

Travel tips

  • There is a convenient convenient store located near the villa on the main road.
  • Don't get discouraged by all the steps, it is not that bad. Getting back to the villa walking via the main road is easier and has numerous view points.
  • Travel to Amalfi and Sorrento via boats, the roads are challenging.
  • We also recommend a boat trip to Capri with Gennaro e Salvatore.
  • We would also recommend a tour of Pompeii.

June 2008 - My family and I had a fantastic holiday at Villa Amica.

The location was perfect and quite an experience in comparison to anything we've rented before.

The owner was very welcoming and did everything to ensure we had a good stay at Villa Amica.

There is a hustle and bustle about Positano without it being overcrowded with tourists. Plenty of things to do and see and lots of lovely restaurants to eat. We'd strongly recommend it.

Travel tips

  • Pompeii is definitely worth a visit but be prepared to spend the day and take necessary items for hot weather. An umbrella is great to have to get some shelter from the baking sunshine whilst walking around.
  • I'd also advise a trip to Capri and the blue Grotto, definitely worth seeing.

Travel tips

  • The bus is cheaper for getting to Amalfi, Ravello etc rather than using the ferry. Get a 24 hr ticket, it is much more worthwhile than getting single trip tickets. The 24 hour ticket also entitles you to ride the open top bus with audio guide to Ravello!

April 2008 - Villa Amica was fantastic! The only drawback was the steps to the property which was a bit of a chore whilst carrying your luggage. The internal stairs were very steep but good exercise. The property was in fantastic condition and very well maintained with just about everything you needed.

The owner was very helpful and even came at 6.30 am on departure day to help with the bags to the bus stop.

We would book it again without hesitation and highly recommend it as long as you don't mind the steps.

Summer in Italy was also perfect, extremely professional, very well organised with great information supplied and could not be faulted. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Travel tips

  • Don't bring a car as there is really nowhere to park it close by.
  • A 5 litre flagon of Red Vino at the green grocers near the bus stop at under 4.00 Euro is a bargain.(There was 4 of us!)
  • We had fresh orange juice from the oranges on the tree in the terrace area everyday. (Seasonal)

March 2008 - Villa Amica is a lovely family owned villa with all the charm you'd expect from the Amalfi Coast.

The Villa is full of Italian tiles from the floors in the bedrooms to the bathroom and kitchen.

We were greeted by the owner who subsequently texted every second day to check we had everything we needed. There was also a laptop with broadband set up, not essential for everybody but as my parents from New Zealand were continuing on through Italy they were able to organise their subsequent flights and accommodation.

There was also an ipod, stereo and television, washing machine, dish washer and heating/air conditioner.

Outside on the sun drenched porch was an orange tree full of fruit which my father delighted in hand squeezing for breakfast every morning.

The location was perfect, set mid way down the hill allowing stunning views out over Positano and a great hill climb back from the beach to work off work off lunch!

I would recommend Villa Amica to anyone who wants a great Italian experience!!!

Travel tips

September 2007 - We had such a lovely stay, we could not have asked for more from a location.

We would definitely stay at villa Amica again, the owner/manager was incredibly helpful and friendly, and the villa was finished to a very high standard.

Thank you for the experience.

Travel tips

  • Remember a good pair of flat shoes, hilly but well worth it, and even if you do not fancy the hike there is a very good regular bus service, and lots of taxis.
  • There is a great little general shop just round the corner from the villa, and several others within short walking distance.
  • There are lots of lovely restaurants close by, the food places in the town centre are good but they are more expensive than the ones surrounding the villa.
  • If you are going sight seeing be warned the buses are great but do get very busy, if you can go by ferry Positano has very good links.
  • Positano is a fabulous location for seeing the Amalfi coastline.

July 2007 - My family and I truly fell in love with Villa Amica.

We were amazed by the view from the terrace. The images that can be seen on the web are by no means close to the reality. From Villa Amica, we had a breathtaking view over Positano and the Mediterranean.

I felt that our booking was handled with professionalism and always felt confident that the promises would be kept. Keep on with your good work. I would not hesitate to book another vacation with you.

Travel tips

  • Be prepared to walk and climb hills and stairways. From Villa Amica to the sea, there are 584 steps. Going up and down will help you burn the wonderful pastas you have been eating all day in Italy [bus service is available for those who decide to give up pasta :-)].
  • Traveling from Positano to the rest of the Amalfi Coast is easy.

We would recommend this place and this company to anyone who asks. Summer In Italy is very easy to deal with and absolutely everything they said about the villa was true and honest.

Travel tips

  • Bring your own beach towels.

April 2007 - We had an amazing stay, it was a steep walk, more than 70 steps to be honest, but I still never took the bus and I would stay there again because I felt it was right in the middle, we went down the hill for the beach and up the hill for dinner and the brilliant International Bar which had great staff.

The garden would have got top marks too but I would have liked some grass to lie on... but it was great overall, can't wait till next Easter!

And this was the best web site I have ever used, I told every tourist out there about it, such fast responses to my emails and great help through every step!

The best holiday in a long time!

Travel tips

  • The International Bar was my favourite place, so glad we stayed in Positano, took trips to Sorrento and Amalfi which were good to see.
  • A hire car would have been great to get to and from the airport, but no need for it at all when you are there as boats and buses go everywhere, so maybe put that money into a taxi if you're flying from Naples!
