The terrace was huge and had a great view!

October 2019 - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Lucilla! The terrace was huge and had a great view!

We did some laundry in the washing machine which was nice as we were in our second week in Italy. The bed is rather hard, but that is true for most places we stayed. There are very steep steps (like all of Positano). You will be in great shape after your stay for sure!

I would definitely stay there again!!

We were met on arrival to locate the apartment and be shown around. 😊

We highly recommend Summer In Italy! Luca is super helpful while you are there and before you get there. He also gave us contact info for a driver (who was super nice and spoke English).

Travel tips

  • Casa Lucila is close to shops, restaurants and a local grocery store. It is at the top of Positano.
  • If you walk out the door down all the steps everything you need is to the left and very close by.
  • The bus stops close by too!

Relaxing sunsets in Positano

August 2019 - The place was very large and the veranda was massive! We enjoyed relaxing on the veranda and watching the sun set. The air conditioning worked very well too!

Travel tips

  • It was very convenient to the bus stop, as the SITA bus and local Positano bus stopped near the apartment.
  • There is a grocery store and a great restaurant nearby.

Nice place, found free parking

July 2019 - Nice place. The host was great and very helpful. It’s a bit of a tough walk to get to the beach because of the steps but unless you’re on the water all of Positano is like that.

Very nice balcony with beautiful view. The space in the inside was tight but we did have the pull out couch open the whole time. It is close to free parking on the side of the mountain and because of that we saved hundreds of euros.

Above all, we enjoyed the view and the terrace

July 2019 - We traveled from Chicago, USA. It was 3 of us (parents and 15 year old daughter).

Above all, we enjoyed the view and the terrace. Incredible place to have coffee, a couple drinks, play games, or just look at the sea, town, and coast. Very large and comfortable space.

The location was also special. Really a local and unique feel to the area. Felt really part of the town. Fun to walk to the local restaurants and even down to the main town and beaches.

Overall, it was a fun and unique experience and the rental was clean and comfortable. Would recommend to others.

Travel tips

  • We loved driving the coast (although really crowded) towards Amalfi. Incredible views and neat places to stop.
  • We highly recommend a day trip to Pompeii, which is probably the most impressive place I have seen in all of Italy.
  • In Positano, you should walk everywhere from the rental (although you have to be in condition to walk challenging routes and stairs): the beaches, restaurants, shopping, cafes. Get out and explore!

I immediately fell in love with Casa Lucilla

May 2019 - I literally got home from my stay at Casa Lucilla a few hours ago!

I immediately fell in love with Casa Lucilla. The location was excellent. As much as there are many steps to get to Spiaggia Grande from the villa, this did not deter me from going every day. It made having all the pasta, wine and gelato guilt-free, knowing the steps would take care of any over indulgence on my part!

Being here was a dream come true to celebrate, 6 months early, my 50th birthday. It was a treat spending time on the terrace, sipping wine and looking out to a jaw dropping view of the coast and seeing Praiano from there was spectacular. I did a lot of cooking in the villa. The bed was very comfy! When I had a sore back after staying at a BandB near the airport in Rome on the way home, I wished I was still in Casa Lucilla!

I truly appreciated the warm welcome of Nunzia, the caretaker of the villa. She was very kind and helpful throughout the course of my stay, often reaching out to me, inquiring if there was anything I needed. An excellent stay!!

I am so very thankful to you all. From the moment I booked and then the wonderful newsletters I would get as the months went by, it seemed, slowly, the time came. I couldn't believe it and daily upon waking up in Casa Lucilla I would laugh out loud. Thank you so much for your help Summer In Italy!

Travel tips

  • Just down the steps from the villa if you turn left you'll stumble upon the local supermarket. On the same side, walk on past the hotel and you'll find the local butchers. Yummy sausage I bought from the guys there. Around that same road you'll stumble into another supermarket as well as the famous Bar Internazionale. Great stop for treats, drinks, snacks and sandwiches.
  • There's a restaurant close by too on the other side of the road. I could clearly hear and see the diners nightly enjoying their dinner from the terrace. I didn't eat here as planned.
  • I had the most tasty pasta and scampi lunch at Chez Black on Spiaggia Grande.
  • Bought gelato from Buca di Bacco.
  • If you take the steps up behind the boat trip selling stalls on the beach, you'll make your way to Fornillo Beach, the smaller and not so crowded beach in Positano. I ate breakfast and lunch here at Pupetto Cafe (reasonably priced) a few times and walked this beach a bit more than the main one.

Travel tips

  • Trip to Capri by boat was the highlight of our trip.
  • Great shopping. Positano had wonderful shops. If you need linen, this is the place to shop.

June 2018 - The apartment was ok, the terrace has a wonderful view of the sea. The big bedroom and the main bathroom were adequate and clean.

The property manager was very nice and helpful.

Summer In Italy provided great service from booking to responding to questions and issues. I’m very pleased with your service. Booking was easy, and you were very friendly and ready to help. It was nice to have your help in communicating with the owner with issues as we don’t speak Italian. I would use your service again. Grazie!

Travel tips

  • There’s a bus stop very close to the apartment, although we didn’t use the bus.

May 2018 - Casa Lucilla had incredible views of Positano and the sea, with beautiful French doors out to the huge terrace from the living room and master bedroom. We enjoyed our stay here very much. Lots of stairs up to the flat, but that is typical in Positano.

The property manager helped arrange car transfer out to Sorrento when we left. Thank you for a nice place to stay.

We loved it and plan to come back

September 2017 - We loved it and plan to come back. The apartment was just right for us. It was very clean, bright and well kept. The little kitchen was so well outfitted. The bedroom was very comfortable. The remote control air conditioning was wonderful and appreciated. The terrace is the highlight. Simply spectacular, private, with incredible views. We practically lived on it.

We found Summer In Italy to be a great service. Very responsive and attentive. We would use you again.

Travel tips

  • We discovered wonderful places behind and around the house.
  • Be sure to do dinner at La Tagliata (they have free shuttle to take you to the restaurant). Food was great. A great deal.
  • Just a 5 minute walk behind/above the house is a great lunch spot: Ristorante Da Constantino. Great views and service.
  • Many small grocery stores offer free delivery of groceries. Take them up on it!

Travel tips

  • There is a wonderful restaurant on the road just below Casa Lucilla. Take a left off the front door stairs, a next left down approx 80 stairs and the restaurant is right across the street. You can actually see it from the terrace.
  • If taking the bus back from downtown and you would rather not have to walk up a lot of steps, catch the one marked Nocelle as this one will drop you at the top of the street and it's a just approx 20 steps down to Casa Lucilla.

The view was incredible

July 2016 - I absolutely loved my 2 weeks at Casa Lucilla! I was overwhelmed at first carrying my luggage up all steps but we quickly found alternative steps that were much easier. The view was incredible. The apartment is a bit of a hike to the main town/beach but we liked this.

After a day of exploring the Amalfi Coast or enjoying the local beach, once we got home we generally relaxed on the amazing balcony enjoying the view and picked up tomatoes/cheese/meats/wine from the local market which was very easy. The kitchen was well equipped.

Summer In Italy was also helpful in providing information to find drivers as well. All great!

Travel tips

  • There were restaurants nearby.
  • The bus was an easy alternative if you didn't want to tackle the stairs.
  • The apartment does not have Wi-Fi but, in hindsight, that better encouraged us to relax. Also, free Wi-Fi was available at the bus stop (near Bar Internazionale) via the church, so not a problem.
  • There are maps that are good that reflect the stairs options.
  • The market next to Bar Internazionale was perfect, and Bar Internazionale also helped book tickets on a bus to Pompeii.

June 2015 - Casa Lucilla was great. The place is such great value, paid more for places in Australia that don't have this character, views and, other than the climbing stairs (to be expected), was a wonderful place to stay.

We laughed after spending a cooler than expected evening under the sheets only to discover on phoning that there were heaps of blankets, more pillows and doonas under the main bed! One place we didn't even consider. All the fun of traveling.

Our stay was just to relax, no jumping on ferries or touring around the coast. We all found the place extremely relaxing and it was funny watching from the balcony the local traffic. We ate out most nights but the facilities are great if you want to eat in with local supermarket and fruit/veg. within close walking other than the stairs. We found three levels of walking up and down to suit. The casual up/down, the straight up/down or the by-the-church which wasn't as many steps up/down. Take your choice. We easily walked to town centre all downhill! And local bus easy to navigate.

Would love to return one day. I would book the same place again!

Easy to book and easy website to use. Thank you for your help and assistance.

Travel tips

  • Book Casa Lucilla, great location and very good value for money.
  • Binoculars to watch the fun with traffic in the town on the hill and to watch the yacht's sailing along the coast.
  • Enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
  • Find the casual walk down as the straight up/down stairs is great when you're young.

July 2014 - Thoroughly enjoyed our weeks holiday at Casa Lucilla.

Loved the fact you could walk straight onto terrace from living room and bedrooms and once on the terrace, wow, what a view. Very traditional rooms with plenty of storage and everything you need.

We hope to stay in the lovely Casa Lucilla again.

First saw Positano on programme in Britain called This Morning. Famous chef Phil Vickery was cooking a Risotto for the Mayor of Positano. It looked such a beautiful place I went online to have a look and Summer In Italy came up. I have to say you are the best travel company I have ever booked with and will definitely book with you again.

You are such a lovely team of people, very professional and accommodating and nothing too much trouble. I have no advice other than to say keep doing what you are doing, you all do a great job.

Travel tips

  • If you walk down the first set of steps to the main road and turn left, a short walk takes you to a small grocery store which provides everything you will need for your stay.
  • Next to this is the Bar Internazionale where you can get lovely fresh cakes, pizza slices etc. along with soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
  • Next to this is also a very good take away/sit in pizza place.
  • Also there is a Trattoria called C'era una volta which you will find on the same road heading back to Casa Lucilla.
  • Further down the hill we ate at Il Capitano which was very nice with great views and our lovely daughter treated us to a beautiful meal at Hotel Covo dei Saraceni which lies at the very bottom of Positano looking out to sea.
  • We had a great trip to Sorrento where we caught a train to Pompeii to see the ruins. Remarkable.
  • You can catch the bus to Sorrento from the Sita bus stop which is opposite Bar Internazionale.
  • Also enjoyed couple days swimming at sea from Motor Boat we hired at beach in Positano.

Fantastic

May 2014 - Casa Lucilla was a lovely place to stay on the Amalfi Coast.

The place itself is very well kept and the view from the terrace was spectacular. It is on the outskirts of Positano or at least it seemed like it so if you’re looking for something right in the middle of the city center, this place isn't for you. For us, it worked.

Definitely an amazing trip and one that I would do over again!

The son of the owner was helpful and extremely handsome. :) Thank you!

The Summer In Italy staff that I met via email was TERRIFIC! They responded quickly and addressed every question I had.

Travel tips

September 2013 - This is a simply wonderful property, furnished like a local home rather than a bland rental property. Casa Lucilla has everything you need - an enormous terrace, a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, comfy beds, a good shower and a good TV.

Some reviews complained about a noise from pipes, but my wife and I never heard this.

In all a wonderful place to stay - very highly recommended.

Thank you Summer In Italy. In the current age of anonymous corporations and terrible customer service, your staff were very pleasant and helpful and made the whole experience straightforward. Special thanks to Melanie.

Travel tips

  • When you arrive at the property, Casa Lucilla seems a long way from the sea front and town centre. However, in reality it isn't too far - the interno bus only takes a few mins and comes regularly - the bus stop is only a short walk from the property. If you prefer a walk, it will take 30-45 mins at a leisurely pace. However, it is not necessary to always visit the seafront - there are all the conveniences you need on the same street of the property: two restaurants, convenience store, greengrocer, tobacconist, butchers, café.
  • You do need to be physically fit/capable to visit Positano - this is not a location for disabled or elderly visitors. If you are physically active and love culture, art, good food and wine then you would be insane not to visit Positano.
  • We spent two unforgettable weeks eating in the amazing restaurants, relaxing on Casa Lucilla's enormous terrace, dancing in the nightclub and generally having a fantastic time. We also hired a small boat and sailed along the Amalfi Coast as far as Minori - highly highly recommended, utterly amazing.

It is far away enough from the town center to be free of the tourist buzz and noise, but close enough to town to be able to walk down or catch the local Interno bus from the corner at Chiesa Nuova very close to the casa.

Can improve

June 2013 - We did enjoy our stay but I think it was a little more basic than expected.

Huge deck a big plus.

One bathroom we were told not to use the shower and as it had things stored in there and no toilet seat that was not at all usable The drains were very slow to drain so need work to prevent the smell. [Please note: Casa Lucilla is advertised as having only one bathroom. The second bathroom is not functional and is used by the owners as storage room. We have recommended the owners lock this door and put a "private" sign on it, in order to avoid unnecessary disappointment by guests who would be confused by finding two bathrooms and not being able to use one. If you do book this villa please be warned!]

The main bedroom was extremely noisy at night due to some kind of noise that I think comes from pipes or something that happens every 15 minutes or so. During the day very quiet.

I think some more basics should be provided to the unit, eg. toilet paper and tea towel for kitchen, and cleaning products and cloths etc. especially.

Travel tips

  • To walk from the town beach to Casa there are 1000 steps up. By bus or taxi there are still 110 steps unless you are dropped to the road above.
  • Chiesa Nuova is a lovely little area and the local Bar Internazionale is wonderful for coffee and drinks and great for fresh pastries on Sundays. This is not however in the main centre of things so you need to get there by bus, taxi or walk.
  • Restaurant Donna Rosa is wonderful and I did a cooking school there too which was fabulous.

June 2012 - We had a great time staying at Casa Lucilla. It is in a quiet area, with outstanding views and very nice location if you don't mind walking around and up and down stairs. We especially enjoyed the terrace with view of the sea, and being close to a very good trattoria (C'era una Volta, very close).

We had a great time and have absolutely no complaints. The communications were very well done.

Travel tips

April 2009 - We certainly enjoyed our stay at Casa Lucilla and loved being in Positano.

We didn't mind the steps to the beach, we made the trip every day and twice one day. No need for a treadmill or stairmaster. Certainly helped to work off the gelato, wine, cheese and the terrific desserts from La Zagara.

Everything went smoothly. You offer a wide selection of rentals so everyone should find something. We were very happy.

November 2008 - We enjoyed Casa Lucilla. It was spacious enough and it was good to have a decent sized terrace. There were a few things which could improve it. I think there should be a small table at least on one side of the bed in the main bedroom. I also think there should be a bedside light. The same applies to the smaller bedroom - there should be a small bedside table and a bedside light.

We were not able to use the shower in the smaller bathroom and the lavatory seat was broken. I think that both of these should have been sorted for guests.

In addition, there was an ironing board but no iron.

On the whole, Casa Lucilla is pleasant to stay in. However, as it is quite expensive (we know that accommodation in Positano is expensive), the points made above should be addressed.

Found you by chance when checking out self-catering accommodation in Positano, and reviews from your previous guests are encouraging, though maybe you don't print the negative ones?!

Thank you for asking the question!

We sure do publish the feedback we receive for future guests to benefit. It should not be a surprise that 99% of the guests are happy with their accommodations, though. The villas and apartments we represent are carefully selected and personally inspected by our staff, and we only have listings for good-quality and good-value places. As a consequence, an extremely high degree of satisfaction among guests who book with SummerInItaly.com is to be expected!

Moreover, past-guest feedback is forwarded to the owners for them to take action, warnings are raised, and property where maintenance is not duly performed are removed from the listings, at our only discretion.

It is also true that you don't read many reviews mentioning minor problems as they are dealt with and resolved on the spot. If you don't feel like dealing with the owner directly to request an iron or to report that the toilet seat is broken (things that happen) we encourage you to call our English-speaking staff at the local 24/7 number we provide (the one that is referred as the "help center" number on your booking voucher). We'll take care of notifying the owner and following up in the background, while you enjoy your vacation.

Regarding Casa Lucilla, more specifically, please note how the description on our web site explicitly mentions that the second bathroom is without shower. Indeed, in the summary we present the house has having only one bathroom, since the shower in the second bathroom is non-functional. Setting the correct level of expectations also ensures that our guests are happy with their accommodations, because they get what expect and no less!

Travel tips

  • A favourite restaurant is Saraceno D'Oro.
  • Eating in restaurants by the main beach is more expensive than at those higher up in the town.
  • When choosing a time to visit Positano, it is worth remembering that many of the boat services to other small towns or islands is limited/non-existent after the end of October.
  • Amalfi and Ravello are worth a visit, as is the island of Ischia. Also Pompeii.
  • For those who suffer from travel sickness, it is a good idea to have some medication to take if driving along the Amalfitana coast. Overall, Positano is a delightful place to be based because of its dramatic position on two sides of a gorge.

October 2008 - Loved the views from the terrace, the apartment was very clean and the manager very friendly.

Quiet location and would recommend.

Would use your service again, lots of very useful information provided, and excellent directions to reach the apartment.

Travel tips

  • Good location, handy shops nearby for picking up groceries, fruit, veg, etc.
  • Bus just a short distance to both main area of Positano and further afield.
  • Lots of steps to climb but this is Positano!

July 2008 - The magnificent view down over the bay is the most impressive feature. The balcony is large and faces south, the accommodation is functional and fine.

We liked the local community, at the top of Positano, well served by the small buses which take the pain of the hill away.

A good base for travelling along the Amalfi coast - the SITA buses running between Amalfi and Sorrento stop nearby.

A pleasure to deal with you - many thanks

Travel tips

  • Be prepared for the steps up from the main road!
  • The local shop/supermarket will deliver provisions on request.
  • Try the Bar Internazionale and the excellent fishmonger.

June 2008 - Wonderful: modern, well kept, clean and very well equipped & furnished.

Thanks for a great holiday!

Your service has been excellent and I will definitely use you again for future holidays.

Travel tips

  • All provisions can be purchased from the local store & grocer near "Bar Internazionale" which is a 2 minute walk away and also a well know meeting point and bus stop for both the local bus as well as the tour SITA buses.

June 2007 - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It was perfect for a family of four.

Summer in Italy was easy to work with.

Travel tips

  • We took day trips to Capri, Amalfi, Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius using the local transportation (Ferries, SITA bus and the Circumvesuviana train).
  • The local bus to Montepertuso is the best way to get to the Trail of the Gods. Take it to the very last stop in Nocelle and follow the signs to the trail. Be sure to bring water and good walking shoes. The bus returns every hour.

Travel tips

  • Good location if you have a car to park as you can do that on the main road at no charge. Very expensive to park in town.
  • Fantastic restaurant called MAX, you gotta go.
  • Do not bother visiting the grottoes unless you hire a speed boat for a small group on Capri.
  • Best trip Pompeii.

August 2006 - My three friends and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at Casa Lucilla.

We felt at home, relaxed by the views and were comfortable with the living arrangements and amenities. There was enough room for the 4 of us!

Great customer service! Well done and thank you. If I ever visit Italy again I will be sure to use Summer In Italy.

July 2006 - We stayed here on our honeymoon and it was better than we could have ever expected!

We loved the location and the villa was beautiful. We also liked that it was away from the crowd and seemed more like we were immersed in the local culture.

There are numerous stores to purchase food, produce and local wines in walking distance. The Bar Internazionale is a great place any time of day to sit and watch the local activities.

We would recommend this villa to anyone visiting Positano.

Everything was great! I have already passed all the "Summer in Italy" info on to a friend who is going next fall and would highly recommend your company!!

Travel tips

  • It was tough carrying our luggage up all the stairs on the first day. We used Positano Porter to bring them down to the dock on the day we left. Consider calling them to carry your luggage up, as well.

July 2006 - Enjoy! Very very much. Wonderful week my wife and I had.

Luisa [the owner] was most helpful and explained how things worked very well.

Loved the town, the ocean the beach, the restaurants, the shops, loved it all.

Casa Lucilla was clean and every thing worked. Power tripped a couple of times but was an easy fix.

Bed was great and the terrace was a perfect spot to start the day with a coffee and to end in the evening with a night cap.

I was first attracted to your web site. I found it easy to use and you had excellent photos of your properties. The booking went very smooth and you kept use informed every step of the way. I will certainly recommend you to friends or family and I look forward to our next trip to Italy and letting Summer in Italy help in making it a Holiday to remember.

June 2006 - We loved it -- having stayed right in town at Casa Stella in 2005 we really enjoyed the peace and quiet at Casa Lucilla in the busier month of June. It was a delight to wake up in the morning and go our onto the very large terrace for breakfast.

The apartment is ideally situated for the the descent into town or for the bus stop to explore the coast.

The terrace would have been excellent if there had been some plants and possibly more shade (we had a very hot week).

You were great -- that's twice now! We'll be in touch next year to book our third stay!

Travel tips

  • Once you have visited Pompeii go to Paestum. Fabulous -- and empty when we went in June. You can go by boat to Salerno and then take the bus to Paestum. We went one way by bus all the way and then returned by boat -- the best of both worlds.

June 2006 - We were at casa lucilla for 3 weeks and loved it!

The pictures are very accurate. It is a distance from the town center, and many many steps to get anywhere you are wanting to go, but that is just part of the beauty of staying in Positano.

The porch is amazing, and the neighbors are very friendly. Casa Lucilla also quite possibly has the nicest shower in all of Italy.

Overall, the ideal place to stay, just make sure you get in shape before going!

And if you are not in shape when you go, you will be when you are back! Ah ah :-)
