Vecchiano
Located north of Pisa, Vecchiano sits on the banks of the Serchio River near the Mediterranean Sea. It is surrounded by gently rolling green hills sliced with streams. This area was the ancient home of the Etruscans before being taken over by the Romans. It is full of natural, unspoiled landscapes.
The Marina di Vecchiano is the seaside resort connected to the older town which has four glorious kilometers of golden sand beaches, much of it left in a natural state, backed by thick vegetation. The water here is clear and shallow.
In the old historic center of Vecchiano, the town is still circled by its protective walls that once helped keep invaders out. Ruins of an Etruscan fortress can be seen, too. The Gaetani Castle rests in the hills outside the town, rimmed by woods. Vecchiano sits at the edge of the Migliarino Nature Park, with its wonderful flora and fauna and nature trails.
Vecchiano is near Pisa, Viareggio and Lucca. The spa town of San Giuliano Terme and the quaint Torre del Lago Puccini, home of the famous opera composer, are close by, as well. There are shops, supermarkets and restaurants in Vecchiano.
