In Montepulciano, a historic winery has its cellar in the family palazzo, and you can visit for a tour and tasting. The Contucci family has been making wine here since 1700, and is among the "founding fathers" of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano according to documents from the 1770s. That means they seriously know how to make wine! With 170 hectares (420 acres) they are heavy-hitter.

Sample the Vino Nobile in its several vintages, the Rosso di Montepulciano, the local Prugnolo grape (the wine called Sansovino), and its single white, along with Tuscan Vin Santo. The winery in the palazzo cellar is lovely with brick archways and stone work bearing the massive casks. Tasting Tuscan wine in its heart - aaah, an experience to enjoy!
