A magical spot on Lake Como is the enchanting Castello of Vezio. The square stone fortress sits on a rocky spur above the lake, with a tall square tower in the middle. It is a lovely place, with wildflowers growing up among the walls, and breathtaking panoramas. All around is the rugged and yet refined landscape of mountains and hills surrounding the placid water of Lago di Como.

The Romanesque castle was built sometime in the fifth century. You enter by crossing a drawbridge. The stone battlements make it look imposing and yet it has an overall air of beauty. It was part of a defensive system along this borderlands. There are underground tunnels, said to have been utilized during WWII.

There are gardens to wander and you can climb to the top of the tower to take in the amazing view. There is also an exhibit on local history in the tower and occasional art installations in the courtyard. There are also falconry shows.
