Travel tips and advice for Casa ViolettaFiona Joffe, Mount Glorious, Australia August 3, 2009 - The deli in the centre of Positano is great for lunch and is inexpensive. Very helpful owner. If you buy alot and can't carry it all, they will deliver it your door which is incredibly helpful considering all the steps and the walk takes a good 10 minutes.
Kine Søyland, Oslo, Norway July 5, 2008 - No need to go to the beach in the centre. Use Arienzo beach instead. Turn left outside the apartment and walk for 5-10 minutes. Then you will see the stairs and and a sign saying beach/spiaggia. Follow the sign and let the steps lead you to a great little beach that has a public part which is free, and a part which offers sunbeds, umbrellas and shower/toilette facilities for a reasonable fee, and a bar/restaurant that serves excellent lunch meals.
Kenneth LaGreca, Evergreen, CO, United States September 22, 2007 - We found a little "pebble beach" up the road from Casa Violetta that was reached by about 290 steps, and it is much less crowded than the main beach in town.
-
Many of the businesses in and around town observe the afternoon "riposino pomeridiano" (siesta time) from around 2:00 or so until 4:30 or 5:00, so plan your time accordingly.
-
Public transportation is easily accessed and widely used in town, along the coast from Naples to Sorrento, and along the whole Amalfi Coast. The Circumvesuviana train runs regularly between Naples and Sorrento, stopping at many cities along the way, as well as at Pompeii and Herculaneum. The "SITA" buses can take you from Sorrento all the way to Amalfi, and there is a little city bus that will take you through and around Positano and/or up to the neighboring villages above the town which are also fun to visit.
-
You do not need a car, but be prepared to do a lot of walking in this wonderful, beautiful town.
Ewan Lardner, Stirling, United Kingdom October 7, 2006 - Take a porter if you arrive by boat! The porters who stand by the harbor are legitimate.
