Fantastic
May 2014 - We enjoyed our stay at Villa Micana very much and would certainly come back.
The house was well appointed, comfortable and in excellent condition.
Anna Maria was an excellent host, friendly and welcoming.
Overall a great house and great stay.
Travel tips
- To go anywhere in the area you need to be able to walk mostly up and down stairs (including getting into the property itself) which is also part of the charm of the region.
- The Walk of the Gods walking trail above the house is spectacular (1000 steps up just to get there).
- A small grocery store is a short walk from the Villa Micana and has all that you need for your stay.

March 2014 - We had a wonderful week at Villa Micana.
The view from every room is spectacular. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the mini market had everything we needed (which is hard to imagine because it is really tiny).
The host was very helpful and interesting. She met us on time and even helped with the luggage.
Travel tips
- Parking was easy in March.
- We took a couple of day trips to neighboring places, Positano, Paestum and Herculaneum.
- We also enjoyed lunch in Praiano.

September 2013 - Villa Micana was marvellous and was only some 300 m from where we could park our hire car.
The owner was very helpful throughout, starting with the need to greet us at 11.30 pm (due to our late flight!).
A great place for a relaxing break.
Travel tips
- If you have a hire car, then book a parking place in advance.
- Whilst there is a 'grocery' shop within 300 m, it is tiny and sells merely basics. There are larger shops in Praiano (a longer walk) but don't expect a Carrefour!
- Be prepared to walk down (and especially up!) hundreds of steps if you want to get to Praiano centre and the beaches... but its good exercise!
- It's vital to see all of the towns on the Amalfi coast - the atmosphere is marvellous but driving along the coast road is challenging!

July 2013 - We thought our stay was magical. Anna Maria and Antonio were fabulous hosts, they went above and beyond anything we had imagined. The house was lovely, and lovingly cared for.
We loved the location above the piazza. The piazza was a hub of local activity. We very much enjoyed watching the children play, neighbors interacting, a wedding celebration, and the San Luca celebration. We met many of the neighbors and everyone made us feel welcomed. The lack of quiet during the daytime was not a negative to us. Late at night when everyone went home it was plenty quiet. We slept great there.
We were prepared for the stairs, and as the youngest person in our group was 62, no one who wants to stay in Praiano should let the stairs be a factor. We came home feeling healthy and revitalized.
We were very pleased with Summer In Italy. We appreciate that you did not oversell the various properties. The descriptions were straightforward. That helped us feel we had made a good choice. It's very scary to do something like this over the Internet, going to a place so far from home. We were a little apprehensive until we got there and saw that everything was as it had been represented or better than expected. We thank you for the good job you did in helping us prepare.
Travel tips
- We took the local bus when we went to Positano, but most of the time we just walked to the SITA bus stop at the bottom of the hill.
- In Praiano we walked a lot. We wandered the pedestrian paths and found them as interesting as some of the famous sites we also went to see.
- Spend some time just being there, not necessarily doing something.

June 2013 - We found paradise!! I cannot recommend this villa highly enough. From the minute we arrived to the tearful minute we left every thing was perfect.
First of all the villa is immaculate and refurbished to a very high standard. My family of 5 adults stayed and we were extremely comfortable. The terrace is huge and exceptional with magnificent views of the deep blue sea. When we could tear ourselves away we visited Positano, Amalfi and Pompeii.
We did not have a car but transport was easy by local buses and taxis. Praiano is a delightful quiet place the locals are so friendly and we soon felt part of the community.
The jewel in the crown are the owners Anna Maria and her father Antonio they are such special and welcoming people the best you can find nothing is too much trouble. Anna Maria speaks perfect English and Antonio kept us supplied with fresh veg herbs and eggs plus his famous limoncello all served with his wonderful smile.
I would certainly recommend this villa. It is not suitable for anyone who has mobility problems as there are about 60 steps to reach it. The plus side is that you soon wear off any excess of the delicious food!! And the views are worth the climb. I feel privileged to have found Paradise!!

September 2012 - To say fabulous is to short sell this wonderful destination. From our arrival, with the kitchen stocked with 'first aid', to the extensive surrounding places of interest, to the 6 star facilities on site.
We didn't have nearly enough time at this place and never would! Could not ask for better family or group holiday surroundings and hospitality. Highly recommended!Keep up the good and high standard.

June 2012 - We loved our stay at Villa Micana. The villa was clean and well laid out and the air conditioning was heavenly. The terrace overlooking the ocean was fabulous.
The owners were helpful and lovely hosts.
Being in Praiano, away from the hustle and bustle of Amalfi was also perfect and we loved our little village.
We would highly recommend this villa to anyone staying on the coast.
We would also like to say how much we enjoyed working with Summer in Italy -- everyone was incredibly helpful and professional! Best to you all.
Travel tips
- Do not rent a car but take buses and water taxis!

March 2012 - We loved our stay in Praiano. The villa was spotless and so comfortable. The obvious is the bells that ring but you do get use to that. The bus did not run very often in the off season so the location was a bit of walk especially on the return to the house, up the hill. We did find a taxi that would take us to the small plaza for 10 euros and that helped.
The family could not have been more helpful and so sweet. We felt like we were leaving some family in Italy. It was perfect. Anna Maria [the owner] was just a delight and helped us with so many things.
Travel tips
- Make sure you can walk hills and stairs. This could be a real problem for someone who is not expecting it.
- The off season really is off season. Only a few restaurants open and the bus schedule is definitely something to consider.

October 2011 - We can't say enough wonderful things about Villa Micana! The location itself was amazing: the church yard and square below, the view overlooking the bay (picture postcard), the sound of roosters crowing in the morning.
The warmth and kindness of Antonio and his daughter, Anna Maria who's hospitality went over and beyond expectation and made our trip truly memorable!
Villa Micana itself is beautiful, the rooms more than spacious and comfortable, everything you could possible want is there and in great condition... Anna Maria takes pride in her family home and it shows. We miss being there and we had a hard time saying goodbye at the end of our week.
We would highly recommend Villa Micana, the location (in between the town of Amalfi and Positano) makes it easy to take the bus to either town, in fact we never used our rental car to visit any of the coastal towns, we either took the bus or one of many cabs available with a phone call from the house.
Thank you Anna Maria and Antonio, we miss you and hope to see you once more.
I happen upon your web site while searching for lodgings in Amalfi. I would use Summer in Italy again because they are well organized and I appreciated the fact that all the information I need was provided in a timely manner and the information itself was detailed and true to word. I appreciated that any questions we had were answered promptly. Renting through Summer In Italy was a truly enjoyable experience, thank you Luca.
Travel tips
- Leave the car at the villa and bus it or cab it... much more easy to get around and see the beautiful sites without worrying about where to park and dodging those big buses on tight curves which is a hair raising experience!
- Great excursions: Amalfi boat excursion([email protected]) - see all the coastal towns, all the grottoes and dock in Capri for three hours in your own private boat - very reasonable.
- In Praiano the restaurant Hosteria Il Pino - amazing food (one of the best we had), reasonable prices and free shuttle back home.

July 2011 - Both Maria and her father [the owners] were amazing, they made use feel like family and were really helpful all the time.
We were warned about the bells, we found after the first few rings that it didn't bother us at all, in fact we found that we never needed to use our watches! It's not a problem and we had our own concert on the last day for the festival of St Luca, what a send off...
Keep up the great work.
Travel tips
- Get fit, lots of steps.
- Turn left out of the villa and go to the top path, turn right and you can walk for miles with no hills or steps and amazing views.
- Use the villa like you own home, it is the best place in the world.
- Be warned of the cost of taxis.

June 2011 - Villa Micana was just what we were looking for - peaceful, relaxing and a really picturesque place to stay.
The villa was very clean and well decorated, the rooms were all very good sizes, lots of storage, but what made the place and our time special were the lovely owners, Anna Maria and her father - extremely hospitable and gracious, giving us vegetables from the garden and homemade limoncello.
The good thing about staying at a villa was that you felt part of the community and people were very friendly, the towns around Amalfi are well kept, people keep pride in their gardens and space, with lots of lemon trees (some lemons the size of melons!) olive trees and an abundance of other fruit, veg, flowers.
I will definitely return again one day, this place is something quite special.
Travel tips
- I don't advise bringing a car, parking is hard to find but you really need to know how to drive the hairpin corners and the public transport via bus/taxi is fine. The local bus was near the piazza, but the Sita bus stop was at the bottom of the hill near some shops so make sure you find the right one.
- I would definitely advise visiting a vineyard, we went to Terra di Briganti which was a family run place and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
- We also visited Pompeii, Vesuvius, nearby towns like Ravello, Positano, did a cooking class etc lots to do really!

You are doing a great job! We found you via a website and choose you because of the friendly information provided.
Travel tips
- If you do not have a car you need to have good local transport information and you need to know that there are many stairs to negotiate - and carrying heavy luggage to and from the villa is awkward.

October 2010 - Fantastic. If you want somewhere away from the main tourist spots bot still close by its ideal. Felt like you were part of the local scene.
Anna Maria and her dad [the owners] where very friendly. Papa brought us a bottle of home made lemoncello, very cool.
Outstanding service would highly recommend Summer In Italy.
Travel tips
- We took a car which was probably a mistake. We could park it down the road (10 0m) at no cost but used the SITA bus which stopped close to the villa and was cheep and regular.
- Make sure you go to Restaurant Il Pirata at the beach. It sits right over the water and great for lunch or dinner of a few sunset drinks.

August 2010 - We loved the villa, it was much bigger than the pictures on the web site gave it credit for. The hospitality was also excellent, we were very well looked after.
The villa was clean, excellent facilities, spacious and well equipped.
Travel tips
- Lots of steps so sensible walking shoes and pack 2 lighter suitcases as opposed to one large one.
- Use the villa, enjoy a home from home.

August 2010 - We really enjoyed our stay at the Villa Micana, and Annamaria [the owner] has been really nice and helpful during during our stay.
Two negatives in my view: the church bell ringing every 15 minutes even at night... hard to get some sleep; a bit far from the beach (400 stairs!)
Travel tips
- Praiano is very calm and quiet village compared to others on the Amalfi coast. E.g. very different from Positano or Amalfi. If you are looking for something else (busier, more restaurants, more shopping, etc.) you should choose another village.

August 2010 - Villa Micana and the owners were absolutely fantastic. The owner's father, Antonio never tired of providing fresh veg from the garden as well as his home made Limoncello.
The church bells were noisy but after the first night we didn't really notice them.
I thought you provided an excellent service. You were recommended by a friend who has used you several times.
Travel tips
- I would have no hesitation in recommending the villa to anybody although if you have small children in pushchairs the steps might become a bit tiresome.
- The little shop down the road just past the hardware shop sells everything you need and the meat for the barbecue is unbeatable. You can buy barbecue coals from the hardware shop - Carbone is what you have to ask for.
- We used the Trattoria San Gennaro quite regularly but we also tried Restaurant Il Pirata by the Praia beach and the Hotel Margherita and didn't have a bad meal anywhere.
- My biggest tip is don't drive. The streets are unbelievably narrow and both cars and scooters drive like lunatics. A taxi transfer from Naples costs about 100 Euro. I didn't use my car once while we were there
- public transport is cheap and reliable and you don't have to worry about parking.
- Take some DVD's with you as there is very little to watch on the TV.

May 2010 - Villa Micana was a gorgeous place to stay whilst on the Amalfi Coast. The apartment was exceptionally clean and well furnished and the terrace area was amazing!
Travel tips
- The apartment is located very close to a church so you do need to get used to the bells ringing very often.

May 2010 - Our overall assessment of Villa Micana: perfect. Absolutely perfect.
The owners, Antonio and Anna Maria, father and daughter, were exceptionally warm, and helpful... especially since we missed a flight connection in Rome and didn't arrive at Micana until 10 pm. (The drive from Naples airport is about 90 minutes if you don't get lost.)
And Summer in Italy was amazing... we must have asked a million questions... like, "Are there ice trays?" "Where do we shop?" "Is the a pepper mill?," etc., etc.,... which were always responded to immediately. They are a totally trustworthy, service-oriented, family firm.
So, here are some of our comments about Villa Micana, Praiano and the surrounding area.
ABOUT THE MICANA TERRACE: This is really the centerpiece of the property. It is huge and functions well in sunshine and rain (we had both). If you love living outdoors, this it is it. The terrace was great for sun bathing, cocktails or cooking. In fact, we ended up creating our dinner out there all but one evening.
There are pads for the lounges that make napping outdoors a pleasure. And let us not forget the 180-degree view. Amazing.
Right next to the terrace is a massive vegetable garden (which Antonio lovingly tends to for an hour, or so, each morning) with multiple herbs that we used to flavor our cooking. And... a lemon tree... with your own "personal" lemons.
ABOUT THE MICANA HOUSE: The house offers a view from both bedrooms, the living room and kitchen. Both bedrooms are identical in quality. So if you're traveling as two couples there is no "second class room." The beds were very comfortable.
The bathrooms are both excellent, though the over-the-sink lighting was rather too weak to allow for make-up application (had to move to the balcony for that!). One shower had a "steam chamber" option. We tried using it and blew the circuit breaker... it clearly needs someone with an advanced engineering degree... and who reads Italian... to operate [it is likely to use up a lot of energy, and since Italian homes have a limited amount of power it is possible that other appliances need to be turned off before the steam is turned on; nobody's fault, just feel sorry for us Italians who pay electricity so dear that most of the times we are not able to afford greater availability].
The heating worked well (we never needed air-conditioning, but assume, since it's the same set of units, it would also perform well.)
The kitchen was very well equipped (we learned to love the Moka coffee maker, though there is an American-style machine as well.) The only thing that was a bit odd was the limited number of eating plates (just 3). Maybe there was a recent rash of breakage? In any case it was no problem, as there were just the two of us.
There is a TV, but except for the BBC, you need to be fluent in Italian to use it. The WIFI worked perfectly, as did my US-based iPhone.
There are 76 steps to get to Micana from the parking or bus stop. By the end of the week, we were doing fine, but a bit of "Stairmaster" work prior to going would have made it easier.
The parking is in a secure, covered, lot close by.
ABOUT PRAIANO: We were extraordinarily happy that we staying in this charming town rather than in very crowded Positano, Amalfi or Sorrento. It is truly a village. We went to Tutto per Tutti ("everything for everyone") the local store (though it should be Tutto per Tutti tranne il pesce, "everything for everyone except fish"... the fishmonger is in a different part of town.
There are several restaurants in Praiano, but we loved cooking at the house too much to sample them. We walked down to the Praiano "beach"... a small rocky cove. It was lovely, but it was also 400+ steps back up. Think ahead.
The great part of Villa Micana's location is that it is directly above the large piazza in front of the church where many townspeople gather to talk and children to play soccer. Just listening to the sounds of families enjoying themselves while having a glass of wine was spectacular. You don't get that everywhere.
Yes, the church has bells. And they ring around the clock. But, we found them lovely and they never bothered at all.
ABOUT THE AREA: Though buses are frequent, we were very happy we had a car. It gives you flexibility that buses can't easily provide. Parking can be expensive, true, though, by NYC standards, it's cheap. Direction signage is in very short supply, but we managed to find our way around getting lost only 3 or 4 times (a portable GPS would be very helpful.) Driving along the Amalfi requires a great deal of concentration, a great, great deal, but is, nonetheless, very do-able. You need a very small car to survive. And all of them have manual transmissions, so, if you're not used to a stick shift, it would be better to opt for 100% public transport.
We enjoyed Ravello and Pompeii, both sort of the classic destinations in the area. For Pompeii, we opted to hire private guide (about $250) for several hours which made the experience far more meaningful. The 600 step walk down from Ravello to Atrani very terrific. It was not easy, but certainly more so than the climb would have been. And, in Amalfi, we were totally fascinated by the 700 year old hand made paper factory. Positano was fun for clothes shopping. We also went to Sorrento, but found it very crowded and not much fun.
Fully appreciating the Amalfi coast and how so many of the structures are nestled into the side of steep slopes requires seeing the coast from the sea. We did it two different ways. We first took the ferry from Amalfi to Salerno and back which was delightful and took about 2 hours. Then, on another day we contracted with Amalfi Charter and were escorted by the owner's son, Manuel, too all of the grottos and islands (including the island Nureyev owned for many years.)

May 2010 - Villa Micana was a very nice villa.
The outdoor terrace with great sea view, tables, chairs and grill was excellent.
Big bedrooms and exclusive bathrooms.
The landlady's old father who lived below was a very nice man.
So, yes we enjoyed it very much, after a day you even forgot the church bells.

- Nice city, Positano.

October 2009 - After being in the heart of Rome for one week, we were looking forward to a more quiet and relaxing experience. With the exception of the church bells that rang outside both bedroom windows every 15 minutes, we were pleased with the Villa Micana. It was super clean and beautifully decorated.
The villa owner was wonderful in that she responded to our questions immediately. There were plenty of good quality towels to use and we also had the use of her washing machine which was very appreciated.
Travel tips
- If you are planning on renting a car, choose a very small one as parking is a huge issue. There is no parking close to the villa as there is only resident parking. Also... make sure you have a GPS with you, very helpful!
- Don't bring heavy suitcases with you as you have to carry them up the stairs. The stairs were well lit at night and were easy for us to manage, but if you have any hip or knee problems, you might want to check into something with fewer stairs.
- The local bus is a great way to get around, especially if you are planning on going to Positano. Get your tickets at the little grocery store as you can save a little money and get the schedule there too. You have to walk past the store on your way to the villa.
- The local pizzeria (a 15 minute walk away) has WONDERFUL pizza and is very inexpensive. It's the only one in Praiano and all the local people go there.
- We were not crazy about eating at the Hotel Margherita. Food was so-so for the price we paid.
- We walked into the main town of Praiano and enjoyed the Bar del Sole and also the hotel Tramonto D'Oro restaurant across the road. Lovely to have dinner on the outside patio and the food was excellent too!
- If you plan to cook, you will need to source out fresh fruits and veggies. The little grocery store on the street has frozen food, milk, cheese, fresh breads and meats, but no fresh fruit or veggies.
- If you have kids, bring your own DVDs with you. The TV is huge, but the English viewing is very limited.
- If you have an opportunity, go to Ravello just past the town of Amalfi. We went back there 3 times. We pre-booked a one day cooking class with Mamma Agata (check out her web-site), this was an amazing experience, and then twice just to go back for lunch at the Hotel Amore and then just to marvel in the beauty of that community. Food in Ravello was the BEST we had in 2 weeks of Italy!

July 2009 - We had a beautiful stay at Villa Micana, nice location for adults and children.
It absolutely meet our expectations for a week in Amalfi coast. It was centrally located - with good bus communications wherever we would like to go.
Travel tips
- Just enjoy the view, use the piazza in front of St Luca church and blend with locals. Watch a football game at night time.
- Bring your own DVD`s to enjoy at night time (especially for children) due to no good international channels on TV.

May 2009 - This was a treat for my mothers 70th birthday and she absolutely loved it - even the church bells.
The Villa was lovely and felt like home from home.

We would love to go back.
Travel tips
- We rented a car, ended up not using it and paying the owner 10 Euro a day for parking - expensive.
- The bus is great and take good walking shoes.
- There is a good all round shop just where the bus stop drops you off.
- The Pizza restaurant on the main road is very good value, it is also the local scooter rental place.

May 2009 - Villa Micana was beautiful and the out door entertaining area was excellent we were very impressed with the Villa.
The only down point was the hot water. There was never enough hot water for 4 showers. The last person always had a cold shower. It didn't matter that much as the temperature was above 24 C.
Overall Villa Micana was above expectation and the owners went above and beyond there duty to make our stay enjoyable
I was very happy with Summer in Italy they were very helpful and the Villa was exactly how they described it.
I would use there services again and have no problem recommending this website to friends.
“A quick tip on how to deal with the Italian hot water boilers, which are often smaller and less powerful than their foreign counterparts: try to allow some time between showers. Our (Italian) problem is with the limited amount of electricity we have in our homes, which forces us to use smaller electric boilers (and take quick showers, alas). We are so used to it that we hardly notice, and when we are told we feel sorry... thank you for having such a wonderful attitude and for coping with the cultural difference!„

April 2009 - We very much enjoyed it, we liked the apartment very much, it was very pretty and the owner who lived in the same building was very very friendly.
His daughter, who came to meet us when we arrived was also friendly even though we got stuck in traffic and arrived late at night.
We were happy with your services.
Travel tips
- There really are not many shops in close walking distance and the walk to the village centre is quite hilly and takes some time. There is one restaurant nearby which was great ( especially with children), delicious food and very friendly service.
- For holidays with small children, I did not find it very convenient as it is located in the old town with very limited access and using prams is out of the question. However, the apartment is very beautiful and the view absolutely stunning.

April 2009 - Villa Micana is excellent. Very comfortable, ideal for a family of 4. The only drawback is the church next door whose bells chime a lot and loudly every quarter of an hour.
