Excellent

July 2012 - We had a wonderful time staying at Villa Gertrude. The location, just outside of Amelia, is fantastic. Secluded, beautiful, with a great view of the Umbrian hills and farmland. We really felt like we were away from it all. The pool was lots of fun the kids went in it 2 or 3 times per day. The pool was a perfect size.

We ate on the terrace for breakfast and dinner, and it was fabulous.

We had two families, with four adults and 3 kids total. Villa Gertrude was a perfect size for us. The "annex" was great for a couple of teenagers or any couple.

Ms. Eka, the caretaker of the house was super friendly and very, very helpful. She couldn't have been better.

Travel tips

  • Make sure to walk around Amelia in the late afternoon. It is very quiet and mostly abandoned of shops (they've moved outside the town's walls). The views from the park near the duomo are beautiful and the people are friendly.
  • Be sure to go to Restaurant Anita while you're there. It's a little short on ambiance and decor, but the food and service are top notch!!

Excellent

August 2011 - This is a terrific property; ideal for a family holiday. No complaints at all…

It is probably better for a grown-up family than for one with small children; the steps down to the pool are quite long and steep and the main bedroom is a couple of staircases away from the other bedrooms. (some parents of small children may think this is a distinct advantage of course!).

We were very satisfied with everything. The owner's father, Michael, was a charming and helpful neighbour.

Your service was most efficient. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • There is a well-stocked Coop in Amelia, about 5 minutes away. We did all our grocery/wine shopping there.
  • In mid-summer, come equipped with large supply of a strong mosquito repellent. We didn't and we got badly bitten on the first night. The mozzies are not a problem once you are prepared with the correct lotions and potions.
  • The villa is well located for visits to the towns in southern Umbria: Orvieto, Todi, Spoleto, Narni and Lugnano are essential trips. All within about 1 hour drive.
  • If you want to visit Rome, I suggest you go by train from the station at Orte Scalo (not from Narni Scalo where the trains are infrequent).

July 2011 - The villa was fantastic and very charming with a very personal twist. We spent almost every evening at the terrace overlooking the beautiful view!

We bought eggs at Franco, also his own oil.

We only met very friendly people all over Amelia!!

We found Villa Gertrude surfing the internet. We will recommend it any time. We haven't had any problems in terms of communication with "Summer in Italy"

Travel tips

  • We tasted a lot of the wine you can buy from the local estates. Also we tasted olive oil.
  • We visited many of the nearby towns: Orvieto, Narni, Terni, Orte, Perugia and Rome.
  • Bring good shoes for walking, if you like to walk.

Unfortunately, Villa Gertrude can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
