The view from the terrace is wonderful

September 2017 - We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Assiolo. Very spacious house with all you need for a pleasant stay. The view from the terrace is wonderful and the location is close to the main restaurants and activities areas.

Everything was ready at our early arrival and this was very appreciated given our long overnight flights.

The booking process was easy to do and we certainly will recommend to friends.

Summer in Italy was wonderful to work with. We would absolutely recommend you to any of our friends travelling to Italy. One of our friends recommended Summer in Italy and we were very happy with the many property choices we had and also very pleased we chose Villa Assiolo.

Excellent

June 2011 - Villa Assiolo was a perfect surprise for my mum on her 60th birthday. It was very big with enough space for 3 couples to have privacy. The view was AMAZING and you could hear the sea from the balcony which was very peaceful.

The steps were a little bit hard for the day but I had recently broken my ankle and coped fine and my Dad, at 65, was fine too. It helps you to work off the calories after the big meals!

The lady who cleaned the villa was very helpful with information, as were most people in Positano. There is some noise in the evenings, at weekends, from revellers walking up the steps but it did not disturb us much.

I would love to go back again and would definitely recommend Villa Assiolo as it is in a great location, with fab views and is a lovely quirky Italian Villa with loads of character (but modern touches too).

Summer In Italy is a great company, very helpful! Thank You very much!

Travel tips

  • Get your groceries delivered from the grocery store at the bottom of the church - really friendly and helpful people.
  • We found the cost of food pretty pricey in Positano but the take away at Restaurant Capriccio (also near the steps to the church) is very reasonable.
  • If you walk along the footpath to Fornillo beach, the beach bar there is the cheapest place to get food in Positano - they do great Mozzarella and roasted pepper insalate.
  • For a romantic meal try Restaurant Lo Guarracino which is also on the walk to Fornillo beach (only 10 mins walk from the villa), it has the best views and reasonable prices.
  • Transport - buses to and from Amalfi, Sorrento etc are frequent and cheap but avoid the 600 steps that we took to catch a bus and go down to the the main shopping area just back from the church where there is an alleyway up to the main road and bus stop (no steps!!). You have to buy your tickets from a newsagents, they advertise that tickets are for sale outside their shops.
  • We got a taxi to and from the airport for 100 Euros with Renato Cuomo taxi's in Sorrento - very good value as we were quoted 170 Euros from a taxi company in Positano! They also speak good English and will ring ahead to the property to arrange a meeting place.

Excellent

October 2010 - We had a wonderful stay at Villa Assiolo.

The view was spectacular and we ate most of our meals on the terrace enjoying sunrises and sunsets.

The bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable.

By the very nature of Positano consisting of 'staircases' we were conscious of voices of passersby during the night.

The caretaker welcomed us warmly and helped us settle in.

A very positive experience and we would recommend the property to anyone planning a holiday in Positano.

The service provided by Summer in Italy has been first class. I cannot think of one suggestion for improvement. You are total professionals. Many thanks.

Travel tips

  • Restaurant Chez Black, right on the beach. Excellent food and service.
  • Local bus to Amalfi (morning) and from there up to Ravello (afternoon), Magnificent views from Ravello (Richard Wagner once lived in that small village).
  • Blue Grotto at Capri is far too busy with tourists. The equally beautiful Emerald Grotto (quick boat trip from Positano) is a better option.

July 2009 - We enjoyed Villa Assiolo enormously.

The location in Positano is truly special. We loved walking the scalinatella [the characteristic stairway] in the village. We loved getting to know the grocery shops and fruit vendors. The town is beautiful.

The kitchen, though small, is perfectly functional and we made some lovely meals there.

The terrace is small for more than six people to sit at table and eat. But with the weather and the view as glorious as it was, it seemed a shame to eat within doors. Half of the terrace has a spectacular view of town, the spiaggia, and the mountainous coastline. The other half of the terrace has a view obscured by the nearby rooftops. For meals there is a collapsible teak table and folding chairs. We set up the table and then put it away with each meal. We then had the beautiful half of the terrace for sitting on to read and chat.

The organization of the apartments allowed some private space for everyone. The living room was separated from the level with terrace, so it some people wanted to watch TV or be away from the sun, they had a retreat. However, we mostly spent our time on the terrace.

In summary, this villa is a good family choice. It is not luxurious, but it is homey and clean and very well appointed.

Unfortunately, Villa Assiolo can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
