August 2011 - A very spacious 2 bedroom apartment. This is quite an old building with thick walls, so don't be put off by the lack of air conditioning - we went in the first 2 weeks of August and never were we uncomfortable or too hot because the house stays cool.

Luca, the owner lives in the apartment above and is very helpful, but not intrusive.

We liked the fact that Casa Amalia was within easy walking distance of the picturesque beach of Marina di Praia, where we swam nearly every day.

A wonderful, unforgettable holiday.

Summer in Italy made it easy for me to feel confident with my booking. Your staff spoke good English and were courteous and patient. Thanks and ciao!

Travel tips

  • Don't be put off by no air conditioning - we went in early August and the thick walls kept the house nice and cool.
  • Not too many steps to climb compared with many of the properties, as Casa Amalia is lower down the hill, but still with fabulous views over the bay from the terrace.
  • Easy access to the beach - 6 minutes.
  • Close to bus services for Sorrento and Amalfi.
  • Lots of good restaurants easily reachable by foot.
  • I was worried about getting around without a car, but there was no problem and the coach transfer from Airport Napoli to Sorrento was 10 Euro each, then from Sorrento to Praiano was about 7 Euro each.
  • Talk to Luca, the owner who lives in the apartment upstairs. He has a lot of local knowledge and speaks excellent English.

June 2011 - We had a great time. The location was fantastic. The apartment was comfortable and clean.

It was noisy from the road but fantastic access to the beach, road, supermarket, etc. putting up with the noise was better than having to climb 350 steps for a quieter location!

Travel tips

  • Great location!

May 2011 - Yes, we all enjoyed our stay at Casa Amalia.

Could not fault Summer in Italy - helpful at every stage of booking and information provided was first rate.

Having left my purse (wallet) behind Summer in Italy and owner were extremely prompt in arranging its return to me.

Travel tips

  • Although the owner lives 'upstairs' he was very unobtrusive - thus we had the benefit of his being on hand if necessary but he respected our privacy.
  • The apartment is ideally placed for the beach and restaurants.
  • The kitchen is not particularly well equipped - no iron, or sharp knives, for instance.

August 2010 - We enjoyed our stay at there, indeed. The apartment was great, room more than enough for four people.

Location is good, view was great too from the balcony - we spent nice evenings sitting there and just enjoy the summer there.

We could visit Positano, Minori, Maiori, Pompeii, Vesuvio, Capri and also a little hiking at the mountains - was just great.

It was a good place to walk out as we could not drive by car too much - but we did not miss it at all.

Administration and service was good and reliable, we got exactly what we expected and exactly what was described on the net.

Travel tips

  • Just relax and enjoy the blue sky - and listen to the owner's recommendation related to shops, buss es and specially to insects.
  • Take the Capri boat from Praiano, that was a great adventure.
  • Walk a lot and take the local bus, no car.
  • We also recommend to walk up to the hills and try to reach the "Sentiero degli Dei" - this is unforgettable!! Be aware that the path is steep, but can be managed by an average fit person, no problem.

August 2008 - We absolutely LOVED our stay at Casa Amalia and the owners were amazing!!

July 2008 - Excellent apartment - a little sparse on utensils but family were very obliging and let us borrow the odd dish as required

The individual information left by the owner was fantastic re shops and bus service etc.

Travel tips

  • Having your own car could cause problems with parking. We were lucky and did manage walking to where we were able to park the car but others might not be so happy about the distance from the apartment.

June 2008 - Yes, we very much enjoyed Casa Amalia. It was very peaceful and relaxing.

The location was perfect since we were in between two towns.

The hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. They were very - very nice!!

Summer Italy, the company itself, always responded to my e-mail promptly, had a very professional tone and were efficient. Thank you!

Travel tips

  • Travel light, there are so many steps, especially when you have to bring your luggage to the villa.

October 2007 - My stay at Casa Amalia was wonderful.

By far it's greatest attribute was it's owner, Mr. Luca. He is a warm, friendly and informative host.

Casa Amalia itself was very clean and had an amazing view!

The decor is somewhat dated but it was in good condition. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

September 2007 - Casa Amalia was a great apartment. There was more than enough space.

There were many stairs and too much luggage. I would pack light if you stay here.

It was in a very charming area! The people are very nice and you're around all locals. Very relaxing area. The beach is very close.

Mr. Luca, the owner, was the best. He gave us a tour of the area and was informative when we needed to get somewhere.

It is a nice apartment with a very good location.

Travel tips

  • This is a good location to stay with teenagers who like to go out, as it is right in front of a discotheque. [In case you are wondering, no one ever reported noise coming from the disco!]

July 2007 - We adored it. So spacious. Plenty of space for 2 energetic children to chill, while the parents sieste'd during the heat of the day! Views from the terrace were amazing and a lovely place for your evening meal when you decide to do a little home cooking.

The location is superb, but because of the proximity to the road you do get some noise. However, this didn't bother us. And the alternative would be a further 100 steps up the hill. We liked having the beach nearby.

The family above were so welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. We would definitely go back again.

July 2007 - We enjoyed it, but the first day was little bit hard. We were not prepared for many, many steps with cases a bags.

This location is not suitable for small children or people with handicaps. Be prepared that it is not possible to use your car during your holiday due to lack of parking places. It is useful to have not very big and heavy cases because of many steps.

August 2006 - Casa Amalia is a great place to have a holiday.

The view is very relaxing and the location of the villa makes it easy to access Positano and Amalfi for a day outing.

Summer in Italy were very well organised and helpful and made it easy to deal with them to organise our holiday in Italy and to ask any questions about the area or the location.

July 2006 - We were a family of 4, in Casa Amalia for two weeks & had a fantastic holiday. The apartment is perfectly adequate without being grand, the location is superb, the local facilities were good.

Beaches ideal for children, although stony (no sand) and occasional jellyfish! Local food & wine great, and the beach restaurants were all good, with helpful staff.

Time moves slower - so if you are arriving from a city you will have to take a deep breath & learn to wait for things. It will be worth it.

Best way to get around - boat! altho' water taxis expensive: we compromised with inexpensive roller-coaster rides on the local buses out and water taxis (fantastic!) back home again. Parents enjoyed the bus rides but the kids clutched plastic bags after 15 mins.

Preferred to stay on our beach tho' (15 long minutes down and more back up all the steps: good for the glutes.)

Owners were fantastically welcoming & helpful.

Amalfi Coast Car Service very good also for transfers. Go see Pompeii!!

All your information and advice was very useful - a very helpful organisation that we will certainly look at again when we next holiday in Italy. Many thanks & ciao!

July 2006 - Casa Amalia was very nice and the owners friendly and helpful. It was comfortable and very clean with a wonderful balcony looking over the Amalfi Coast. It is not near central Praiano so it is difficult to get groceries and takes some planning to get settled. It is not in Praiano but more on the outskirts and one must use the bus system and plan ahead.

One of the best restaurants in the whole area is within walking distance, Il Pirata, but remember everything is a climb. We personally liked the beach in Positano and would use this as our base most days. The people in the area are all very friendly.

June 2006 - Casa Amalia is the perfect location for your Amalfi Coast vacation. It is within walking distace to the beach, close to a supermarket, and minutes away from both Amalfi and Positano. The owner, Luca, was extremely helpful and nice. He went above and beyond to help us and the fact that he speaks English made everything easier.

Please note that the 100 steep steps to/from street level may be a challenge for some guests. I was a bit concerned about my children (ages 10 and 12), but they made a game out of climbing up without stopping! We came home in great shape!

I would definitely tell all guests (especially American ones) NOT to rent a car. The winding roads make for a very challenging drive and there is NO place to park the car nearby. Your best bet is to take the train to Sorrento and the SITA bus to Praiano.

Overall, it was a fantastic week and we'd definitely stay at Casa Amalia again.

I was very impressed with both the website and the service. You provided very thorough information, follow-up, and travel advice. I'll definitely use your services again and recommend Summer in Italy to all my friends! Thanks!

May 2006 - We enjoyed Casa Amalia. We found it very roomy for 4 persons, and conveniently located on the Amalfi coast.

In comparison with other places we stayed it looks a little "tired" on the inside - perhaps it needs some up-dating to modernize the interior. The owner was very informative and very helpful.

The service we received from Summer In Italy was first-class. It was attentive, timely, and accurate. We booked with you following a recommendation from some friends.

September 2005 - We enjoyed Casa Amalia very much, there is plenty of space and the balcony is great.

The view is lovely.

It is a good place to stay as it is near to buses so that you can easily get to other places whilst staying in quieter spot.

The people in local shop and restaurants were very pleasant and helpful.

Approx 100 steps down (and obviously back up again) to main road so not for the faint hearted, at least it kept us fit.

We look forward to returning.

We were very happy with your service and with Casa Amalia. We found your site searching for accomodation on Amalfi Coast and you seemed to provide all that we needed.

September 2005 - I spent three weeks at Casa Amalia with my children.

The villa is clean, spacious and very well situated, handy for the local buses, just opposite.

The owner and his family made us more than welcome, very helpful in giving us advice on getting around, where to shop and even a bit of local history.

Thank you for an enjoyable stay I will certainly recommend you to my friends.

July 2005 - As this was our first trip to the Amalfi coast we must say it was a positive experience. Breathtaking views and nice people everywhere.

We highly recommend Casa Amelia for other visitors.

It had a fantastic view and it was really nice to sit on the terrace during the evening.

The owner and his parents made their best to make us feel good. The town of Praiano was nice and quiet, and when we felt for some more crowded places it was easy to travel by bus to either Amalfi or Positano.

May 2005 - We had a wonderful time in Praiano and at Casa Amalia in particular. Our host, Luca, was very helpful about the house and about finding things in the town.

It was a perfect vacation spot for our family because we love to hike and then to relax looking at the beautiful view.

We would love to return and highly recommend the accommodations. Also we were very impressed with the "summerinitaly" website and making our arrangements through them.

April 2005 - We enjoyed our week at Casa Amalia very much. We greatly appreciated the welcome from Mr Luca, especially because he escorted us up to the local store for our first shop (it might have taken us ages to find it otherwise).

Casa Amalia was very clean and tidy and had most things we needed for a pleasant stay.

We were glad we hadn't rented a car because the buses stopped just below the house and the timetable was easy to use. It was a great base from which to visit Pompei, Positano, Amalfi and Capri.

The restaurant at the Open Gate was very nice and going there avoided the somewhat scary walk along the coast and throught the tunnel to the other part of Praiano.

The service provided by Summer In Italy was excellent. The links to the taxi service and SITA bus timetables were very helpful and it was reassuring to know that the people we had booked through were local to the area and had visited all the properties.

The photos and information on the website were very accurate and Casa Amalia was exactly as described on the website.

We would definitely recommend your company to anyone looking to rent a property in Italy.

October 2004 - We had an absolute fabulous time and enjoyed every minute of it. Casa Amalia is real nice and well kept apartment and has a great seaside view.

We found it to be extremely well situated for making day trips and it’s also within walking distance of a very nice little beach. It does take some tough uphill walking and stair climbing but worth the effort.

We also found the local shop very convenient and provides an interesting walk to get there.

The owner is also very friendly and helpful. As we were there in October we had no issues parking. The Amalfi coast is truly breath taking and a destination we for sure will visit again in the future.

We found Summer In Italy through the internet and found your site to be high quality and user friendly. Its always a bid of a gamble to rent via internet. But in your case, your total service is of a very high and profesional standard. My compliments. Next time we will go that direction Summer in Italy will be the first site to check.

September 2004 - We had a delightful, very restful stay. The village is charming, the owners are hospitable and helpful, the apartment is comfortable, and the view from the terrace is breathtaking. But be prepared for some vigorous walking and many steep stone stairways to take advantage of the beach, restaurants and grocery shopping.

September 2004 - Our stay at Casa Amalia was exceptional. The terrain with its many steep steps took some getting used to, but the exercise paid off!

Luca [the owner] and his family were wonderful. The only downside was the noise in the early morning hours when the trash was picked up on the street below the apartment. There's nothing anyone can do about that, and it wasn't really a problem.

You made it easy for us to travel to Italy. Your advice about trains and buses proved to be right on target. We had no problems, except when the road to Sorrento washed out and we had to go to Amalfi. But how wonderful for us. We took a boat from Amalfi to Naples and enjoyed it immensely.

September 2004 - Casa Amalia is in a wonderful position in Praiano, near to the beach and buses. Links to Amalfi and Positano are excellent.

It is cool and spacious inside with extremely large living area and both bedrooms leading on to a beautiful terrace, so that you can see the sea without getting out of bed!

It feels safe and secure with the gate at the top of the steps and the owners living above. We appreciated the owners' concern and warm welcome to our stay.

I would not hesitate to book and look forward to another stay at Casa Amalia, as well as to recommend Casa Amalia to my family and friends.

I am so happy to have discovered the Summer in Italy website! It is so easy to use and we have now made three bookings with you this year and look forward to using the website in the future. Thank you.

August 2004 - For most of the family it was the first visit to Italy. We enjoyed our stay at Casa Amalia very much and were lucky to have almost unbroken good weather.

The apartment is very close to the SITA bus stop for both directions to travel along the coast and the shop for buying the tickets. Luca (the owner) showed us how to get to the nearest shops and amenities which was very useful.

Even though we had a hire car we still used the bus on several days to travel because parking is very very limited in most of the towns on the Amalfi coast including Praiano and often costs €3/hour in central parts of the villages.

Next time we'll hire scooters they look fun, when you've visited the place you'll understand why !

October 2003 - Casa Amalia was wonderful. Our host, Luca was charming, helpful and lived right upstairs. He was available with advice and helpful hints. He even took us grocery shopping.

The villa is lovely and well appointed. The terrace overlooks the sea and there is a charming little cove with restaurants just minutes away. We did not have a car and took the Sita bus and little Positano bus everywhere.

I would stay in Casa Amalia again and was quite pleased with the ease of making the arrangements with Summer In Italy. Ciao!

Unfortunately, Casa Amalia can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
