September 2010 - We loved Appartamento Gabriele. The owner was very helpful and couldn't have been nicer.

The apartment was charming and we loved the design details of the space. Best of all for us was the small patio overlooking the Aurelian wall. We sat there for meals and well into the evening soaking up the beauty of Roma and reminiscing about the days events.

The location was perfect. It was quiet, in a residential neighborhood, not flooded with tourists and noise. It was convenient to public transportation and several small restaurants and stores.

Thank you (Luca and Andrea) for all your help and patience in this process. The information in making the reservations was the best of any site we researched, as I said in the past. Your information was accurate and the photos really helped but did not oversell. We will recommend you to friends and be back for our next holiday to Italy, which will not be soon enough. Please contact us any time if you need further recommendations.

June 2010 - The apartment Gabriele was perfect. Great location, very well equipped and the air conditioning was very important (very hot period).

The manager was also very helpful at the check-in.

Everything was clear and well explained. Thank you.

May 2010 - We loved the apartment and it was so lovely to have a terrace. Each morning we had breakfast on the terrace (ie when it was fine!) and on sunny days the sun would stream down on us.

The apartment was well equipped and we did not have to disturb Gabriele at all. Gabriele did give us some tips which were very handy such as catching the indispensable 64 bus that was 2 minutes down the street. This bus took you to all the major sights and on the way back its depot was only 200 metres from the supermarket and right at the train station.

There were many handy restaurants and the Vatican was only 5 minutes walk.

The street was very quiet and peaceful and you felt you were miles away from a big city.

It is a very easy apartment to keep clean.

Travel tips

  • Just enjoy it, Gabriele lives next door but he is not at all invasive and after giving us a few handy tips we did not see him again until we left.
  • Bus 64 (2 mins walk) is a must and walking up the street to the Garibaldi Gardens gives you an excellent view of Roma.

November 2009 - 300 metres from St Peter's made it a perfect location from which to explore Rome. The apartment contained everything that the visitor could need. The owner was most helpful.

Great service - as usual!

October 2009 - Appartamento Gabriele is in a terrific location.

It is great for a family, good sized rooms, comfortable beds.

Travel tips

  • It is very central to St Peters and the city can be accessed by foot or by the 64 bus which was excellent.

May 2009 - Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable. The location was perfect for ease of getting to bus and metro, very close for walking almost everywhere, but was so very quiet at night.

Grocery store, cafes, shops and bus ticket locations all within a few minutes walk of the apartment.

With no air conditioning, the fans provided were welcome and it was very comfortable for sleeping. The kitchen was well equipped and made it very economical for meals. We ate breakfast in every day, and cooked dinner a few times.

I would stay there again on any future trips to Rome.

Summer in Italy was wonderful! My emails were always answered promptly. I found out about you from a neighbor. I have told everyone I know about you.

Travel tips

  • The switch for the hot water in the bathroom needs to be left on (top part pushed in)!
  • Buy a 4 pack of bottled water at the grocery store (bottom of hill take a left on via Fornaci, 1/3 mile up on right) then refill at the apartment to bring with you during the day. You can refill as needed during your walks around the city from the numerous water spigots.
  • Bus 64 (right at the bottom of the hill - 1 Euro) takes you to downtown (Templi Repubblicani). From there it is a few minutes walk to anywhere.
  • The Metro station (Ottaviano) is within 10 minutes walk. Take shortcut straight across St Peter's Square. Buy tickets from the machine in the station (1 Euro per ride) 2 stops to Santa Maria Del Popolo, 3 stops to the Spanish Steps, 4 to the Triton Fountain, 6 to the main train station.
  • Buy a good guide book that has a city map!
  • Don't try to see everything in one day! Break the city into sections. One day alone for the Vatican and St Peter's (buy Vatican Museum tickets on line in advance and skip the very long lines), a day for the ancient city (Forum, Palatine Hill, Colosseum), a day for the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, and a whole day for churches (we did not get to see all the churches we wanted because most are closed for a couple of hours at lunchtime - check your guidebook!)
  • After walking 5 or 6 hours a day, coming home to a cold Peroni from the fridge and sitting on the terrace was wonderful!

May 2009 - Appartamento Gabriele was a great place to stay.

The hot water system was strange, if you made a mistake with the switches in the bathroom, it should be better marked. The guest book was a great resource and guide for staying in the area. Location was excellent. The owner was not in Italy, so I was a little unsure what we would do if we had a problem.

It was hot while we were there, and the owner had provided fans which were great. The balcony was an enjoyable feature.

Very nice place, clean, and location was great.

Guests who book with Summer In Italy are never alone! In case a problem arises and the owner is not around, please feel free to call our 24/7 help center. We have contacts for the owner's relatives, neighbours and temporary caretakers. In the specific case, we were aware that the owner had to be abroad at the time, and knew that the person to contact for any problem was the owner's father. We take care of the details, so you don't have to :-)

Travel tips

  • Read the guest comment book for tips on restaurants, grocery store, and other tips.

September 2008 - We did enjoy Appartamento Gabriele.

The proximity to the Vatican and bus stops made it easy to get around Rome.

The city had a horrible heat wave while we were there and the apartment got quite hot during the day, but there were some standing fans that helped a little. Other than the heat, which no one has control over, we had a wonderful visit in a great city.

The Summer in Italy staff was wonderful. Answered all my questions I sent through email within 24 hrs or less. One of the best things that they did for us was to recommend a private driver for the Amalfi Coast: Claudio Lucibello (www.amalficoastcarservice.it). We took the train to Naples and he met us at the train station with a sign that had my name on it. He was wonderful and he showed us the entire coast, including a marvelous place to have lunch in Positano.

Thanks to all the staff at Summer in Italy for being so helpful. I have recommended you to everyone I speak with since I have returned home.

August 2008 - We enjoyed our 5 night stay at Appartamento Gabriele very much.

We had an emergency while at the apartment and Gabriele let us use his phone and phone card to contact our family at home in the USA. We can not say enough about the kindness shown to us.

Many many thanks to all.

Travel tips

  • Don't take a taxi from the airport. It was the worst ride of our lives!

March 2008 - The apartment is very conveniently located, close to the Vatican, restaurants, grocery store, and bus station from where the rest of “centro storico” and greater Rome is very reachable in minutes.

Living so close to the Vatican and across the street from a wall built in the third century by the emperor Aurelio brought a special feeling of being immersed in history throughout our visit!

The apartment is spacious (by European standards) and has everything one needs (kitchen, two bedrooms, living room, small terrace). The owner is also a very pleasant person.

Overall, a very satisfying experience.

We had a very good experience with Summer in Italy. We liked your professionalism both in organizing the trip and in communication. Thank you.

Travel tips

  • Don't visit Rome in March (nothing to do with the apartment). The weather is worse than in winter (according to a Roman guide) - bitter cold, windy and rainy (it can't get worse than that!). We had only one day of break with sun and warmer temperature.

January 2008 - We loved Appartamento Gabriele. The location for us was wonderful, within a five minute walk to St. Peters. Wonderful restaurants, pastry and sandwich shops, and a Bancomat were even closer.

We walked all over Rome from the apartment (the Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Trastevere) and took taxi's when we needed to. It is also very close to convenient bus lines.

The owner was extremely helpful and provides information for the area in the apartment.

The accommodations were roomy and the bathroom is really quite big. The kitchen was very functional.

I highly recommend this apartment for anyone who wants to visit Rome.

Keep up the good work! You guys are fabulous!

Travel tips

  • Restaurant La Vittoria, at the bottom of the hill on Via Fornaci is a wonderful restaurant. We ate there several times.
  • Another restaurant not to be missed for at least one meal is I Quattro Mori, also within walking distance.
  • The grocery store is a 10 minute walk up Via Fornaci.
  • The owner has a guest book, and you should read what other guests have written for suggestions as well.

June 2007 - Very pleasant, well cared for, apartment.

Centrally located and within walking distance of public transport etc.

Very kind and attentive owner.

Travel tips

  • If you are arriving by bus from the station, walk back down the road on the same side as the bus stop 50 meters or so, and then cross this road by using the underpass. As you emerge from the underpass, the cobbled street leading sharply up the hill on your left is the road the apartment is on.
  • There's an excellent fruit/veg and general grocer's shop on Via Della Stazione San Pietro (opposite the end of the road called Via Alessandro).

January 2007 - We loved Appartamento Gabriele. My one and only complaint - and it isn't even really a complaint - is that the kitchen is a little on the cramped side, but then I love to cook and I'm sure most people would find it perfectly acceptable.

The apartment is on a very quiet street (so hard to come by in Rome) and the buildings on the street are beautiful.

There is a very nice terrace off the living room and had it been just a bit warmer we would have loved to sit out there (but in first week of January it's a bit cool in the morning and evenings).

The apartment is a five minute walk to St. Peter's and so is very well located, with good restaurants nearby and a grocery store about 10 minutes up the street. We were able to walk to almost everywhere from here.

The owner was very gracious and let us store our luggage in his apartment next door because we had arrived very early in the morning and had to return our car to the airport.

The building itself is very well maintained and in a lovely setting. I would stay here again at the drop of a hat.

You guys are great. This is our third rental with you (Sorrento and Tuscany previous to this) and I was thrilled to find that you had added an apartment in Rome to your portfolio of properties. You obviously choose your properties (and proprietors) with care and you are always accessible and a pleasure to deal with.

Unfortunately, Appartamento Gabriele can not be booked at this time.

We would love to help you find a suitable alternative. Please be in touch for personal advice from our staff!
