Sorrentine Peninsula

At a distance of about 50 km in the south of the Neaples district, the Surrentine peninsula extends itself into the sea, subsided on a tufaceous shore, the Homeric land of the sirens, descrived by men of letters and poets, that always charmes , ravishing its visitor's heart and eyes.

View of Sorrento - Sorrentine Peninsula and Vesuvius

Surrounded by  the "Lattari Mountains" and by the sea, the peninsula had always been an ideal place for living since the Palaeolithic, through its morphological conformation, that makes it untouchable.

During the centuries, even though a mild and moderate clime, several dominations followed one other, producing small or large modifications to the territory. A remarkable innovation can be imputed to the greece conquerors, witch introduced the "terrace-cultivation" - the territory alternates tableland, litte hills and deep canyons - making it cultivable and introducing vines and olivetrees, that are aslo peculiar if this territory nowadays. But the symbolic cultivation of  Sorrento and its surroundings are the citrus plantations.

Coming in these places the tourist is immediatly  impressed by the blue of the sea, but also by the gree of the citrsu trees, dotted by the fruits' yellow-orange.

Vico Equense is the frist town on the peninsula if you come by car or by train, overlooked by the highest mountain of Lattari Mountains, the Faito (1444 mt.), and carrying on we can find the little village of Seiano.

Once gone beyond the "Scutolo Cape", an wonderful sight is to the visitor, witch can admire the plane of Sorrento,  softly "subsided on the sea" and wrapped by the trasparent light blue sky.

Fristly he would be recived by the "maritime" Meta, so Piano, S. Agnello, until the most famous Sorrento, and at the end delightful  Massa Lubrense, the extreme point of the peninsula. A charming sight of Capri is enjoyable from here.

Today these places, regarded as  valuable touristic destinations since the last century, offer several chances per for the tourists witch could join in the same holiday naturalistic beauties, from the sea to the mountains, and culural excursion, finding out again these little historical tows,  litte "jewels" still unknown to many people.
