Perdifumo

The origin of the name seems to go up at the end of the century XI, when the inhabitants of the village, risen near the Convent of St. Arcangelo, moved to the valley, where a stream flows; it was therefore the geographical conformation to determine the new name of the village “pedes fluminis” or rather “at the foot of the river”.

Of notable interest the two museums that of the Farmer civilization and that Vichiano; among the architetural village we remember De Varga Palace, built at the end of 1500, and famous because for almost ten years it was the house of Gian Battista Vico, working as tutor by the Ventimiglia family.

Don’t miss to visit the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, of ancient origin, but rebuilt in following epoches, the Convent of St Maria of the Pity founded by the Franciscan monks, center of an ancient library, perhaps the same one where G.B. Vico studied, and the Guglielmini Palace with the fountain and the adjacent lavatoio and the well visible ruins of the monastery of St Arcangelo that was abanondoned in the XII century.

Near Perdifumo, in a high position, is the suggestive castle of Rocca Cilento.
