Palinuro

Palinuro is a beautiful village in the hearth of the of the Cilento National Park. The town is located at the foot of the promontory and, alike a scenic outlook, mirrors itself in the typically Palinuro blue sea. From the sandy beaches rises the imposing Capo Palinuro, as if protects this heavenly place jealously.

On the top of Capo Palinuro there are the wather-station and the white light house. The Lambro river, which debouches near the cove of Marinella, separates the promontory from the hill of Molpa, which is the seat of an ancient village and according to the legend, the home of the mermaids; on the hill you still can see the ruins of a Medieval Castle.

Palinuro: the bay of Arco Naturale (Natural Arc)To the north, the town of Palinuro slopes down to the Ficocella, which ideally is the continuation of the vast beach of Saline. The Archetiello and the Arco Naturale, magnificent sculptures moulded in the rock by the force of the wind, on the contrary face to the south, framing this tract of coast, which is also maked precious thanks to the Scoglio del Coniglio. You cannot miss to visit (by boat trips from the harbor) the  charming “Azzurra Cave” and the enchanting beach of “Buon Dormire”. The full of fish-sea, with its sounding - depth overgrowned with luxuriant vegetation, is an underwater-paradise. From the slits of the cliffs sprouts the “Primula Palinuri” a unique botanical species with delicate and yellow flowers; it blooms as from February in this area exclusively, there fore it was selected as the symbol of the Cilento National Park. Palinuro is a convenient starting-point in deed for trips in the neigh bouring localities, and offers the opportunity to go for a walk along the river side or to organize photographic tours. Moreover, on its main road called “ the corso”, you will find many nice articles of the typical “made in Italy” fashion.

San Severino di Centola: the ghost townSan Severino di Centola

At few miles from Palinuro, from the grey and pink rocks overhanging the valley of the Mingardo River, rises on ancient Medieval Village like magic: it’s San Severino di Centola. This village was left 35 years ago, when the in habitants removed to the plain. But in the Middle Age the village had a fundamental strategic significance, as testifird by the powerful castle. You will go into raptures at the beauty and mistery of that place.
