![]() AgropoliAgropoli is a coastal agricultural village, located at the beginning of Cilento National Park, 53 km (about 33 miles) south of Salerno. Its name derives from the Greek "acropolis", "high town", although it seems to have been founded by the Byzantines. As a matter of fact, the most interesting part of town is the "high town", the original medieval village which overlooks the sea and is perched high on the cliff. A great place to keep a look out, as the Byzantine castle suggests, although it didn't stop the Saracens eventual conquest.
