Acciaroli
Acciaroli, awarded the Blue Flag for its clean and crystalline sea, is
situated in the coastal part of the Cilento National Park. The village
stands on a small strip of land jutting out into the Tyrrhenian Sea. At the
end of this strip of land washed by the sea, you can see the little church
of Our Lady of the Annunciation and the three Saracen towers. The tiny
harbour of this picturesque little town, where also Enrnest Hemingway had a
short charming stay, has got clear and deep blue waters and it is able to
offer the guests every required service directly on the wharfs. Acciaroli is
a meeting place for many tourists, and is one of the least-touched villages
by modern development. It has kept its historic coastal village
characteristic with an economy based prevalently on fishing. Another
characteristic is the Mild Climate all year long that allows sunbathing from
April to October. The rare water-lily still opens on the golden beach and it
impregnates the air with its very intense scent.
With its charateristic and narrow streets of Arabian relish, Acciaroli can
be described as a beautiful fishing village with coloured houses, friendly
hospitability of a people rich of history and typical little shops.
Its elegant harbor is one of the few Cilento National Park ports which is
able to offer the guests every required service (water, electricity, etc...)
directly on the wharfs. There is also a small dockyard that assures
assistance for boats. Acciaroli is an hamlet of Pollica, which occupies
occupies a central position in the Cilento massif which is included in the
perimeter of the Cilento National Park. Pollica has a pleasant hilly
position and interesting architectural works. The Comune is composed of its
main town, Pollica and of five outlying districts, two of which, Acciaroli
and Pioppi, are on the coast and three of which, Cannicchio, Celso and Galdo
are in the hinterland. It extends over hilly and coastal territory,
featuring an unusual and evocative variety of scenery. Interesting buildings
not to be missed are the Palazzo dei Principi Capano (13th century) and the
Convento Francesco(1661).
The nearest railway station is in Vallo Scalo, on the line Naples – Salerno
- Reggio Calabria.
