August 2014 - Villa Olinda A was clean and so beautiful, just in front of Capri... It was also close to everything on the Amalfi Coast...

We had a nice welcome by Raffaele [the caretaker].

We had a great time there and would come back again...

Travel tips

  • The road down is very very narrow. We had our hire car upgraded to a larger car and often had to park a long way up the hill as it was too big to get up to the villa.
  • Turn right at the top of the hill for a faster route to the Amalfi coast which avoids the queues in Sorrento.

August 2013 - The villa is lovely, really spacious and well kitted out. The view from the terrace is spectacular - Capri and the ocean. The outside space generally is a really relaxing place to spend time and the pool is very welcome after a long day sightseeing!

The drive to the villa from the main road is tricky being very steep and extremely narrow in places; and the parking at the villa is not good as it is very difficult to turn the car around and there is definitely only room for one small car.

Summer in Italy were really good and we would definitely book with you again.

Travel tips

  • Park near the top of the steep hill to the main road and catch a bus into Sorrento rather than driving.
  • We went to Pompeii and Herculaneum by train - a really good service.
  • We took a boat trip from Marina della Lobra to Amalfi and Positano which was fantastic - book it in the tourist office in Massa Lubrense.

June 2013 - The home and pool were wonderful. We also appreciated the location in that we could walk to the ocean and it is a very short drive to Massa Lubrense, which is a splendid little Italian town. Though I am sure there are many tourists around, it was not a "touristy" town. It had the bakery, butcher, fish shop, produce stores... but no tourist stores. It was very nice.

June 2013 - We had a wonderful time at Villa Olinda.

We spent most of our time, when not off sightseeing, outdoors - either on the terrace or by the pool. The flowers were absolutely beautiful and the view was stunning - from early morning through to sunset! The kitchen is exceedingly well equipped and the pool is sparkling clean and provides a lovely refreshing break in between busy sightseeing.

Travel tips

  • You need a superbly confident driver as the access road to the villa and the turning points/reversing when leaving the villa require great skill - obviously the smaller the car the easier this is to achieve. It is well worth the effort though for the beauty, peace and quiet of the location!
  • There is a cheap and convenient car park in the village of Massa Lubrense and we found it so easy to park there for the day and get the bus to Sorrento (bus tickets can be bought from cafes and bars). From there you can get a train to Pompeii and Herculaneum and even Naples - very cheap and much more relaxing for the driver.
  • There is a fast ferry service from Sorrento to Naples which was a lovely boat trip in itself.
  • There is a good Tourist Information in Massa Lubrense, just past the church square on the left.
  • We do not recommend the local taxi company in Massa Lubrense - they charged us a whopping 23 euros just to get from a restaurant in the Marina back to Villa Olinda (5 mins maximum) yet it is only 30 euros all the way to Sorrento which is 3 or 4 times the distance!!! If you use them agree a price first.
  • Check bus times and beware of Sundays in Sorrento as the bus cannot stop at the usual place in the square as the main street becomes pedestrianised.
  • There is a fabulous fresh fishmonger down the right side turning (opposite the church and before the bus stop).

Unfortunately, Villa Olinda A can not be booked at this time.
